Come one...
Come all...
Step inside the UO world of Vice & Virtue.
This is a custom shard with an old school playing style that has the added features of all the expansions running thru High Seas.
There is much to do, in ways of champs and quests and for those that enjoy PVM the dungeons are open and the hoards await.
For those that prefer a little PVP action, killers and thieves await those brave enough to enter the gates leading to Felucca.
For those that dream of a life outside of the warrior class, there is still much to achieve for the creative mind.
From the blacksmith's forge to the baker's ovens. From the tinker's workshop to the tailor's loom.
Those trained in a trade skill shall never go hungry and the miners and lumberjacks will remain busy as bees gathering the custom resources.
There is also much to see as many of the Cities have been reconstructed to coincide with the storyline.
All in all this shard was designed by UO veterans that simply love the game.
Okay maybe some of us are a little obsessed, considering we've been playing this game since the days of old or what some call the 90's.
So we created something that we wanted to play.
A world where everyone can advance and prosper thru hard work.
While we do reward donations, this is by no means a pay to play shard.
We want people to have fun and every member of the community can achieve both fame and fortune if they're willing to grind for it.

For inquiring minds we do have a Skillcap of 700 and a Statcap of 300.
One account per IP and up to three houses per account, the two extra houses come thru vet rewards or you can rent a place if you're not ready for a forever home.
We offer Imbuing and Mysticism and a variety of Combat Magery books and oh so much much more.

So please join us on this first step of our journey.
And no matter what path you may take.
No matter what hardships that may befall you.
No matter what enemies that may grieve you.
Above all else, please, try to always remember to have fun.

Out of curiosity, what does the custom exe and dlls do?  Is there a modification to the UO.exe or some of the resources?  Just curious.

Nevermind, I see what it does.

New Haven is very nicely decorated.  Neat little shard you've got going on.  :)

Thank you.  Our deco team is working on Customizing all cities.

Ya, it looks really good!  At first I logged in without using the patched client and walked about 5 tiles and got stuck.  From there I figured you had some custom stuff going on!

It makes my brain hurt how much you guys have decorated the cities.  Your deco team really has a great flair for it.  Having done this kind of thing before, I can appreciate how much work went into this given the quality/usefulness of the tools I had when I did this.  It really is a pain in the a$$.  Kudos.

I've played for a couple days and it really is very nice.  I'd recommend this shard to anyone wanting to give UO a fresh start.  I was thinking about following Lexia when they migrate/reset, but after what I see at VnV, I think I'll continue with you guys.

No complaints so far, especially for the starting player - it's very easy to keep up your momentum with easy resurrection and new player teleporting.  Even the more obscure adventure places seem to have player support so that frustration remains at a minimum.  It's annoying to die, but not at all frustrating.  You can tell that whoever is doing the player support tweaks knows the full UO map very well.

So far so good!

So far I've made 4 separate characters.  I started with a Paladin just so I could get enough gold to finance the basics.  I managed to farm enough LRC items to start a pure mage once I found a good spell channeling mage weapon.  From there I farmed a few harder places to pad my LRC cache.  Once I got another set of LRC, I started my tamer.  Getting spellweaving on this shard is a PITA because the Exodus dungeon is a horror show to get the required minons to complete the SW quest. The dungeon is completely stuffed with bad guys.  I might have to give up on SW.

I'm presently finishing my fisherman so I can farm my lovely MIBs.  The FaF works great here once you reach 75.0.  I made a quicky script to fish off the shore until the FaF can take over.

Oh, I also made a stealth/mage just so I can stealth around and get some need runes since most spawns are pretty heavy.  The Ice dungeon is another place where it's pretty much insanity 24/7.

I just really started tonight. I made a tamer but with no LRC, I started a miner/LJ to make some money. I might make a pally too since they are more fun than mining by hand lol.

I have a few pieces of LRC items if you'd like.  Having just gotten my fisherman pulling up chests, I have a better source now.  Been busy tweaking my MIB autofarmer so that it'll work on VnV.  It must be totally broken on OSI if VnV functions similar.

From what I see, I think KalInEx's sosmaster seems to be broken as well.  I had to completely tweak my MIB OCR function so that it'll read the coords.  It's very slow, but it works.

If you want to toss me an SOS - I can check out the sos master script's ability to read one. Only takes a few minutes that way. Probably takes longer to train up fishing than to figure out how the OCR functions.

