Building an AR15 rifle

I have decided to build my own AR15 or two.  I am meeting with a FFL tomorrow to buy two stripped lower receivers.  The rest of the gear I can order of line, no FFL needed for the rest.  So far I am going with a hogue grip.  Will update as the build goes.

@OID - I have looked at prices for last couple months and various manufacturers and there is such a wide variety like s&w m&p sport model that sells at the local fred meyer for 599.00 to other manufactorers selling ar15's for like 3k.  After looking at the mid level entry ar15 (1000.00-1500.00) I figure I could build something to the same quality if not better for less.

Lower receiver parts kit, 2 stage trigger, should be here tomorrow.

Got the lower receiver parts kit installed and the grip.

11/4/13 Got my upper receive in
Got the stock and buffer spring and buffer installed

Hogue rubber ar15 pistol grip

Received my pickitiny free float quad rail.  Still need to order the bolt carrier group and sights.  Ordered this for the muzzle brake/flash suppressor.

Received my mag link today

update: complete

Home defense at its best.  I saw a sticker in the back window of a mini van (of all) that had a m16 and it said "if you want mine, bring yours!"  As I get older I find myself leaning towards the prepper lifestyle.  My goal now is to buy a small plane and have a cabin somewhere far away!

Putting one together is in my future as well, Currently I have a DPMS Oracle chambered in .308, picking up an Aimpoint Pro for it on thursday.  Just bought everything I need to reload .308 this last weekend too.  You ever make it up to Whatcom COunty?  We can go to my local range and shoot stuff.  Heck, anyone else that comes to Whatcom County hit me up if you want to shoot.  Might need a lil cash to help cover cost of ammo, but if you ever wanted to shoot a .38 special, 9mm 1911, .308 AR, or .22 bolt action rifle, come to my range with me sometime.  I'm not the best shooter, but I can teach some safety and you can try out what I have......

Yay guns!

an AR in .308 - I was just looking that up last night.  How do you like it?  I almost done with my build, i need to decide on some red dot optics.  Let me know how you like your aimpoint.  Just curious why a .308?  From my reading alot of police forces use it as a sniper rifle.

I wanted .308 after shooting my step brothers SOCOM .308 made by Springfield.  It was Beautiful!  And way out of my budget.  That was 3 years ago, and I have been huntung for an entry level semi auto in .308 since then.  A scout would have been sweet too, but out of budget.  I bought it near the end of the gun craziness, for $1200, you can do a little bit better now though.  Also, in WA, you can't legally hunt deer with a .223, but a .308 will do just fine for any critter or zombie in WA state,  The 16 inch barrel is short by about 2.5 inches for the caliber, but in WA where will I need to reach out past 400 yards to kill anything, can't see that far as there are so many trees and bushes here.  I chose the aimpoint pro over others due to the fact it's a proven platform, can stay zero with my caliber and I can leave it on for up to 3 years!  I was set on an EOTech, but my step-brother said he had seen more EOTechs fail in his time in Afghanistan then Aimpoints.  Later on i'll get the 3x magnifier that can flip out of the way.  And honestly the LR308 (DPMS) is more of an AR15 then  an AR10 if you look internally at the functionallity.  Most people I've talked to say it's really just an AR15 with beefier parts.  I like it, It kicks like a mule though.  I have a universal buttpad I put on it, but haven't shot it since then.  I told my 12 year old if he saved up I would split the cost of a .223 with him.  Hoby, what is your final price?
