Hello,
I play UO, give me free stuff. Okay, just kidding. Only said it to break the Ice and show that I did bother to read the rules.
So I played UO way back in 1998 through about 2002, also played a bit around 2005. My primary character is and was named Tamer. I know completely original. I am currently learning how to play my sampire style character named Odysseus Yu.
So I was sitting around my house looking at my kids buried in their phones and with frustration began thinking about the last time I remember being completely absorbed into a screen. It hasn't really happened for me since UO, I got into guild wars a bit but it did not have the community feel that ultima did so I kept on looking, I also am not a fan of FPS which seems to be 90% of what everyone is playing on consoles.
I then had a realization, I am old... And what draws me to the video game environment is People. That is what is lacking for my kids, they watch videos and chat with 2 or 3 people and that is it. So I came to the conclusion that my kids need a screen that is more social than social media. I googled Ultima, and was surprised that it is still big, and now it is time, I am currently building Training Chars for them so that I can show them how fun a game really is when you have the right group of people all playing together.
I realised that my accounts while old, dont have much on them in the way of resources, then I remembered EasyUO, looked it up, read a bunch, and ultimately decide that my kids will like the enhanced client better, even though Im not sold yet. When I did play I used many scripts from the easyUO site, I was never a great scripter but I was ok at tweaking. (the scripts not drugs) When I had issues I shared them and if I found a work around I shared them as well.
So I started reading about Lua, and decided I better take another crack at using the Enhanced Client and find something I can play around with to get me started. Enter ScriptUO. I read many comments from stratics and other sites and decided I better get in here and figure out what I am doing.
I hope to at least be a helpful member in troubleshooting and hopefully eventually do my own scripts from scratch. It has been 15 years but I am back, and bringing my evil genius offspring with me. I hope that UO and scripting may bring me many more years of fun with my kids.
