Title: Cable Modem
Post by: Cerveza on February 02, 2011, 04:50:56 PM
What's a great cable modem to get?

I have a Motorola Surfboard 5101 now, and I want to get something different. I've been having problems with connection lately and it's probably the modem.

I'm using Charter... I think it's an 8 meg line.

I run a linksys cable modem - i've had no problems but I cant say as i have really paid attention on speed. I have it hocked to a gigabyte netgear router and gigabyte netgear 8 port switch.

There's a 5101U and a 5120.. I've heard/know/seen both are good.

I've seen some talk on a 6120.. but supposedly it still has issues with Charter and such in some areas and CSRs can't help you with it very well.. Just what I read. I think I gave you this link already but check out: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/charter

Personally I'd stick with the Motorola Surfboard line...they tend to work very solidly and speeds are good. The 6120 (which you can get just about anywhere, I know we carry it at RadioShack) is a nice modem. Only reason I'm not using it is because I have to use the special Comcast one because of the Digital Voice.
