I got an old build, i should look at updating.
It runs fine but im looking to move this to plug into TV with wireless keyboard and add a new desktop PC.

Motherboard: MSI X99A KRAIT EDITION 2011-v3
Video: MSI GeForce GTX 970 GAMING 4G
Ram: G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 series (4 x 4GB) DDR4 3000
Cpu: Intel Core i7-5820K Haswell-E 6-Core 3.3GHz
Cpu cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
SSD: SAMSUNG 850 EVO SATA III 3-D Vertical
Power supply: EVGA 80 PLUS GOLD 750 W

I also ended up with a:
ASRock X99 Extreme4 LGA 2011-v3
waiting for rma to come back on the krait edition that would not boot

does anyone have recommendations for a mid-range priced build that will be as upto date as possible?

That still looks like a pretty nice build.  You should still be able to get some mileage out of it.  I was running with the same rig from 2011, so I was DUE!  ehhe

is it worth it to get a cpu with 40 pci express lanes and sli 2 video cards?

if so, what would be the best motherboard and video cards to do this with on an average budget to get most bang for buck?

Sadly, I'm ZERO help with Intel stuff.  I've been in the AMD bargain basement for years now.  Never had Intel money.  :)