Heritage (OSI Clone) which is run by the guy (Dan) running ServUO had a lot of issues as well. He fixed them on Heritage but not sure if he moved those fixes to the ServUO package or just Heritage.

Lemme know when you have a chance to look at it Gad.  I can meet up with you on VnV.  Not sure if you'll need to install the client or not.

Hey guys, long time no talk! :)

Started some chars on VnV yesterday and today, playing around and having fun. Very nice! Been a little obsessed with trying to figure out the best way to quick-farm some gold to start, it's been a long time since any ol' piece of LRC and every $1k felt like a major accomplishment LOL.

Same offer to you 12X, need anything LRC related, just ping me.  I have the chat monitor running, so I'll catch it.

Also, I got the MIB autofarmer sorted out and working on VnV, so if you need your fishing fix, then it works pretty well attended.  I'll post it in the Elite section once I get it a bit more polished.

Nice to see you again, btw!  I needed a bit of a winter UO diversion myself.

It is kinda fun to see prices not so insane for a change.

Funny how UO always seems to re-attract us old timers :D I've missed everyone, hope to see you guys floating around in game!

I know what you mean about prices, I sold a single vet reward on Atl for over 400 mil to help fund a new Samp suit the last time I played there and people were tripping over each other to buy it. Kind of shocking really since I have literally dozens of unclaimed rewards yet I always have viewed myself as gold-poor.

I appreciate the LRC offer, I MAY take you up on it but first I want to suffer for a while to see how long it takes me ;)

There seems to be quite a bit going on on VnV that I'll eventually need to figure out - where is fel? How to get in Twisted Wield? What are all of these fencer/ranger/sword/etc spell scrolls? Where are spawning locked trunks now? Etc etc. Fun times!

Fel you can access anytime after your young status expires.  As for Twisted Weld, I had to get Tidus to point out how to get into heartwood for the Dreadhorn quest.  I failed and finally had to ask for help.  I'm not sure about the additional scrolls, but there are some explanations on the VnV forum.  Being old skool, I'm doing it how I know at this point.

I'd like to get spell weaving going, but man I have no idea how I'm going to kill the necessary exodus minons and overseers.  Let me know if you figure that one out.

Anyhow, if you see Kankles, Threelip, Elfira or Slinkypoo, say "HI"

Oh crap, of course - it's been so long since I've been young it didn't even occur to me.

Ok, so there IS a Heartwood then? LOL excellent, at least that's a start! I'm sure I'll need the hint.

So the hint can only best be from a quotation found in Star Trek - The Wrath of Khan where Spock talks of Khan thusly:

Quote from: Spock
He is intelligent, but not experienced. His pattern indicates 2 dimensional thinking.

Nice to wee you  guy.

For the SW quest,  just go to Honor gate,   their  two  monster to kill.     Will be easier if a few guy go.  Cast EV, Pain strike,   Disco Help too.

Guest I will need to load the shard and see what happening.

Can Razor start the game?

Oh yeh, I've done it before on NORMAL shards.  Unfortunately, the first overseer is a paragon at this point.  I've tried and died many times on him.  For the other spawn in the Exodus dungeon, there is a needed piece of equipment I didn't have - a change of underwear.  You walk into the dungeon only to get swarmed by 30 creatures nearly at once.  Probably the smartest use of your YOUNG status is to finish the SW quest before it expires.

I'll give it a try again once my tamer can bond something that can tank a bit.  My tamer is really the one that needs the SW credentials.

Razor can certainly start the game, but you really do need to install the custom client just because of the massive amount of artwork changes.  I use the SUO Launcher myself - works fine.

Basically every city is different from OSI layouts.
Most cities have a fortress at the hub of the city - so without the new art files - you won't walk far.

It is really interesting with all the town changes. I like it, but can't imagine the hours of work involved to change all that.

3 Unique features here that make playing easier:
-Double-click on gold in your backpack to send it to the bank
-There is a quest with Rufus in New Haven for travel assistance - do it!
-There is another way to open your bank box from anywhere which is from a quest I think - though I haven't found it. Keep a supply of water in your bank - and food if you don't have magery on that character - then as you get hungry/thirsty you can open your bank and get some food and drink without traveling back to town. When you get too worn down your stats suffer.

Heritage (OSI Clone) which is run by the guy (Dan) running ServUO had a lot of issues as well. He fixed them on Heritage but not sure if he moved those fixes to the ServUO package or just Heritage.

