Title: Question about. Verizon Family Plan for Smartphones??? Anyone..
Post by: Alpha on December 06, 2010, 09:56:38 AM
So.. a friend of mine just mentioned that there's apparently a promotional Family plan for Smartphone users that basically discounts you up to $30 a Month through Verizon. (The cost of the unlimited Data plan).   I've looked around a bit & find mention of this on several rumor websites, but nothing on Verizon.   Does anyone know what I'm talking about or have a link to real INFO?  (I just spent 8 minutes on hold with them only to get discounted lol)

Anyway.. Thx!

I'd like to upgrade to 2 smartphones for the wife & I, but an additional $60 for them just seems silly to me.  If it was only $30 though......

I haven't heard of anything like that in all my Verizon propaganda I get in the mail.  I'll let you know if I hear something contrary.

Nah..  I'd found some of those things, but didn't realize it was only offered to specific people & that I wasn't going to be able to find it on the Verizon site.  Ah well good to know.

seems like its a speacil plan for only Verizon customers already... as the offer is delivered via email.

But forget all that its to compete with sprints offer... $129.99 unlimited data 1500 mins family plan (2lines)... or  $69.99 unlimted data 450 mins solo line.

Which seems like a decent deal .. although i havent dealt with sprint since they refused to give me a new phone after 1000's of dollars spent and almost 12 years of sevice from the early early 90s-2003.

Sprint will almost always be the cheapest for anyone, especially when considering data. Not to mention they have the fastest speeds (WiMAX with sprint tops out at 128Mbps down/56Mbps up vs Verizon's new LTE topping out at 100Mbps down/50Mbps up and T-Mobile's measely HSPA+ 4G doing 56Mbps down/22Mbps up). Not that you will ever see any of those speeds. The only benefit is that apparently Verizon's LTE is easier to upgrade in the future and (after said upgrade) would be 1Gbps down/100Mbps up.

But back to the current topic:
Price Comparison (Unlimited Text, Smartphone Data, and 1400-1500 mins for 2 lines):
Sprint: $130 for unlimited text/data 1500mins
- texting included as part of plan
- fully unlimited data, additional 2*$10=$20 if both phones are 4G such as Evo or Epic
Verizon: $120+(2*$30)=$180 for unlimited text/data 1400mins
- texting included as part of plan
- fully unlimited data
AT&T: $90+$30+(2*$25)=$170 for unlimited text/ 2GB data 1400mins
- $30 family texting plan
- 2 x $25 2GB data plans on both phones

Can't get a better comparison than that!

TRUE !

I'm currently at a 700 min Family Share ZERO Smartphones for ~$90 /Month  After all the add on Tax etc...but since EVERYONE we know is Verizon that in network free calling is a large factor so it looks to basically Double the current bill to go with 2 Smartphones which = BLEH....   I KNOW there's no going back once I have one & especially once SHE does so I'm going to hold out since ~$180 / month seems a bit silly to me.  Ah well.. That's what Kindle's / Nano's & such are for !   Entertainment @ work lol....

Keep in mind, Sprint's Everything Data Plans (1500 and 3000min) include Any Mobile, Any Time which means that the only time you're EVER using your 1500 or 3000 minutes is when you call a LANDLINE phone between 7AM and 7PM. (So 1500 should be just about unlimited for anyone except the most business savvy among us)

If only Sprint worked in California.  My pet rock gets better reception here....  :)

Lol, don't get me started with AT&T.  I have my work phone that's AT&T and I use it side-by-side with my Verizon phone.  I can't believe how slow the AT&T phone is running 3G access.  Even my 14 year old associate says, "man, that's SLOW!"  From the mouths of babes.  AT&T is great if you are traveling the world though.  Verizon is *NOT* world-friendly.

if you have cricket or metropcs in your area thier worth looking at as well , in my area Metro pcs is unlimted phone/text/data $50 a month.  2 phones $90 a month. no contract month 2 month (downside is phones are not discounted and dont have as many phone options).

As far as world travel i have a UK phone that I swap sim cards out on where ever i go.   Not good for bizness maybe as number always changing but suits my needs.
