So, easy UO and Script UO have interchangable scripts right?
-
SUO right now can only write scripts. itwon't play them. but yes it is interchangeable.
-
in Due time it will be the new standard
EUO SUO :)
-
I have a complete EUO parser written and working somewhat, so we'll be completely compatible with EUO eventually. We'll also have additional functionality like SQL interfacing, file I/O, additional commands like "debug", etc.
We won't be forcing all those scripters out there to learn a completely different language. What a silly concept.
-
took me long enough to learn this one...and i'm still learning :)
-
Smart guys here! ???

The real difference that I have found so far between sites is a more friendly more active community. And frankly that means a world to someone working hard to learn. I have not waited more than 1 hour before a question was answered or a post responded to on SUO. On EUO it may take days if ever. I am still waiting on some responses from EUO that I posted months ago.

I gave up on scripting through several rudish comments/ replies over at the easy uo site. It was most unfortunate.
After a few years, I found winuo (When the entire group was there) and began trying to write again and found such helpful comments. No one crapped on me or implied I was an idiot.
Now between here, scriptuo, and winuo I continue to increase my scripting abilities and put out some pretty decent and super stable stuff.
You are right about having a community that supports you. I would be script illiterate if none of these sites existed in addition to easy uo. I would just download and leech from EUO.

Hey, we are not all bad overthere. I use to answer questions all the time, but RL got in the way. I am slowing down for the summer on my job and I hope to beable to help more. Since my promation on Alexandria, I really have had time to script anymore. Been busy trying to make heads or tales out of the C#.
The question I have is has anyone here looked at OpenEUO yet? From the general chat from Cheffe, it will replace EUO and then Not sure how things will stand here. I have tried to wrap my brain around LUA but I am even more loss in that than I am on C#. Just wondering. Oh and HI all!!! Long time no type :)

For me, I've spent so much time in EUO that I just love being able to pound out a quick script without all the additional pomp and circumstance of an "official" scripting language. I have 100s of scripts I've written over the years and really I just don't find it necessary to re-invent the wheel again when I have scripts that work well enough. I've never been a programming snob or elitist, so if I find a method that works well enough, I tend to not deviate much from it. I still think Cheffe really misses the point about why EasyUO is so popular. Simple and elegant. It's the basics to get the job done, without overwhelming the layperson. With EUO, "Anyone can script!" And don't get me started on the "Open" part of it. Sheesh. Frankly, he should be reforming the core of EUO to use OpenEUO. What better demonstration is there? Plus, what better way to allow for a transition? Need to run EUO? Do it! Need to call a Lua sub? Do it! Abandon current user base? Nope, no Apple Inc. here!
And congratulations on your promotion at Lexia. Putting aside all the "ChangeMe" crap and accounts being deleted, I've enjoyed my time there and find it's a refreshing change from OSI. I'll always recommend it to someone in need of a change from OSI. Heck, I just got my nephew playing there. Perhaps one day the user base will pick up. Forcing people to change their names doesn't help retention of people, however. For that, I have a little snippet that'll help the leaders there at Lexia:
finditem BUG C_ , #BUTT
if #FINDCNT > 0
{
set #LTARGETID #FINDID ; target the bug in the butt
set #LTARGETKIND 1
event macro 15 50 ; Flamestrike
target 5s
event macro 22 0 ; last target
}
