Title: Archeage
Post by: camotbik on February 06, 2014, 12:48:50 AM
I haven't been playing much of online games after ultima online, but boy, this game beats the **** out of everything. It's the same sandbox style as ultima. You can catch fish, mine, lumber, get treasures, do tons of quests, bring packs from one town to another, farm, do sieges and sea battles. Well enough talking, lets see it in action

Ship battle looked alright, everything else looked like some EQ quality graphics meets a mixture of Aion, WoW, Tera, GunZ gameplay and UI and doesn't do very well with many people in the same area. You should try EVE if you're looking for an actual sandbox game :>

Anyone in this game as well?

I played for about a week and a half, but even after they fixed the totally F'd up queue situation, I started getting kicked every 20-30 minutes.  >_<

I'ma check it out again later, but I've decided I'm going to let it get worked out for a while 1st.

I was really excited about this game until I found out your can't invert the Y-axis.  That's a deal breaker for me, so I uninstalled it.  :(

Yeah, it took me a bit to get used to the controls, as I dont really play many 1st person games on pc anyway, 'cept Skyrim, but that was over a year ago..

Really though, the controls are quite messed by default. Having to rightclick+drag to change camera  angle O_o"

Hm maybe i should invent an inverted mouse...

Pretty much my first and favorite foray into games is flight sims.  These nearly all require you to invert the mouse to keep the motion straight in your brain.  Since I used to fly airplanes for realz, Y-axis invert is a total deal killer.

... well, there is this, too: http://superuser.com/a/406865/132671 (http://superuser.com/a/406865/132671) (Polynomial's Mouse Inverter).

I think i use inverted, can't remember...

If i use the mouse forward, i want to look to the floor.
If i use the mouse backward, i want to look up to the sky.

The way i would tilt my neck :D

I've thought about a few of those things, but unfortunately the inverted mouse is only for looking up and down.  Otherwise if I'm mousing around the screen, I want a normal mouse.  I may try it, but so far nothing has been all that helpful.  Thanks, Mel.

I can totally understand that C:
Although I do believe you can hotkey the inversion on and off. But again, totally understand not wanting the hassle.

on-topic, though: The one feature I find incredibly awesome, is the ability to load your own custom art for crests on armor/sails/house deco, etc. The process doesnt seem too uber difficult either, and everything is available in-game (opposed to only p2p).

It seems like a silly feature that should be easy to add to the program, but it seems like most non-american games don't allow for the feature.  Yeesh.

Anyhow, yes I really like some of the features of the game and I wish I could play it.  Since Trion is involved, that makes me even more disappointed since I've been such a Rift-dork for a while now.

Still no invert-Y, so I'm not even trying.  The graphics seem pretty nice when I was bumbling about looking down when I should have been looking up.  Seem like an interesting overall game too.