From what I have been playing around with here at home with a ServUO server - a few fixes make it into the TrueUO github that is publicly accessible, but even those haven't made it into the ServUO master in a year or more.

I fired up 4 servers: pub57, pub57.1 (a couple fixes there, but the content is too old for my goals), servuo-master and trueuo. At the moment I have my version of servuo-master running the best so far. Pub57 had a few things that were functional which are broken in servuo-master. I have made it through making all of TerMur and Stygian Abyss dungeon fully functional and have a checklist for the steps documented to get to that point.

TerMur/SA do not work to decorate or even have complete spawn in servuo-master (entrance quest doesn't function even), while trueuo has the entrance quest functional, but for claiming to be OSI compliant - they changed the quest questions and answers, but the world populating has all the same errors of servuo-master. So from my standpoint, I do not think much from Heritage makes it back to servuo-master in the past 1-2 years.

What version of Windows are you using, TG?  Almost seems like once you run the UOVnV.exe file it is preventing you from anything else.  Curious if you need to run that with administrative access or also have a VPN running?  For me, all I did was run that and it started to download an whole patched client into a "UO VnV" directory that I put in the same location as the main downloader.  From your picture, you seem to be missing some artwork for the window which makes me question your Windows version or your present version of .NET you have installed.

Hopefully Tidus might have some additional recommendations for you.

P.S. I attached what my screen looks like including the directory that contains the client information deployed.  It's just off my desktop.

The VnV folder has a subfolder that has the game files in it. When linking razor to it, make sure to chose the UO VNV sub folder inside the main one.

Yes, and that sub-folder is only placed there after you have any kind of download from the VnV patch server.  If you don't see that folder, then you haven't started the patch process, or you have specifically said you wanted the information placed somewhere else.  By default, the patched client is downloaded to the same location where you run the patch application.

@Gad: I stuck a couple MIBs in my cat mailbox that you should be able to access.  Go directly NW from where the Yew moongate once was until you find a small clearing with a single sandstone custom house.  It's actually a bit more north past the larger clearing.
Title: Re: UO Vice and Virtue

The house is private.
There is also a security bug with mailboxes on servuo - unless the devs for uovnv fixed it where others can't access mailboxes - regardless the settings.

You might check and see if all the .NET support is added in your Windows Apps section of your settings.    I think it's in Settings/Apps/Optional Features/More Windows Features.  A box will pop up with a few .NET selections for 3.5 and 4.8

Also try and update manually from MS:

I finally got my SW going.  The spawn magically was smaller for some reason.  Not sure of the mechanics of that.  It's still pretty crazy though.  Took a while to solo the minions and overseers because I had dropped meditation so mana recharged very slowly and I had to work to isolate the creatures from the surrounding spawn so I wouldn't get ganked.  Now I just need to fill my SW spellbook.

Whatever you are using is blocking Https.  All files are stored on a server that requires SSL.  Could but a firewall, could be anti-virus, could be you have settings in your browser disabling it, could be VPN.

It's not.  (scriptuo.com that is)  It's not a big deal though.  VnV seems to be located at a different address.  Tidus might have it at the same location that serves scriptuo.com, but the SSL of the scriptuo forum is a separate thing.

I posted over at VnV, but I guess there was a corruption in the save file.  Tidus popped in to explain it.  Going back to about 11pm last night.  I lost my MIBs I fished up today but that's not a big deal since they'll get fished up again since I'm still tweaking my Autofarmer.

So it's been about 1 month since I started.  So far I've made 5 different characters:
1) General fighter - quick start for gold - will turn into a Sampire
2) Fisherman/Scribe - because fishing and Tidus stopped supplying runebooks. :)
3) Stealth tamer - because?  Unsure, I like lurking...
4) Peace tamer - duh
5) Miner/lumberjacker/tinker (just started)

It's been fun and you can tell that everything I found annoying with vanilla UO had probably annoyed the staff as well.  Since you can withdraw from your bank at nearly any transaction, you don't have to carry gold with your when you buy vender things like scrolls and regs.  Also the portable moongate is really a handy thing.  Finally, I really like how they made skill mods useful on magic items by not counting the value toward your own skill cap.  So it's easy to make your character more flexible by adding a few different jewelry items.

I just started doing the taming BODs as well.  I keep getting distracted with other little projects on the server.  There really is a bunch to do over and above the normal UO fare.  Probably the best thing you can say is that the staff is clearly active with the normal shard day-to-day.
