Wow!  Apparently he never fully recovered!  Granted his continued smoking probably didn't help.  Definitely a sad day.

That's not exactly rare. Usually, clots end up two places, because there are only two places they can go from the heart, your lungs or your brain

Did you see the episode? He was still steering the boat AFTER the clot passed through his heart... he was coughing up blood and finally called someone in to take over while he went and layed down.

Lived on Marlboros and Red Bull.

He was one tough SOB and he had a great family/crew. I'm sure he'll be missed both on the seas and on the show! He was one of my favorite captains (along with Sig Hansen)

Mike Rowe is one of my down to earth heroes and he told it like it was with Captain Phil Harris.  It made a tear come to my eye also. We need more of this type of hero and less of those in capital hill.
