Howdy! I played OSI from before Tram, to not long after they introduced Power scrolls..  i suddenly found that my Grandmaster Blacksmith was at the bottom of the heap again. I was maintaining three large vendor malls, and it never occured to me that I needed to be trying to get those power scrolls, until i was told by someone I offered to make Armor for, that they would wait for a legendary smith....   I then, spent about three months trying to beg, borrow or steal a legendary powerscroll, I went to every champ i could, and in the end, i was so aggrivated and frustrated that I flat out quit, i walked away from the vendor malls, all the vendors, the houses they were in as well. I had chests filled with stock, and old Vanq items i had collected. (while they were still gettable)
    I played other games, much nicer games graphically, but, I found myself missing UO...
   A friend of mine sent me an ICQ Message one day with some instructions, and I soon found myself on his Sphere server...  we talked a while, I bought a new computer, we migrated the server to it, and were soon involved in making our own world...
   Involved.. is an understatement... that server didnt even have a DOOR on any building, no signs, Nothing! but we built it, and he taught me a little about scripting, I believe it was C++... he left eventually, and I met another great guy that could script, so we continued... we upgraded to RunUO eventually, and that server ran until about three years ago...
   Lightning hit my house, and did a LOT of damage, both to the house, and to most of the electronic stuff i had in that house. I lost the tv and vcr, the phones, and 5 computers... including the shard.
  it took quite a while to get all of that fixed, and insurance dealt with.. obviously it took an act of god to convince the insurance company that I hadnt set up lightning rods on my roof for the sole purpose of attracting the lightning just to get money from them....
   A few weeks ago, I started playing UO again, on a great shard. It amazed me that the owner was running it very closely to how I had run my own... the funny thing was, within two weeks of starting on that shard, i suddenly get a PM from the girl that was my head Admin asking if this was the same KnitePrince etc etc... within two more weeks, there were a half a dozen other people on that shard that used to play on ours...  it was Great to see all the old names I hadnt seen in three years.. it rekindled the fires, and were working on recreating what we lost...
   i was amazed first of all, at the near death of RunUO.. with the assistance of that community a few years ago, i was capable of keeping my shard going even with my limited scripting abilitys.. now however, its a surprise if a question is actually answered on those boards in desperation, I did a search, and found this site.. i have no idea if there is any type of support available here or not, but seeing an active board that involved people who still play UO was enough to convince me i needed to join, even if only to read the plethora of old posts ..
   The rest of amazed, is that UO can still hold peoples interest, its outdated, and graphically ugly in comparison to many newer games, i guess it comes down to the meat.. while those games are great, none of them had the Meat like UO. I even played EVE for two years and did not find the satisfaction in it that I do in UO...
  So, now that ive written my life story, I have my Coffee, and am off to read!!!
