General UO Chat / Exchange Rate Seige to Atlantic
« on: September 13, 2010, 10:30:31 AM »
I am thinking of playing Seige a little more and have a guy offering to sell me seige gold for atlantic gold.  Has anyone got a good feel for the exchange rate?  I am inclined to give 1/5, but he is asking 1/8.

Scripting Chat / Reliable Container Open Confirmation
« on: September 01, 2010, 02:23:51 PM »
I am wondering whether anyone has a reliable means in EUO to drop in a check to confirm whether an event macro 17 0 has been effective to open a container.

My thoughts:
1.   I could look for an item in the container and if my #FindCnt is greater than zero its open, but that won't work for containers that are empty.

2.   I was hoping that I might be able to reset one of the related values other than #LobjectID and then look for a change, but it appears that the container variables are not two way variables, so that is not a very promising venue.

3.  My last idea was to use option 1 first, and if it doesn't detect anything, switch the current container to the backpack by opening it before attempting the container again, and then checking against container ID.  This would be slower, but ought to be reliable.

Anyone have a better solution?

Off Topic / Google Voice
« on: September 01, 2010, 01:34:40 PM »
I set this up in the last two weeks and am still working to make it seamless with my office. Its VOIP like Skype, but its free and its integrated with GMail as long as you are calling withing the US and Canada, and very cheap overseas.

It also: Lets you set up your own portable number, voicemail, redirect calls to one or multiple other numbers, receive texts, and it transcribes voicemails.  It seems pretty cool.

Off Topic / Interruption to Cable Internet Knocks Printer Off my Network
« on: August 27, 2010, 08:29:08 AM »
I am again enjoying a recurring problem that I used to have with Comcast cable internet in Chicago.  Every time the cable internet service would experience an interruption, it would knock my printer off of the network so that it would show up as offline.  This problem went away when I gave Comcast the big middle finger and switched to UVerse.  So for a couple of years I didn't see the issue.  Now that I am in St Louis the only internet service available for my office is Comcast cable.  Last night the cable service interrupted and my I am back to offline printer blues.

The only way I could solve this previously was to uninstall and reinstall the printer.  When I called Comcast back in the day they always told me that it can't be their problem because I have internet service.  I just got the same answer from Charter and I hung up on the tech two minutes into his explanation of why cable internet service couldn't be the cause of that problem because I can get onto the internet and he is 99% sure it has nothing to do with cable internet...

Anyone got any ideas why this happens?

As an aside, it amazes me that cable company internet customer service is just as lousy with a different company.

Off Topic / Business Internet
« on: July 30, 2010, 02:41:12 PM »
I need a static IP and decent internet for my new office and wonder what people think about the offer I have from Charter Cable in St. Louis.  16Mdown/2MUp for 109.99 a month. Or 25/3 for 199 a month.

Both seem a bit pricey.  Is there a better option?

It is my understanding that I need the static IP so that the computer can be remotely accessed to use crappy software that has to reside on it for one of my insurance companies.  Is there a better way to remote into the computer?

General UO Chat / Multi House Account
« on: July 29, 2010, 09:30:19 AM »
I am looking at picking up a multi-house account and I have some questions that I wonder if folks can answer for me:

1. Refreshing the houses:  It is my understanding that the houses will need to be refreshed by an owner or co-owner.  Does anyone remember what the time period is for this?

2. Customizing a house:
Can you customize a house on a multihouse account without condemning the other houses? I know you can't place a house without condemning them.

Off Topic / Internet Telephony
« on: July 27, 2010, 09:17:25 AM »
I am going to have two small office locations starting in about a week and I am looking into ways to manage the phone system.

I looked at Skype and it doesn't seem to have a lot of functionality and I don't like the way their software installed itself on my computer, stuck itself into the registry and the startup without giving me options and doesn't have an un-install feature.

