Site News / Time for new Elites? Let it be so.
« on: April 14, 2015, 08:29:44 AM »
So the revelation was that our last Elites were added back in 2011.  Funny how time flies.  I suppose we were left a bit gunshy during that time.  In any event, we're always looking for good individuals to add to the ranks of the Elite, so please help me welcome the following people:

Crisis
Lately with the guides and thrust into scripting, Crisis has done it with gusto.  His guides are first rate and it's good to see that he's taken the plunge with the scripting thing.  He's great when it comes selfless contributions to noobs and Elites alike.

Trixta
Though he's been off and on with us, when he's on he's a welcome breath of positive energy to the site.  He's always helpful when it comes to just about everything.  I've played with him in-game in UO and Rift, so I know his positivity is boundless.

So this continues our tact away from all that is douchy.  So if you've been able to check your ego at the door, help your fellow player and scripter alike, and can do it while possibility cracking up the Elite core, then you might be next!

Welcome guys!

SUO Launcher / SUO Launcher - Shard Linking
« on: March 11, 2015, 11:20:58 AM »
For shard owners:

Add this link to anywhere on your website.  You must edit the contents of the meta data to specify the information for your specific site.

Code: [Select]
<a href="http://www.scriptuo.com/index.php?action=downloads;cat=6" title="Drag this link into the SUO Launcher window!">SUO Launcher
  <meta name="Shardname" content="Your_shard_name">
    <meta name="ShardAddress" content="1.2.3.4">
    <meta name="ShardPort" content="2593">
    <meta name="ShardImageURL" content="http://www.youraddresshere.com/images">
    <meta name="ShardWebsiteURL" content="http://www.youraddresshere.com">
</a>

I recently added the ShardWebsiteURL meta tag because the shard web url might be different than the ShardImageURL

You should leave the link re-direction the same because that will point the user to a way to download the latest version of the Launcher.exe file.

Edit: 3/25/2015
For version 19 RC2, I've added a way to just paste this link into the program.  If you provide a way for the user to "cut" the above link to their clipboard, I've provided a method to context-right-click the information and it will be handled exactly as if it had been dragged/dropped.

Here's the little bit of HTML that creates and edit box:

Code: [Select]
<textarea rows="1" cols="20">
<a href="http://www.scriptuo.com/index.php?action=downloads;cat=6" title="Drag this link into the SUO Launcher window!">SUO Launcher
  <meta name="Shardname" content="Your Shard Name">
    <meta name="ShardAddress" content="1.2.3.4">
    <meta name="ShardPort" content="2593">
    <meta name="ShardImageURL" content="http://www.scriptuo.com">
<meta name="ShardWebsiteURL" content="http://www.scriptuo.com">
</a>
</textarea>

SUO Launcher / SUO Launcher - Q/A
« on: March 06, 2015, 08:07:42 AM »

Questions and Answers

Question: What is this thing anyhow?

Answer:
After the loss of shard launching sites like UOGateway and ConnectUO, I wanted to create an easy way for freeshard owners to allow people to connect to their freeshards.  Now a freeshard owner can provide a drag/drop link into SUO Launcher to immediately allow access into their shard without worrying about what program and settings are required.

Question: What else does SUO Launcher do?

Answer:
Other features include:
  • Manage all freeshards and OSI shard login information
  • Modifies client to allow for light all the time
  • Keeps a database of clients encountered, so when a UO patch occurs, you'll have the previous client version available

Question: My virus software hates this

Answer:
Yes, I know.  Norton SONAR, AVG, etc all see this as a threat.  It's not, but I can't change how it functions to provide the features you require.  You'll need to add "Launcher.exe" to your whitelisted programs in whatever virus program you use.

Question: Do I need to run this in Administrator mode

Answer:
Most likely yes.  You'll either need to be running on an Admin account, or explicitly run this program with Administrator rights.

Question: I cannot drag a link to SUO Launcher?

Answer:
In Windows, if a programs aren't running at the same permissions level, you cannot drag/drop between them.  If you had to run the Launcher.exe at admin rights, then you will probably need to be sure you're running your browser as admin as well.

Question: The program doesn't automatically find my client

Answer:
In the immortal words of Jerry Maguire, "Help me help you!".  I look for keys in your registry that direct the system to the EA/OSI installations.  I know many of them and have built them into the program.  However, there are many eras of UO and some of those had registry keys that have changed over time.  If the program doesn't find your client, then I would need you to use "regedit.exe" to locate the registry keys for UO from within your registry.  They generally start out in your LocalMachine/Software/EA Games/.....  Forward this information to me and I'll verify and include in a later version of the SUO Launcher.

Question: What's up with the ads?

Answer:
Deal with it.

SUO Launcher / SUO Launcher
« on: March 02, 2015, 10:23:10 AM »
So I've been bringing all the little things together.  With client patching and injection for an executable, I have the start of a freeshard launcher.  It's very basic at this point, but will launch a patched, unencrypted client to any address/port entered.

What I want to do to keep from stepping on the toes of the other launch sites is to allow them to drag/drop information into the application to "add" their site to the others contained in the program.  From there, they can launch using this application.

As it stands now, the client patches for multiclient nag dialog and always light.  I want to add the skip intro also as soon as I find that offset.

Anyhow, just fiddling at this point.

