Title: WINDOW 10
Post by: The Ghost on July 23, 2015, 03:03:00 PM
Been having that  icon get window 10 on my task bar for a while now.  I know for some tester that Win 10  is nice operating system.  The main and almost only concern, those UO and Easy UO will still work.

I'm looking for your guy two cent.   It free right now and don't want to make a misstake by upgrading or missing free stuff if I don't.

I'll let you know how it goes.  My lone 8.1 system sits idle because it sucks so much.  :)

It's not so bad once you get use to it. I have been running it for a little over a year now.

I say the same things about this annoying piece of metal in my arm now.  I'll get used to it; but I'll never like it.  I gave it a whirl, but I've never used anything more annoying than Windows 8.1  That includes Gnome 3.x.  Terrible, terrible, horrible very bad piece of K-rap.  Frankly, I'm not going to hold my breath for v10.  I'll probably ride Windows 7 into the dust.  I'll give it a whirl on my spare 8.1 computer, but I'm not beyond the idea of dismantling the computer and sending its parts to every direction land to keep it from re-forming into an undead horror.

As far as i can tell about windows 10 :
* Upgrade option were not good. So i went through a clean installation
* Installing Visual Studio 2015 Enterprise tooked me 9 hours
* System overall is smooth, looks like a mix of android, windows 8 and windows 7. Atleast they removed some crap stuff from windows 8\8.1
* Stealth Client runs smooth
* Ultima Online runs smooth

Did you use the free win10 from Microsoft or purchase one. I have the free one because of having win 8 but have not used it to upgrade. I was waiting to see what other users thought first

That why I'm asking the question,   I need to know if I can install a dual boot.   Win 7 and Win 10,  just encase I hate win 10 I can go back

I couldn't dual-boot with Win8.1.  I had to install on a separate drive and use the BIOS to direct the boot process.  No doubt Win10 will be the same.

I did not have to reinstall anything.  I used their updater and all my programs were still there. I made  a backup in case, but did not need it.

I read that asus computers (not sure if they strictly mean asus laptops or desktops with asus components) and SSDs are common amongst people who experience black screen of death.

Crome, what did you mean the update options were no good?

I wouldn't want to do a fresh install because I have programs on my computer that I can't get again (for example, vis. studio 2012 professional) due to installing them while I was a student.  I don't have access any longer, and am too poor to buy it right now.

This is your penance for not playing Rebirth more.  I installed Windows 10 on my "spare" computer today so we'll see.  Gets an initial thumbs up.  The SUO Launcher actually works too!

I heard by some employees in my company, that the upgrade takes a longer while (on one notebook 7 hours)
I personal never would Upgrade always clean install because of certain reasons.
Does an Upgrade clean the registry? Wrong Cached Data wich it still use even when you uninstalled a program?
How does Windows grant compability? I mean do they just set CompabilityMode on all applications?
Before i start to find out what it does and doesnt and due my clean structure on Files\Backups, a clean installation takes me 30 Minutes and no issues. ;)

The first computer I did was a relatively new install of Win 8.1.  That took about 30 minutes and no hitches.  The second computer I'm attempting is a Win 7 Home version.  This computer is also relatively new and has taken much longer, but that's because it really isn't all that powerful.  It's been grinding for about an hour now.  If this does OK, then I'll try it out on my more "main" laptop that's Win 7 Professional.  After that, I'll keep going and try and brake one of my other computers.  Yes, I have alot.

Fixed the flashing screen issue at 4:21am woooot! Just needed to run safe mode and download catalyst suite for windows 10. It was fun since I had to figure out how to run safe mode without being able to see. Basically moved my mouse to the area I thought the  start up button was and hit shift while clicking restart computer, needless to say, it took a few tries lol

You can enable F8:
bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy

Or disable F8:
bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy standard

Not that I care to get into the F8 menu that often, they disabled it to make it boot faster by default.
