First peek at my post-operation

Went in to get my sutures removed and replace my plaster post-op splint with a fiberglass cast.  Suture removal sucked, and blood still bleeds.

I was kinda shocked at the length of the incision, and note the immobilizing pins protruding from me wrist.  Those come out in a month.  One side of incision is numb, but I feel the other side.

The  new cast sucks!  Very uncomfortable.  All muscle definition is all gone too, so it's going to be a long road back during physical therapy.

You shoulda seen the arm before the operation!  Between the broken bone and the other bone being dislocated, my arm was probably 6 inches shorter!

heh, thanks, I do my best at all levels.

Galeazzi Fracture for the curious.  I'll post pics of the first xray when I get a copy, but it looked nastier that the  wiki one because I had lots of fragments.

I'm  curious about the strength of the bone though.  It almost felt as if it was still wiggling when I was out of the cast for my xrays yesterday.  No more pushups I suppose.

Lets hope your not left handed eh. Doesn't look comfy at all hope ya got some good pain meds. good thing chicks digs scars huh. BTW I guess I missed the story but hope you have a fast recovery,

Whoa, that sucks dude.  Looks like my brother's arm did back in 2011 after a minivan took him out.   Don't get too bummed, you'll probably eventually get most of that feeling back and it won't take you long to rebuild atrophied muscle.  Avoid NSAIDs and make sure you're getting plenty of minerals in your diet, this doc explains why:

There are some over-the-counter supplements you might also look into taking to help accelerate recovery by stimulating osteoblast activity and neuron repair: icariin and forskolin.

Also, if you're experiencing neuralgia and plan to take any supplements, make sure they don't contain B-alanine (common ingredient in body building supplements, can worsen nerve pain).

Hey, that's some useful information there so thanks for that!  I'm traditionally a super-fast healer, but at nearly 46 I'm sure that's not going to continue.  I just wish this damn cast wasn't so tight.  I'm looking forward to some atrophy to make room for my gimpy arm.  lol

Anyhow, I'm enjoying the better bones read!

I only posted in the shoutbox since I didn't have any good pics to share, so I never really officially shared the tale.  

Just riding my mountain bike minding my own business when a slippery asphalt turn came up on me.  Bike went down and I flew over the handlebars.  Stuff we do to be physically fit; better go back to hiking.  lol

Fortunately I'm terminally right handed, so life is just annoying and not impossible.