I started a GoogleVoice account which seems kinda cool.  It allows me to have a number that I could choose from a bunch of options and that I can redirect to any other number(s).  It also has a bunch of voicemail features.  Unfortunately they won't let you put more than one number into the account so I can't have two local numbers for my two locations.

I may just set up a local number for my new location that I re-direct into the google voice number so that I can manage them both together.

Anyone else played with this before?

Off Topic / Cascade of System Error 5
« on: July 27, 2010, 07:32:15 AM »
When I open up a second EUO, I get a cascade of error 5 messages. I think it may have something to do with a power outage that happened over the weekend during a big storm. Not sure what is wrong.  Permissions all appear to be in order.

UO Reference Information / Enhancing Order
« on: July 22, 2010, 09:09:02 AM »
I have been working on sorting out the order in which different metals add elemental damage. It appears that they each do it in a specific order. I have tested it enough that I am pretty comfortable that this is how it works.  Please let me know if you see anything different:

Copper: 20 Energy and then 10 Poison
Agapite: 30 Cold and then 20 Energy
Valorite: 20 Cold , 20 Energy , 10 Fire , 10 Poison
Verite:  20 Energy then 40 Poison

The single category enhance metals are as follows:

Bronze: 40 Fire
Shadow: 20 Cold

Of course instead of testing it myself I could have just found this information on Stratics, but where is the fun in that.

http://vboards.stratics.com/showthread.php?t=62865&highlight=enhance

Basra on stratics mentions a rumor that there have sometimes been exceptions to the standard order (Cold, Energy, Fire, Poison) and states that EA has denied that this is the case.  I can verify that it does (or at least has) happen.  I imbued a 90% dagger some time ago with copper and it became 100% poison.

UO Reference Information / Imbue Training Through Unravelling
« on: July 21, 2010, 09:42:01 AM »
I have been training up a new imbuer.... because I can.

I figured this time I would test the limits of how far you can advance the skill through unravelling.  I have unravelled about 50K oak boards and it appears to be capping out at 77.8 skill on a 120 capped toon.  Has anyone gotten higher unravelling weapons made of oak?  I am doing bows atm.

I am going to let it go through a few 1000 more oak and then switch to ash and see if that does anything. Then yew...

15,000 boards in I think its safe to say that Ash does nothing to advance you past 77.8 Skill. Now to try Yew....

2,000 boards into Yew and I was able to add another half point to 78.3.  Skill then did not move for almost 10,000 boards, then it advanced to 78.6 from 10,000 to 15,000 yew and stopped again. I ran another 10,000 yew and it didn'tmove. Cap for yew appears to be 78.6.

I will try bloodwood next. What we have so far is

Wood      Max Gain
Oak      77.8
Ash      No gain above Oak
Yew     78.6

Scripting Chat / Finditem *, #FindCnt and ItemIgnore
« on: July 20, 2010, 08:34:38 AM »
I built a general purpose container to container script that I use a lot for manipulating a large amount of objects between containers.  It uses the line Finditem * C_ , %SourceContainer to find the next item to move.  I built in a variable that you can assign to scan the items for a property, allowing you to pull only one type of item out of a bag full of stuff.  If you leave this input blank, it just moves everything from one container to another, but its nice if you want to pull all of the copper hammers out of a mixed bag of hammers for example.

The issue I am seeing is that #FindCnt never seems to get to zero when it is ignoring things, so if the conditional is supposed to be met by having moved all of the items that meet the property requirement it ends up in a loop. I wonder if there is a way around this. Is there a value for #FindCnt when the only items it finds are being ignored?  Here is loop I built that moves things.

