Title: Luckiest Guy Ever!
Post by: SunTigress on July 15, 2009, 10:47:40 AM
Well, TT hasn't bothered to share this story with you. He is the luckiest guy ever. If you want something that drops rarely in game, he is the one to have in your party because he will eventually get it.

I first noticed his freaky luck when he was training is white wyrm (yes, it was a while ago). He was training on sphynx and it died. He randomly decided to open the corpse and what does he find? A Chaos Shield Museum Replica, dyed white, on the corpse! Are you kidding me?

Well then we were doing the glade with Ultima for days, over and over, trying to get that stupid Dread Horn Statue for Ultima. Finally, TT gets one. It was late at night, we all wanted to crash, but he talked us into doing just one more glade. What's he get? ANOTHER Dread Horn statue (which was promptly given to Ultima).

I wanted a Minotaur statue, so we started doing the Labrynth. Who got the statue? TT. I still don't have either statue.

I found the demon room in the fan dancer dojo, and got him to join me. I had spent days and days down there, and who gets the mempo after 20 minutes,? TT.

It's disgusting. Just plain disgusting. Even today, we are in the demon room again. He has twice the drops I do.

Life is Karma. Good/Evil... Happy/Sad... Balance.

Toptwo must be eliminated for the rest of us to have ANY KIND OF LUCK AT ALL!

I suppose I shouldn't be talking... based on averages I think I have him beat.

I needed an Arachnid Flute of Renewal to finish off my second set. I had a bunch of Demon Slayers, but couldn't find anyone to trade.

So I do a Tok Champ with my SW/Necro/Mage and notice a flute dropped. I purposely didn't look at it. After the spawn, after banking the gold, I head home to see what flute it is.... Arachnid. Ok, lets just evaluate the odds of that by itself. How many possible drop items are there, including all the dye colors? Now - how many flute types are there? So getting the exact flute I needed to finish off my set was fairly amazing.

Not finished..... While unloading my flute, I notice something funny about the boat I always carry in my pack. (Hey, you never know when you want to go sailing... NOT FISHING). It was larger then before.... OH wait something is on top of it... something golden brown in color.... something that has an unusual shape.... OMG! Something that looks LIKE A MEMPO!

So 2 drops, same champ. The exact two items that I could have wished for in my pack.

I guess it's Toptwo and me who are blowing the curve.... ;)

Is everybody here forgetting about Ultima????

Christ...the guy has a couple DH statues, but that wasn't enough...nope, he also nails a BLAZE CU, then tells us this morning he grabbed 3 Runics while scripting last night....

almost forgot, he was also the first to get a ghost anchor

Well I am the opposite of TT, his balance you might say.

I have been using the quester since he joined this site. Mostly, I was learning how to write code, but I wanted a stupid heartwood saw to make my whammy some armor. Just a simple saw. Nothing else. To this day I still have no saw. I have maybe a handful of yews, but I have been through probably 2M boards, nothing.

He gets all the statues, I get nothing. I got that stupid needle; can't even give that damn thing away. I got rocks. Wow. Rocks. The only interesting thing I got was the sash, which I promptly sold.

Who, I ask, Who is the balance for Ultima and Cerveza?

What are the chances of getting this off a Miasma?

Lightning          46
Mana Leech      60
Lower Defense  44
Life Leech        52
Damage           39

Cleaver. :)  Not bad for a cleaver...

I feel pretty lucky, lets see, when Ultima and I first started spawning on the asian shard one of the first spawns we did i got two 120 magery's pop into my backpack.  Another time, I had just recently got a crimmy, then a friend on mine said they were doing mel, I was late to the party, she came out and got me and who gets a crimmy!! Me.  Years ago when I first started doing doom, first arty was a orni, then a spirit of the totem, the two i needed most.

I've been experiencing such sceneries myself too, just that im always the lucky one. It cant be just random because it happens in every occasion when its possible, i have got huge number of 120 ps'es, and if our raid gets even one then it has to be in my pack. Also in other games like in Lineage 2 where ppl usually rely on crafting higher end gear because drop rates are like 1/300k i usually just look up the mob who drops it and just drop by there for a day or two and get what i was looking for ;)

Too bad its for gaming world only, haven't got any lottery wins yet  :'(

As I recall, one of the last things Leurocian confirmed before he left was that Luck is broken.

