Is here anyone who scripts on Delphi for Stealth?
« on: November 01, 2013, 02:06:23 AM »

looking for someone, to ask about many things.
I'm very very noob at programming but made a few scripts on Delphi.

Maybe someone wants to share some expirience on that!

Currently having very bad issues with my Internet connection, so i can't post any script this far, but hoping that today-tommorow all the issues would be solved!

Anyways - hello there everybody! hoping for warm company to talk about!

P.S. By the way - i couldn't find the tutorial for using Delphi with Stealth, is it just my problem of findingEngine in my brain or it doesn't exist here at all?

Nope. Not a single person!

Just going to leave this here though...

Object Pascal refers to a branch of object-oriented derivatives of Pascal, mostly known as the primary programming language of Embarcadero Delphi.

I'm going to say it's not allowed because of the chance for virus in the executable.  We don't have time as admins to check every submission for viruses.  Hope that makes sense.

Serious scripters can easily compile the code to create a working executable.

The only thing I think should be allowed are .exe and .dll files that are directly related to the core of the scripting platform.

There are online virus scanners such as:
https://www.virustotal.com/

For Malware:
http://virusscan.jotti.org/en/scanresult/bacef5b3ce5d6604bd0bce890c75b740e3b16f2d

And checksum utilities:
http://onlinemd5.com/

There's many of these, and if you have better suggestions, please post them.

P.S.  The executable posted by Drabadan showed a virus by Comodo.....

Oh yeah i forgot that people could implement bad software components into their projects...

But this also could be a false report.

Well its a bit Sad, that we are forced to take such precautions because there could be a few reasons sharing the compiled exe :
- No view on the code wanted
- No requirements of VS\Delphi or whatever IDE + required runtimes
- No experience required

on the other side if someone would be really such bad person he could :
- Gain Control over your Data
- Gain Control over your Computer
- Manipulate your Computer
- Destroy Data

Yeh, it's very annoying for sure.  There are those that may not be aware that they might infect someone by a trojan or some other virus by sharing an executable on their computer.  But as you point out there are others that explicitly implement nefarious code in their "script" to do all kinds of bad things.

That's kinda why I want to look into updating ScriptUO to allow for people to load a .cs file into the editor, and have it compile and run.  At least there you can see if there is any evil code embedded.

With .net, one could use .net reflector to look at the assembly, but it's pretty easy to hide, compress or obfuscate the code to get around that.

From my viewpoint, I'd be pissed if someone got a virus by running items acquired at this site.

No worries.  We're kinda developing new rules as we understand how to share work in Stealth.  I'd love to be able to allow for executables, but that just opens up a whole bad can of worms.  Perhaps we'll figure out a better way to share work in Stealth without running the risk of bricking your computer.  ;)
