I think I'm gonna become a "Moat Person"

Do a quick search on Moat People... I think this kinda sums it up.

"I think we should call this next generation the Moat People. They don't feel that they can control the bigger forces and trends in this world. Their government is entirely beyond influence. Employers are capricious and irrational. So they want to get a little plot of land, an apartment and a group of like-minded friends, and they want to build a moat around this haven."

I think we switched from "Generation ME" to "Generation Why Bother". At this point I'm not even sure that my President was born in America. I see executives retire days before their banks are taken over because they have billion dollar losses, but the execs leave with multi million dollar packages. Employers don't give a crap about workers at all... layoffs, price hikes, gouging, crime... every day it's worse.

I feel small, like the little fish. I'm sure I have no voice in what happens, anywhere. I see whistle blowers prosecuted while the corrupt bosses (who should be tried, sometimes for MURDER) go unscathed. I see 7 arrests because a picture of a gold medalist hittin' the bong is leaked out while the CEO of a company puts tainted products out to the public causing PEOPLE TO DIE - yet he's free.

I donno if I'm becoming a Moat Person, or building my wall. Either way I suppose it's fundamentally the same thing, I just really like Pink Floyd's music.

I think the trick is for all us "Pink Floyd fans" to come together and build a moat with a little bit larger diameter.

Of course we have to be careful because even talking about such things could get us labeled as domestic terrorists.

I suppose it would be the governments next move... police state. I mean with us digging our moats, and isolating ourselves from them digging into our lives... they would have to come up with new ways to dig.

If we prove we can exist isolated, the only recourse "they" have is to create new ways to intrude.

*btw I know he's US born. It was to make a point. And unless there's some type of threat, I don't see how any action can be taken against anyone. We do still have that Constitution thing, right?

Sarcasm. I'm frustrated as well. In all seriousness though, even things like the purchase of MRE's by the case nowadays are rumored to actually get people on "watch" lists.

You ever hear of John Titor? He's some kook that managed to get himself a lot of attention by showing up on some forums and blogs claiming to be a time traveler visiting from the future. He goes on to make a ton of "predictions" and make explanations for scientific phenomenon without giving enough information to be able to qualify him as nuts. Now he's developed a pretty large following and even I find myself referring to people on a day to day basis as "titorists".

He makes an interesting claim however regarding the state of national security and the direction we are heading related to the willingness of Americans to gradually give up more and more civil liberties in the name of anti-terrorism and security. In his "world" this eventually leads to populous areas basically becoming "police states" while more freedom-conscious minds gravitate to rural America. He claims that this sets the stage for civil war in America which eventually ends due to a Russian nuclear attack on the US in 2015.

Yes, very far-fetched stuff I know. But I can't seem to shake the potential when everyday I see civil liberties being taken away in the name of national security and economic "bail-out". Pretty soon our entire economy will be nationalized and we can kiss the last remnants of democracy goodbye as we welcome in the ranks of socialism. If I'm the only person scared then fine, I'll commit myself later this week to a semi-permanent residence in a state-funded, psych ward.

Contary to popular usa belief democracy and socialism are not actually at odds.   Take the UK where i grew up which is very socialist compared to the USA (but nothing compared to other European countries) but is actually pobably more democratic that the USA in that one vote for a person elected counts as one vote not some weird mystery formula based on districts and electral votes. 

So without going into lots of discussion socialism and democracy are not at odds they probably complement each other... .. Now socialism and Capitialism are definatly at odds... and so is Capitalism and Democracy.


All that said and done i may very well already be a moat person .. or another older word for it HERMIT !!! lol

TBH, I feel that Communism is probably a little closer to Socialism but then again "I'm just a workin' man tryin' to come up" and my expertise is definitely not political science. One thing I do know though is that there is a big difference between freedom and equality; I think both Socialism and Communism are geared more toward forced equality at the expense of freedom and choice.

I agree though with your points about the electoral process and capitalism being at odds with socialism. Not sure about odds between democracy and capitalism though. I'm not saying that they are one in the same of course, only that a democracy tends to open the door to a stronger capitalist mentality in the greedy western culture. Bad or good? I don't know, I've never lived anywhere else to compare!!

I actually voted against a guard gate being installed in my little island community .....  as being a moat person is one thing .. but paying the extra $1500 a year in property taxes to PAY for a guard gate is a whole nother story.