Ironic, considering his artifact...

Luck does work to an extent. It's not functioning 100% properly though.... Don't believe me, wear a 2k+ luck suit to a peerless. Check loot with and without suit.

So, what is that threshold where you think luck stops working\doesn't matter?

When we came back to UO, we used to kill Miasma a lot. In the begging, I was not wearing any luck and often I caused the most damage (yes, there were 2 of us killing poor Miasma  :D). Then I got a suit with 1140 luck. We saw a big difference in quality of items right away.

I cannot make such an experiment on peerless yet because you really have to kill a lot with a) average luck suit b) no luck suit c) 2K + luck, making sure you are the one causing the most damage (I cannot solo any of them - don't throw rotten tomatoes at me  ;)). You have to put loot in separate bags, write down which was collected with max luck/average luck/without any and when you have at least 15 bags =5 of a, b and c, then you can compare all the loot and decide if and how luck works in this game.

How about all these people nominated in this thread as "the luckiest guy ever"? Do they wear a luck suite and if they do, what their total luck is?

Well Nobama....

When we did those Dreadhorn runs sometimes I would put the luck suit on the top damager just before dropping dread horn. Remember?

Sometimes we would get some mods on weapons that were really high in intensity. Like 3 or 4 mods with +40%....

It appeared as though sometimes the 'luck' kicked in but I could be wrong...

I let alot of magical shortbows slide your way that in hindsight I wish I wouldn't have. 8)

What magical shortbows?  None here with 50% hit fireball, 30% SSI, 30% mana leech, 30% stam leech.  Nope.  none.

 :P

Dammit, you're going to make me come to Balhae to relive old times, aren't you?  Maybe when I move to california this summer and can ping 30 to Japan like you...

??? Was it a response to my last comment that had to be removed later on? I didn't have a chance to read it. I guess, if it was addressed to me, then I should be happy that I haven't seen it   ::)

It appeared as though sometimes the 'luck' kicked in but I could be wrong...

Ultima, I don't know if you read this article about luck in the game
http://www.uoguide.com/Luck, but it explains very well how it works.

Let's say at the time a dread horn died, your luck suit was 2000. It is 68.2% that a loot will be increased. So if the game generates a random number at the time of the death from 0 to 99 (according to the article), then any number below 68 will mean that your loot will be increased, but any random number above 68 will mean that your loot won't be affected.

Quote:
If (Luck percentage (%) chance value > RNG value)
    Increase loot
Else
    Do not increase loot

Unless you have 3981 luck, which gives you 99,9% chance, then it is difficult to say if luck mattered or didn't without a thorough experiment.

Title: Re: Luckiest Guy Ever!
Post by: Ultima on April 25, 2010, 01:09:28 PM
LOL! So it works!?

There seems to be conflicting information as to whether or not it actually works...

It appeared that sometimes it did in fact work for me. However everyone and their brother is parroting what the Dev's acknowledged...that luck is in fact not working.

I don't think the Dev's even know...hell they've change hands so many time over the years whoever is at the helm probably wasn't even there when luck was written in and hasn't the clue or the time to deal with it.

So we get the complaints from people that luck isn't working. Then we get the classic OSI/EA response..."Yes we know, we're working on it. We'll fix it soon!"

Luck...it's a conspiracy! ;)

I use no luck and I get every drop in game. Some examples:

1.) Ran upon a small guild doing a spawn at the bog one day. They had champ low on health already. I hit it with about 4-5 flamestrikes. When the thing died I got the +4 Int boots. :D

2.) Raided a spawn once and through up some para fields. Never killed any spawn. When the champ dropped I received a replica.

3.) Did 2 oaks (in ilsh) in a row once. Got +3 Int boots on each one.

However, besides doing champ spawns my pvm experience is pretty bleh. :D

I'm 90% sure luck has no part in replica or scroll drops. It just matters for monster loot. As far as peerless special drops (crimson, crystalline, etc) I'm not sure if it does, but I don't think so.
