Questions about Lumberjacking...
« on: April 02, 2011, 02:21:49 PM »

1) How big are the resource grids?  I've seen mention of 8x8 & 4x4 but don't know which is correct?

2) If my goal is gathering bark fragments does being in Fel does being an Elf ? (don't know if fragments are considered a special drop)

3) Suggested Scripts that Anyone's used?

4) I haven't really used Tile Scanning before, but am I correct in assuming that the whole point is that you can determine if there are available resources on that tile before actually wasting time Lumberjacking the tree?

Thx in advance.

1. resource grids are 8 x 8.

2. Being an elf only improves your chances at getting  a upgraded resource, never seen anything on special resources.

3. UOMaddog has his auto chopper posted here on our scriptuo.

4. Tile scanning lets you know what tiles that are actually valid tiles for resource collection only.

Ahh... thanks for the info..  So based off of that the best way to do some Serious Lumberjacking would be to Mark runes that potentially allow you to access a full 4 resource grids correct?    Hmmmm.....  Can anyone quantify the yield differences between using a blue beetle & not using one?  I imagine the less time I spend recalling back & forth to the bank & instead sit there and swing my axe would produce more.  Heck even using 4/6 chiv instead of 2/6 Magery would add up I bet.  Well if there's anything else that people can suggest feel free!

So Far. it seems that MW's LJ'er script is working like a champ, but possible ideas for added yield

- 4/6 chiv
- Blue Beetle
- Added player durability (though I'm not sure what he's got included so far.. ALWAYS room for more though lol)
-  Hmm...  Anyone considered dropping stuff to the NEW boat types & putting it in Commodity deeds?  Alot safer than a BANK / House I'd think.

Anyway.. Thx again.

you know what would be a killer script, is if it would be possible to recall to an area, and path find to different tree's and chop them into boards and store them into a beetle until it was full then recall to a bank/home to store all the wood..  I guess its just a dream of mine...

I have something just like this that I started last year but never finished it. The only difference was it did not recall it started at my house and did a tile scan and started chopping wood near my house and would move away as it finished each trea and randomly find another and also as my backpack got full it would make boards and place them in a beetle. As the beetle got full it would move back to the house and store them in the house. It also opened the front doors to find the chest in the house. It actually looked pretty un scripted because each ending and starting point was almost random :). I need to get back to that one and finish it. I started on this one because of my time on Seige.

Umm I believe I done a script like this when ML first came out .. its primary mission was to look for rare woods... It would chop every tree insight (never chopping the same tree again) marking runebooks full of special trees.  Had an option to either drop wood on floor or mark temp location recall to drop off and recall back.   I ended up with about 7runebooks of frostwood spots.. and for a while I was a frostwood king I still have 1/2mill frostwood boards from that time.  Of course that was back when you could Hide and chop so monster defense was alot simpler.

Am I the only one that took this as sarcasm considering one of the best in the game is in Elite?

Just curious ;)

Alpha - I think "beetlejacking" is absolutely the way to go specifically for that reason, you aren't wasting as much time recalling. Even if you could recall with 500 boards it would still take you three or four recalls to equal the same drop as one beetle (plus your pack). At roughly 5 or 6 seconds per trip to your drop you are looking at 20-30 more seconds per 2000 boards if you don't use a beetle. Not a big deal for one trip but certainly adds up over the course of hours and days!

LOL 12X I didnt even notice ...  But Ive always meant to make my script work with 5 pack horses now that would be some serious jacking.

Meh, When you factor time to convert to boards, drag and drop into pack, open the pack, drag and drop the stacks in the pack, and time spent moving to newer tree's, I'd bet you that you wind up about the same, if you had your recaller optimized for maximum efficiency.

I think that recall mining/lumberjacking is as quick as any method of packy mining/lumberjacking.

As MW said, the time you spend converting, drag/drop, rounding up, unloading - just isn't worth it. And then there's always the "risk factor". Recall into a brigand spawn... packy's/beetle gets targetted... or a reaper who poisons one. Even if you do get away your packy will probably die.

With a simple recall script you can get away every time.

You could always lumberjack one of the islands with no spawn or other area with no spawn move from tree to tree .. repeat until all packies full... I reckon you would would get more wood ... although not sure worth it with the increased risk of paging that would entail.

But... if you are setup right...

One bank book with randomized banking.
Multiple Ore/Lumberjack rune books.

And now I have Buc's on my "lemme kill some trammies" list ;)
