I remember one time while playing a dwarven fighter with an intel of i swear -7 i decided to fight one. Yeah, more came, and lo and behold my int went down another -7 and i got the great idea to continue to fight. Not a good situation. But funny to watch everyone else try to save me.

Don't worry, I'm going somewhere with this thread, right now I'm just trying to find out who *hasn't* heard of them... ;)
Never mind, it looks like most people know what these things are, so all is well in Nerdville.

Boy, tell me about it. I was with a group of people who I played AD&D with for 12 years running every Saturday. Kept me out of trouble during the teen to early adult years. Actually we played all kinds of games like Hearts/Spades, Traveler, Thermonuclear War, AD&D, Apple II games, Illuminati, Risk, Talisman (and many other Games Workshop games, Call of Cthulhu, paintball, water balloon fights, etc, etc, etc. Wonderful group of friends that I really miss.
There was an overly sadistic time when I taught the guys how to make darts with thread and pins, and we'd shoot those damn things at one another. Fun as hell until you got hit in the neck! lol
-
ok you got me.. I have never heard of it ;/ or if I have I don't remember hearing about it.
-
The blobs I remember are from a game I played when I was younger called Dungeons of the Unforgiven.
A few times a year I get into playing the rougelikes Angband/Zangband/TOME which I bet have them in it LOL...
edit: lol
Checked TOME's monster file.....
N:286:Gelatinous cube
D:It is a strange, vast gelatinous structure that assumes cubic proportions
D:as it lines all four walls of the corridors it patrols. Through its
D:transparent jelly structure you can see treasures it has engulfed, and a
D:few corpses as well.
And the beast itself!!

Ya, all good. I was just curious who remembered a classic but forgotten D&D classic monster. The description for the game "Neverwinter Nights" is classic:
Just when you thought that unsightly pasta stains had no champion, and you were comfortable in a world where mayonnaise didn't fight back, comes a creature made entirely of the stuff that bursts out of mashed caterpillars. These are the rock stars of downtrodden gravy stains and greasy splotches everywhere: a large, intelligent cube of glop that can chase you down and digest you before you've accepted you're being beaten up by an overachieving dessert.

Garth is trapped inside one at the end of the Wayne's World video game.
Yeah, I beat it.
