Logitech G15 Keyboard

I've had one for a LOOOOONG time, like since they first came out.

I loved it. (Note the past tense). Yes, my G15 with the tip screen and three rows of G keys died last week, or more accurately...
WAS MURDERED  :o

My darling wife was recently introduced to the internet phenomenon known as on-line drama's. While enjoying some of these 12,000,000 episode shows, she made a logistical error in ranging her consumable which resulted in catastrophic expulsion of liquid in a keyboard-erly direction.

She spilled a glass of water on my beloved G15  :-[

I loved that keyboard. And now it was dead. Well, not exactly dead, it survived on life support with limited brain function. Z, N, and SPACE no longer worked at all, while other keys gave interesting responses. <-Back Space would open help screens (F1) and then display the current date. The actual F keys would vary in functions from paging down to repeating the number 9.

I had to make the call... without a living will available to go by, I chose to put my poor G15 out of it's misery.

My wife felt terrible. She told me "Oh well, just go buy another one". You can see just how broken up she was about my loss, poor thing. Little did she realize.... there was no other one to buy.

My G15 was the V1 model. With the tip LCD screen and the 18 G keys. This thing was wider then my 19" flat screen monitor. And most importantly, it was symmetrical, kinda. It was also no longer available. Many complaints about the size of the keyboard not fitting in pull out keyboard slots (who uses those anyways?). One of the main reasons I loved this keyboard turned out to be it's undoing. Logitech developed the V2.

The new G15 V2 looks like this:

It now resides in the spot my beloved once lived. It's narrowed form trying to fill a greater void in my heart. This new G15 feels so uncaring. It's screen won't tip to give me the best view... it's narrowed chassis makes me feel like I'm typing "to the left" all the time. The new reddish (orange?) keys just aren't as warm as my old blue. And I don't even want to talk about the fact they replaced the volume wheel with buttons. C'mon... BUTTONS?!

I'll have to learn to love again. Eventually, this new G15 will become my friend, and if all goes well... it will fill that void left behind by that dreaded cup of water. I'll always have my memories, my G15 (V1) and me. I'll remember the first time I got the Team Speak mod to work with it.... and loading up that BF2 mod so I could see my kill count and remaining grenades.

*BTW, I have V1 pulled apart and I'm cleaning all contacts with alcohol. There's a chance I could breath life back into her. A mad dream of a heartsick lover? Perhaps... but this crazed tech will take that chance... muahaha... duct tape, q-tips, lint-free clothe.... charge paddles to 5v - CLEAR!

If I pay more than $3.00 for a keyboard, I have to receive an electrical shock.... :p

Khameleon just recently told me about the G11. So I ran to Target ended up paying about $65 for it. Money well spent in my opinion. Keyboard kick you know what...

I don't have to pound keys like mad anymore as you can program keystroke into macros. Champion Spawning and Peerless hunting made even easier. Now I can actually take my hand of the keyboard and take a drink in the heat of battle.

I wish I'd have know about this thing earlier. Absolutely marvelous. :)

Ya, I Rule!

I just bought the G11 also, no fancy Display for macro's but it does the job nicely...

BTW Cerveza, nice way to milk a new keyboard.  ;)  Did you really just sabotage it and blame it on your wife?  I would!   heh

wow, those keyboards are more complex than my entire car is! I only have a 2000 ford escort, but still, I'd be afraid to take any of those kboards out of the box.

Despite your distaste for the newer G15, I absolutely LOVE mine.  The buttons don't click nearly as loud as some cheaper keyboards (no angry wife being woken up by me at 3 AM button mashing), the screen angle is fine if you have an adjustable chair, but I will agree the orange-ish lights are lacking.

If you play any FPS, I recommend the G5 weighted mouse as a complimentary device to the G15.

I had my first mouse die at 2 weeks, (laser died), but I got it replaced no questions asked.  After looking online it's a "common" problem.  By common I mean that it's the most frequent failure, though the percentage of faulty mice is minimal.

OMG! And ditch my MX518!?! Never!  >:(

I use the two thumb buttons for squad VOIP and TeamSpeak.

Two thumb buttons on the G5.  ;)

Despite how insignificant adding weight pellets to the mouse may seem, it makes a HUGE difference.  And having the ability to increase or decrease mouse speed via mouse is plain epic.

I've been thinking about getting the new Nostromo n52te or whatever it is, to replace my USB numpad. Not sure if I want to fork over the dough for it though (Just bought a $1000 12.1" Touchscreen Laptop lol)
