Academic Bookcase

I noticed that EA put the ability for Carpenters to make a new type of Book Case (Academic Bookcase) and it really does look cool, but the problem is that the ingredients seem almost impossible to get.  If anyone has any information on where these books can be found and how to get them I would appreciate it.  Would love to know if there is a Script or if someone is working on a script for this.  Why does EA give Carpenters something to make and make it sooo hard to make it?  Do they just want to laugh at us and / or see the frustration in our faces?  Do they just like to hear complaints on how impossible something is in the game?  I thought they were being nice to us and giving us a cool House Decoration Item!?

To make an Academic Bookcase you need the following:


A Carpenter with 60 or more skill:

25 Boards or Logs
1 Academic Book

Fhat the wuck is an Academic Book?  is that something that's difficult to get or is that just one of the city-spawned books?

That is what I am asking...you basically repeated the same question I had when I saw that Craftsmen can make new items...my Tinker finally made a Hitching Post (Replica) and that took forever to find and obtain those ingredients...any help I can get to find an Academic Book to made an Academic Bookcase is appreciated...

The Academic books are a new stealable. They are a level like 9 or something, spawn 1 a month or something stupid and they spawn somewhere on a table near bedlam in Umbra.  I think there is a picture in UOhall on stratics. I know on siege they are camped heavy and I personally haven't even seen one yet. Both the book shelves and the hitching post are supposed to be 11th year anniversary gifts. The japanese shards already have the ability to buy these tokens and the rest of UO does not. So I have seen some of these already. It seems easier to buy the token then to steal the books.

Ah cool thanks for that.  One of these days I need to polish up my old Doom looter and post that.  I've gotten every stealable aside from the inquisitors resolution.  The ruined paintings are still my fav.

ya they are a pain the ass to get becouse 1 they are heavily camped, spawn once a month, and the area sucks. btw if you do go looking for them please stop and say Hi to Red Death for me... we are well acquainted.

There are two spawn points for the academic books. One in the south room of the champ spawn in Bedlam, one in the building west of the stables area opposite Red Death. The books look like Doom stacks but are of bronze hue.

They do respawn every 8 days, yes, so figure an average of one bookcase every 4 days per shard. Assuming the books are nabbed as soon as they respawn... *cough* BOT *cough*... that's roughly 90 bookcases per shard per year, probably enough for 2-4 typical rune libraries.

Sounds like a new Script is needed here ... I will never get one!

I want to update this post as I still have not found any Academic Books in Bedlam yet.  These suckers are so elusive.  I have been loyal and have said "HI" to Red Death each and every time I have visited Bedlam. 

Anyone have any ideas on how to acquire one of these?  Spawn Frequency?  Etc.

REMINDER:   TM, did you not say you were going to post your Doom Looter?

The one thing i have not been able to find out from heavy digging yet is if these spawn with sever up or are a time based item which would allow for them to spawn while server is running.

Interesting.  we need to get their id's and some screen shots of where they spawn.  do u have to steal or can you just pick them up too.

Another good question for the books C2. I had not thought about the ability to pick them up or if you had to steal them. My bet would be since they are a level 9 artifact that you have to steal them just like the books and other items in DOOM.
