I have been looking at free shards, have tried a few and leaning towards Alexandria. What free shard do you play and why? What does it offer? Thanks for your input!

I play Alexandria, it close to OSI server, script work, support is great not to said awesome :) The players are friendly,
I saw you at the bank today.....

Getting started is tough, doesn't seem to be any vendors selling anything. I checked Luna because that is always the obvious place but maybe they have a different shopping area?

I play UOAlive.
It has a very small population but it's updated to the latest OSI patch.
I always PvPd in UO, and now I'm just trying out PvM. I'm enjoying it so far.
It is rough not having vendors though. hah

Not really close to OSI, but it's a fun shard with some unique stuff.... a small but dedicated player base that has seen some new faces around!

I tried to check it out but was totally unsuccessful. When creating a character, it keeps freezing up after choosing my skills and stats. I tried to create a forum account to see what was what but they are apparently using an old version of captcha and it no longer gives anything so I cannot create an account.

Yep, tried again tonight, I can log in and create a character but after choosing my skills, it freezes before going to the screen to choose where I start.

But for a freeshard, you have to use a client to be able to log into that freeshard. what client are you using?

DOH! I am using Razor Enhanced. I have tried a few lately and have had no issues using razor enhanced.

Some free shards have issues with certain clients and creating a char. It is all about how the char creation process occurs on the server. So try a different freeshard client and see if that works.

I tried UOSteam, Razor Enhanced, and the original Razor and the same thing on all of them. They are all set to admin as well.

I'm sure it's super frustrating :(
Mind giving it a shot again? I talked to the owner and he mentioned that he recently put a bunch of new deco on top of the bank ( where you spawn when creating a new char ) that might have been causing some crashes.

Hmm I just tried with razor enhanced and it worked for me, that is the correct IP / Port.
When you select client through RE, which client are you selecting?

I have recently tried 5 different free shards and I was able to connect and create characters on all but this one.

I appreciate the detailed info to debug and multiple attempts, definitely want people to be able to get connected. More people the better :D
Could you try giving the client thats avail for download from the LC site a shot? http://lostcityshard.com/ultima-online-free-shard-client-download/
I'm not 100% sure if the suggestion that it should work with razor is still valid or not, but I am using the downloaded version and that seems to be a smoking gun :)

Seems like my img isn't working ... I have <Path>\The_Lost_City_shard\client.exe selected. and the uo folder as <Path>\The_Lost_City_shard\

Well that was it. I downloaded their client and was able to log in. :D
Any others I should look at? I found one called Lost Paradise that I have been enjoying.

You ca always try Demise. This is an active shard with lot of player

https://13thrones.com requires roleplay but it's worth it, more fun and meaningful. Friendly community, auto account to see what it's like. Making a character requires understanding the game Lore, so a bit of reading 3-4 pages. Then 1 page write up of your character background...
Try it if you're bored of pointless running around and killing stuff...

Just beware don't flood server or you will be kicked a few times, maybe banned. Always use reasonable delays 7-10++ secs depending on skill.

I just started up UO again for the first time in 6ish years. :-\\ A friend of mine dragged me onto a shard named UO Outlands. . I have to say I am pretty impressed!! The shard is holding close to 1800+ clients online at any given time.