Code: [Select]
Repeat
   {
   Move_Item_Loop:
   Finditem * C_ , %SourceBag
   If %NecessaryProperty <> N/A
      {
      Event Property #FindID
      If %NecessaryProperty notin #Property
         {
         IgnoreItem #FindID
         GoTo Move_Item_Loop
         }
      }
   set %jstart #jIndex + 1
   exevent drag #FindID
   wait 15
   exevent dropc %TargetBag
   Wait 15
   Set %NumberMoved %NumberMoved + 1
   Finditem * C_ , %SourceBag
   set %jend #jIndex
   scanjournal #jindex
   for %ji %jstart %jend
       {
       scanJournal %ji
       if That_Container_Cannot_Hold_More_Items in #Journal
          Set %TargetContainerFull Yes
       }
   event exmsg #charid 3 4 TEST MESSAGE Find Count is #FindCnt
   Wait 5
   }
Until #FindCnt < 1 || %TargetContainerFull = Yes || %NumberMoved = %NumberToMove

What I wonder is whether this might better be accomplished by doing just one Finditem and then working through that list looking at each item in sequence, but I am unsure of the syntax for a routine like that.

Hmm, going to look at something I saw in one of Cerv or C2's scripts...

Misc. Scripts / Rune Book Rune Insertion
« on: July 18, 2010, 07:59:03 AM »
I use a lot of scripts that incorporate travel options dependant on rune position in a rune book.  I recently moved houses and realized that I needed to reinsert a new home rune into the first position in 30ish rune books.  I was not excited to do that by hand, so I wrote the attached script to do it.

The name is more impressive than the current script, but this is a rough version that I can expand and make considerably more flexible in future. For now, it appears to dependably put a rune into a book and then cycle through the runes in the book to put the new rune in first position, maintaining the other runes in their relative positions.  If you need to use it, please let me know how it works for you.

This is a first draft without many failsafe's, so please follow the instructions.

UO Reference Information / Mining Yeild Factors
« on: July 17, 2010, 12:11:46 PM »
I have been compiling some statistics on what the yeild is for various mining combinations and thought I would share:

Human Miner Not Prospecting: 83.4% Iron Ore, 16.6% Colored Ore. This is a result of hitting iron veins 50% of the time, and pulling in colored ore 33.3% of the time on colored veins.  Colored Ore spread per random occurrence variables available here: http://uo.stratics.com/content/skills/mining.php

Human Miner Prospecting: 66.6% Iron Ore, 33.3% Colored Ore.  This is the result of human 1/3 yeild on colored veins and converting all iron only veins to dull copper veins and promoting all colored veins aside from valorite one color.

Elf Miner Not Prospecting: 75% Iron Ore, 25% Colored Ore: This is the result of hitting iron ore veins 50% of the time, and the Elf bonus which bumps the yeild on colored veins to 50%.

Elf Miner Prospecting: 50% Iron Ore, 50% Colored Ore: This is the result of converting iron ore veins to dull copper, promoting all but valorite veins one colore, and the Elf bonus which bumps the yeild on colored veins to 50%

Conclusion:

Most of the mining I have been doing in UO has been on human miners that were not prospecting.  I have no trouble getting iron, but often run short on colored ingots.  By converting all of my miners to elves and prospecting 100% of the time I can more than triple my colored ingot yeild.

This is a tailor trainer that I put together six months or so ago and forgot to post up.  There are actually two scripts you need to run side by side.  The Cutter Upper can be run in a separate window, there are no global variables. I recommend starting the cutter first, but it probably doesn't matter what order you start the scripts.  Just don't wait too long after starting the main script to start the cutter.

Script has been tested on weaver bought cloth, cut from bolts into whatever the square piles are.  Try not to feed it different colored stuff and don't leave reward cloth in your secure as it doesn't have settings to differentiate cloth types.

I have not run this in a while. Please let me know if you run into any issues.

*Update 8/23/2010*
I updated the item progression to correct gump clicks on oil cloth thrown off by the addition of some gargoyle items.

*Update 12/05/2014*
I fixed a mistake where I had hard-coded the ID for my secure in the max weight, and increased the wait times from one twentieth of a second to half a second. I think most people never hit max weight, so it was a rare issue, but probably a show stopper. I am looking at replacing the cutter with a routine to use a recycle bag. Will post that up if I decide to put that in.
