Title: NAS recommendations
Post by: NObama on May 21, 2016, 02:57:51 AM
Greetings!

I'm back from deployment and ready to pull the trigger on some NAS to serve up all my video without having to swap between endless harddrives.  A friend recommended Seagate Blackarmor.  Can anyone offer recommendations and tips on what to buy and how to set it up.  This is what I want:

- Centralized repository for about 6TB of audio/video
- Easy setup
- Low maintenance
- Reliability

Thanks in advance!

EDIT:  Also, vendor recommendations are welcome.  So far, I'm just looking on Amazon.

I've been browsing reddit /datahoarding while researching a plex set up for my new house

Lots of good info for setting up your own NAS build and choosing drives, but be warned the people on that subreddit have deep pockets and aren't afraid to drop thousands on their setups and redundancy systems

I have 3 of the ZyXEL NAS drives (6TB, 8TB and 8TB) described in this thread:

They are a bit old, but are cheap and easy to configure.  I will be sad when I can no longer buy them.

WD blacks are great for NAS set ups but i think they are too prricey ive been running a plex server off of 4 3TB Seagate 5200 HDs with an SSD cash drive for  awhile and have had no problems
