Title: Pets in PvP
Post by: Cerveza on December 08, 2009, 06:50:15 AM
This seemed like the right place for this....

What pets are recommended for PvP?

Super Dragons are alright, but keeps you on foot, they are slow and easily avoided.

I've been a Bake Kitsune fan. You could have two of them in the field and still ride an ethy.

I know Dread Mare is a hot item, but don't have one, won't be getting one.

What about a Hiryu? Not the lite version, but full bore, dismount and "physical resist lowering" one? Rideable and takes up 4 slots so you can still get on an ethy.

Mixture? Nitemare and Kitsune? Rune Beetle and Nitemare?

Thoughts?

Rune beetle and nightmare would probly be the combo to use... ride the mare, let the rune beetle sit somewhere till you needed him and call him in... Runebeetle dies pretty easily tho if you have a beetle slayer... :)

rune bettle has always been to slow in PvP for me to use them.  Hiyru is much better.

Hiryus, by far.

If you make a mage, a hiryu can be very devastating when it comes to combo'ing.

When I had one it would be something like this:

Curse
Explo
EB
-stun-
-dismount-
All kill
EB

Rarely if ever someone survived this. On a side note, if your pet dismounts someone, you are screwed with the dismount timer.

Greater dragons are slow and stuff but I find that they are awesome choke point holders. I usually set up three or four of those with red wither bombers and bag balls to hold spawn entrances.

Yeah, I tamed one yesterday that has pretty good numbers... I'll bond him up and give him a little training.

I run an Archer/Tamer so I'd think a good Paralyze bowshot, get off the hiryu, "all kill", would work fairly well.

There's no reason to use a dismount Hiryu.  You want magery pets.  Trust me on this.  You'll have a dismount bow in your hand.  No point.  The animal HAS to hit them, and they will run the second you dismount them, so magery pets are better.  Specially 2, cause it they chain spam para in a gank the person is almost definately dead. :)

See that makes great sense to me. I've always been a Kitsune fan... I think I'll train up my pair and see how they do in the field. That way I can stay riding my ethy...

I setup a "Get off ethy - select secondary skill (dismount)" macro already.

And actually... I need to bond up a regular Horse too.... or a Frenzied Ozzy ;)

Use a mare/kitsune combo so you have a trained up rideable horse that's instant mount after you get a dismount off and the timer is up.  Believe me on this. :)

Best Combo so far but really expensive that never failed me so far is DreadMare + Kitsune. Huge Magery DMG output + i am a mage with scribe ^^ :P

i like the two bonded vollems
but honestly the dismount tamers on a dread or cu own!

I play neither but witness the destruction often

Cu's aren't too bad, rideable and you can still ride an ethy...

My twin Vollems aren't too bad either, but really they are on the same level as NightMares except you can ride a Mare.

The advantage Vollems have is that anyone can control them.

I'm training up my Mare and Kitsune now. Both are decent tames... which reminds me. I have to put up a Lite version of my appraiser.

Template that I'm running is:

120 Archery
100 Tactics

110 Taming
110 Lore

105 Chiv
100 Anat
87 Healing

Thats with a +12 Taming ring to get to 110.

I'm seriously considering working up Hiding/Stealth to swap with Healing/Anatomy when I feel like stealthing. It'd make it a dual purpose char.

For a champ spawner setup like you said you wanted in the shoutbox the most effective spawner would be:

100 Necro (105 if you want strangle to never fail)
100 SS (120 is nicer, but 100 is fine)
110 Taming
110 Lore
120 Magery (can obv get away with 115)
120 Eval (same deal with 115)
 60 Med

This temp runs no resist, but you'll be using "protection" anyway. Bring lots of orange petals. This is a greater dragon tamer setup, and is never a wasted template at a spawn or harrower.

Thats an awesome spawner there. The reason for the Archery / Tamer is for a dismounter - all kill char. We either get raided, or we raid 99% of our spawns.

We're starting to get some more Stealth/Archers as well. Getting the enemy on foot is paramount.

Yea and Hoby did GREAT.  Although I stayed by him a lot...  I know where the bread is buttered.  :)

For hiding (100)/stealth (80) to be effective you'd also need ninjitsu (105 is no fail llama or ostard) for smoke bombs and animal form. Ninjitsu is also 4/6 casting which is nice.

You'd really have to skim some points to fit on the 280-285 points.

100 hiding
105 ninj
 80 stealth
100 arch (+20 hunter's headdress)
 90 tacts
100 taming (110 with jewel)
110 lore
105 chiv

Still would put you at 790. So no go.

You'd be too slow with just hiding/stealth. I tried out that temp and got frustrated trying to catch up to the group, and you can't even sneak up on an opponent or invise your dragon.

For archer/tamers, these are the pros/cons depending on the pets with your listed template:

Beetle/Mare - Beetles are devastating, but when one opponent gets dedicated to killing your beetle it becomes a 3 hit kill, and without veterinary it becomes a hindrance. I generally only pop mine out if we're facing mage only groups. Once an archer goes enemy of one/consecrate on it, it's time to stable it. Rocks mages and stealthers.

Greater Hiryu - Love the hiryu. If you go for a dismount and whiff, a lot of times peeps won't bother running away from the chicken because they don't fear the dismount from it. A lot of times it lands, and also has a brutal double strike. Hits like a truck. I leveled many a people with a heavy bow dismount, all kill, switch to a para blow, stand em up with the para shot, hiryu double strikes for the OooOooo. Again though, if you get one person going enemy of one/consecrate, it dies fast, and you'll find yourself not wanting to get off mount vs that. Peeps love to poison them but you have 4/6 chiv so that's not a problem with a cleanse.

Cu - Great pet at a spawn, heals itself, never have to cure it. Heals you also. Bites hard, lands a bleed on the stealthers that pop out. I get annoyed with my dog on my archer/tamer because when I land a dismount my dog will never catch up to my opponent. You generally dismount your opponent, switch to a para bow, mortal him, then jump on your ethy and pursue. Hopefully the dog chomp kept him on foot. When it does hit it's obv very nice, and when peeps have dread mares out they don't like it when a dog is chomping on their mare. Dogs eat mares. Dogs eat beetles. I also like the dog because if you're creative enough with your suit & jewels, you can slap 120 resist on the template. I hate getting para spammed/mana vamped so I still audible to this template sometimes.

Dread Mare (I know you said you'll never have one, but you never know) - Love it. You need to be able to cure it which your template can. It is devastating. Excellent disrupter vs mages! More times than not will hit that stealther with a delayed spell that reveals the stealther right after he used his smoke bomb. The mare is (unfortunately) the most effective pvp pet for your template imo.

You can obv combo your mare with another regular mare or a bake. I never bother running around with the optional 2 pets because they get worked by all the blues that are afraid to flag you but not your pet, but in a big fight I'll pet ball an additional pet in if needed.

That's all I got.

Cool, great info - thanks!
