OK, I tried this on Test Center tonight. It was a huge disappointment. With no resist I was frozen on the initial fear until I was killed. With only heal pots there is no way to survive that. I didn't even get off the discord. I turned the corner saew the slasher, got froze, got eaten.

What can I be missing?

Has anyone actually used this tempalte on the slasher?

I have found that when weapon skill, tactics and anatomy stick around 110 the best way to raise it is to kill Highland Bouras. Of course that is best done while at the PC. Also, they do hit hard....

Well, the theory was that we would kill Slasher for a month or so, until we all got a Lavelier. That was for bragging rights, don't really want one myself. BTW, zero so far and 86 Slashers down. Then we would do the Stygian Dragon to get Fallen Mystic Spellbooks. We only did six SDs while bored and disgruntled with the Slasher and have received 3 spellbooks already. Then we would move on to Medusa for the Slither. That's the prize for me.

I use a cyclone which has a shorter range. But, it has a significant speed advantage with minimal damage loss; the damage per second is much higher that with the Soul Glaive which has maximum range. For example, I do approximately 77 damage per 1.2 seconds with cyclone and 110 damage per 2.6 seconds with the soul glaive. I could probably do a swoop and strike with the soul glaive and stay out of range. Perhaps that would help in my protection.

I would really love to find the spot that you do not get pulled from. Manwinc, I could definitely benefit from that. Care to show?

Haven't tried blocking him....but he does draw you to him now. Was getting on roof with Mystic/mage and throwing RCs. He jumps or he pulls.

Months ago I was told by a guy in-game that he could solo the SoV. I have also seen several YouTube videos indicating the same. So, I set out to create a character to do this. I am on a dead shard with very few people available but I like to fight tough monsters.

I use a Chiv/Disco/Thrower with some very good armor and a ton of pots. With EEO, Agility and Strength potions, and consecrate weapon I average 77 points of damage per 1.2 seconds. My template is Disco 120, Musci 120, Throwing 120, Anatomy 102.5, Chivalry 92.5, Tactics 100, Resist 120. Str 141, Health 143, Dex 134, Stam 156, Int 11, Mana 41. Stamina regen 7, Mana regen 11, Hit regen 2. HCI 40, DCI 34, DI 60.

I have successfully soloed the SoV about ten times. I have killed the SoV dozens of times with one other person (Mystic/mage). Here are my questions:

How long does it take to solo the SoV?
According to the guy in-game...who is never available to let me see him do it....he takes 20 minutes to kill the SoV and never dies. According to the YouTube video it takes 16 minutes....the video is edited for time, never shows the SoV freezing the character, and the character never dies. I'm gonna have to call bullshit on both claims. It takes me 80 minutes to kill the SoV because every death takes time to rez and reset. I could probably kill the SoV myself in 40 minutes if I never died. So, not only do these guys never die, they do twice the damage I do.

How can I avoid dying to the SOV?
I have only died when frozen with fear. This occurrs often in the first half of the SoVs life. In the second half he slows down a lot. Until the recent patch you could drink an invisibility potion while frozen with fear. However, you were often interupted. I do not know if the new patch allows for it, but I could use turkey feathers or invis items, but those are both very limited. So, how do I survive being frozen? The other guy who goes with me has healing and often powers through being attacked while frozen, but I have to have music and discord on my template.

How can I improve my performance?
I can't drop music and disco, can I?
I can't drop resist. I died all the time without it.
Could I replace Chiv with Healing? Lower damage, but power through the freezing.

Yeppers.....it seems that the range is roughly a 7by7 tile box (so it could be 6x6 or 8x8). Basically, when you get the message that you sense something hidden nearby, you have found one edge. Move in three spaces and turn left or right so that you can move at least 8 or 9 spaces. Then move back slowly towards the last location. Stop when you get the message again. Move another three spaces. You should be within one tile of the hidden box.

