Power Surge

Hi everyone!

Well, I was running my quester and a miner (don't know if that is relevent or not) and we had a power surge. All the electronics in the house shut off. After like 2 seconds, the clocks came back on. I restarted my computer to restart my quester, and when I open UO, this is the message I get.

Could not read version config file: vercfg.cfg
Your client may not be the most recent version.
You may be able to play the game with your current client.
Check http://www.uo.com/ for help on resolving patching issues.
Click OK to play the game or Cancel to abort.

The thing is, I can't click OK to continue. Anyone know what this is all about, or how to fix it?

Thanks!
SunTigress

There was mention of this on stratics boards for a SA user. They suggested deleting some file or another. A guildie of mine had the same error and had to reinstall UO.

What version are you running? I might be able to find the link if it was SA.

Is there anything in your patch directory? If there is delete it and try to patch again.

If the  vercfg.cfg file is 0kb you need to replace it. You have another computer with UO on it?

Well, I posted this once before, but it got eaten in cyberland because bighappy was posting at the same time!

Well, bighappy, you are right. the vercfg.cfg file was 0 kb. I had TT (my husband) get on his computer and send me the file. When I replaced mine with his, my UO works great. Don't know why a powersurge would whipe whippe destroy a file at random, but it did.

Yea. Dunno why. You would be the 2nd person had that problem in a week that I've seen. The other didn't have the luxury of just copying it over though. I think they are trying to make the UO patcher better or more like the SA one eventually. Prolly going to be some growing pains with it. At least you are up and running  :)