R/C Quadcopters / 2nd build - 260mm quad - a.k.a "The Black Mamba"
« on: February 25, 2015, 08:43:33 PM »
Parts for the build of "The Black Mamba"

My Controller

This build is totally opposite of the first build "Wiggles".  With Wiggles, everything is small, slow, heavy, etc.  With this one, everything is larger, lighter, faster, more aggressive.  From the larger 3-leaf fans at a greater attack angle, the much more powerful EMAX motors and the lighter frame, this thing has the potential to scream!

And it does scream.  I had absolutely no problems with the initial hover and the loss of the fan securing nuts due to reversed clocking.  Each motor on this frame is tilted *slightly* inward and this seems to give a bit of extra stability.  I'll see if I can take a picture to show this tilt as it's not apparent from the website or my own top-shot pictures.

Flying this thing is kinda like controlling a thunderstorm.  I need to do the power/weight computation, but I'm sure it's more than 4x which makes it excessively zippy.  The fans are also kinda rigid, so I did manage to cut myself while I was dialing in the hover.  I need to rename it "Ginsu".  lol.  In any event, it's a handful to fly.  I need to spend much more time with the simulator in practice.  I also need to change the color of the blades until I get better at flying.  It's totally easy to loose your perspective and flip the controls around in your head.  At least with different color props on front and back, I'll know which way is forward at a greater distance.  All loaded with the battery, this quad weighs 18oz or 510grams.

Next and last build for a while is a little bitty kit I ordered before this one, but it took forever to get here.  It's finally arrived and I'll try and put it together this weekend.

R/C Quadcopters / My first quad build - 230mm FPV racer - a.k.a. "Wiggles"
« on: February 24, 2015, 12:09:59 PM »
    Parts for the build of "Wiggles"

    My transmitter:
    FlySky Upgraded 2.4G 9CH RC Helicopter Transmitter FS-TH9XB Mode 2 with backlight mod

    Originally I had 2 leaf props on this thing.  5030-size props are almost too large for this 230mm frame, but they just clear the structure of the quad, so they seem to work fine.  The motors on this are on the small side for this quad since I'm also going to be adding an FPV system to this that includes:

    Boscam FPV 5.8G 200mW AV Wireless Transmitter TS351
    DAL 700TVL FPV HD 1/4'' CMOS Camera Module Wide Angle
    Boscam FPV 5.8G 8CH 200mW AV Wireless Receiver RC305

    Setup using the OpenPilot is an absolute breeze.  The flight controller was able to manage a perfect hover after the system had been calibrated and paired with my transmitter.  This is a big, heavy build, so actually racing this thing is going to be challenging.  Since the motors are so underpowered, this quad kinda handles like a pig with wings, but it's fun to play around with and gain some flight skill.  You can download the setup software for OpenPilot HERE

    After my CW/CCW discovery, everything else was incredibly easy to setup.  One just needs basic soldering skills and common sense.

    I'll post more as I play with actually flying it.

    My next build is a true racer.  It's a 260mm quad with MUCH larger motors and props.[/list]

    R/C Quadcopters / CW vs. CCW motors. WTF?
    « on: January 27, 2015, 10:52:50 AM »
    This was one of the first things that bit me regarding quadcopters.  I made the mistake of thinking that CW (clockwise) and CCW (counter-clockwise) meant the direction of rotation.  This was an incorrect assumption.

    I mounted my motors using this method, only to find that no matter how tight my props were installed, I would spin the securing nut off and lose a propeller.

    ----- SO ------

    CW - This is the direction THE THREADING of the securing nut is when you are tightening the nut.  i.e. Tightens in the CW direction
    CCW - This is the direction THE THREADING of the securing nut is when you are tightening the nut.  i.e. Tightens in the CCW direction

    ----- WHY? -----

    To prevent exactly what happening to me.  The actual motors are the same except for the reversed threading.  Since these are servo motors, you can easily change the direction of rotation by swapping any 2 of the drive wires (3 wires).  So you want the propeller to spin in the OPPOSITE direction of the threading so that the nuts will self-tighten.  Without this, you'll just keep spinning nuts off.

    So for my rig, I have things totally backwards.  All my props will eventually spin off since none will self-tighten.  The remedy is to swap the CW and CCW motors and reverse the direction of the spin.

    Hope this helps the quad noobs out there like me.  More face-palms yet come.

    (runs back out in the backyard to try and find the missing securing nut.....)

    Stealth archive / New idea for a EasyUO-friendly Stealth API
    « on: October 23, 2014, 11:34:55 AM »
    So I've been slowing working through the .NET Stealth wrapper and I had a bit of an idea that I though would be interesting.

    Probably one of the biggest advantages of EasyUO is the simplicity of the language and how easy it is to implement quick scripts using the limited syntax.  So as I write the wrapper, I'm actually going to write 2 separate wrappers.  One for the full implementation of the Stealth API, and another one that has been simplified to allow for a general 1:1 syntax translation that will feel very comfortable to EasyUO users.  I've already written converters that translate EasyUO to Lua for the UI stuff, so it should be pretty easy to convert the existing menus being converted to .NET forms.

    A step next might be for me to dust off the code I originally wrote for ScriptUO that emulates the UI look/feel from Delphi/EasyUO.  I kinda want to stay with generic .NET forms to make my life easier.

    My intentions are not to write a 1:1 emulator, but to make the programming transition from EasyUO to .NET as easy as possible.

    Anyhow, thoughts?