Use the skill Detect Hidden and click the ground next to you. You never get a fail message, but you may fail to make the box appear and you are told that there is nothing hidden. Keep using the skill and clicking a new tile around you. The box will eventually appear and could be exactly where you clicked the first time. This is why it is best to find the center of the 'sensed' area before detecting hidden. This assumes a flat surface. If the box is on the stairs, and you are not, you may never detect it. So, if you are right next to stairs and fail three times, try again after moving onto the first step, etc.

I originally played on a busy shard and was heavily involved in factions. I buit a faction thief, on the template given me. The template included remove trap. I moved shards and no longer am involved in factions. So, I never used my thief. I also never used the remove trap skill except when training. I actually bought pinks and ate the last 32.0 skill points, because it is the most boring skill to raise!!!!! I stoned off the skill.

Ok, scene set.

With the new Exodus dungeon a group of us have been getting keys and killing Exodus every evening. I thought it would be fun to actually use my thief to get the keys. I was right. I highly recommend it. I found that your spidey senses tingle when you are within a six or eight (never really measured) tile space containing the box. So I find the middle, detect hidden, there is the box.

My original (and current method) is pick lock, back away, cast telekinisis on box , cast invis, cast telekenisis on box, cast invis, hide, loot box. There are always two traps on the chests; poison and dart. The poison from the poison trap often cannot be cured with potion, petal, or arch cure. I have protection on as their are many spell casters that will disrupt you. Also, I find that the immediate hide after the invis does two things.
1. You are hidden, not invised (duh), so there is no invis timer. What a surprise the first time, cause I forgot.
2. Casters will still cast on you after you are invised and after you are hidden. Although the graphics show you are hit, and sometimes you take damage, you are not revealed.

BTW, I get two to three times the keys that my cohorts get.

Sometimes the box  is located on stairs and you cannot see the box to cast telekinisis. So, how to open? I went to my soul stones and put remove trap back on. I tried remove trap on approximately 20 chests. I successfully removed the trap once. I often fail with the message that I was lucky and did not set the trap off. But, 19 of 20 times I eventually set off the trap.

So, Is remove trap ever a good skill to use?

Well I have learned a few things over the years............one is that it doesn't hurt to admit your ignorance and ask for forgiveness/help.

Woot!

Trailmyx.............My older brother gave me and my friends new knicknames all the time. I mean, like daily. He was currently calling me Pebbles and decided to start calling me Pooh Bear. Tony lauged and said, "What next Pooh Bulls?" It was an immediate hit. I modified the spelling a bit.

Great to be aboard. Promise not to jerk that knee anymore.

Hello all,

My handle is Puebles. A nickname accidentally given to me by a dear departed friend 34 years ago: I miss you Tony.

I begain playing UO about 14 years ago. I played for about 3 years and loved the game. However, my children were young and I really had to make a choice. A very tough one indeed.

After a break of nearly 7 years I came back to UO four years ago, interesting changes. I think they are mostly for the good. Best part is I get to tell "when I first played...." stories to my guildmates. They play well with my "When I was your age...." stories. Oh, and bad jokes....some very bad.

You might have guessed that I am no spring chicken. I will celebrate my 50th this month. I am married and have three children, all in college. I am not sure about this generation of theirs...not one of my kids plays any kind of video/computer games. Kids these days!

I do have a tendancy to make knee-jerk reactions; like bypassing the READ ME FIRST posts and ICQing Cerveza asking why I cannot download?....ah...sorry :-X. The good thing is that I am capable of learning and I do some programming on the side. Not enough to claim to be a programmer. But, I am interested in learning how to script. I have altered scripts, usually to update for use with gargoyles.

I have been using scripts for the past four years from that other site. Some have been useful. But, from what I read, this is the site I need to be using.

So, I hope that Cerveza can forgive my indiscretion...and the rest will accept me.

BTW, How cool is Trailmyx's GIF....I watch that often. I guess at my advanced age it is the little things.....
