@Trixta:

Here's a version that shows a dropdown of all clients the programs knows about.  It still only selects the first one, but at least you can tell if all your client sources are being found or if there are ones I don't know how to search for....

It should be possible to override everything and add a custom path.  Should probably do that anyhow...  I just need to write the code to associate a specific location of the client with a particular shard.  Not a big deal really.

BTW, these are the registry keys I'm presently processing:

Code: [Select]
Registry.LocalMachine.OpenSubKey("SOFTWARE").OpenSubKey("EA GAMES").OpenSubKey("Ultima Online Samurai Empire");
Registry.LocalMachine.OpenSubKey("SOFTWARE").OpenSubKey("Origin Worlds Online").OpenSubKey("Ultima Online").OpenSubKey(@"1.0");
Registry.LocalMachine.OpenSubKey("SOFTWARE").OpenSubKey("Electronic Arts").OpenSubKey("EA Games").OpenSubKey("Ultima Online Classic");
Registry.LocalMachine.OpenSubKey("SOFTWARE").OpenSubKey("Wow6432Node").OpenSubKey("Electronic Arts").OpenSubKey("EA Games").OpenSubKey("Ultima Online Classic");

FYI

Aye,

This particular client Is on my desktop. Had to throw it there one day and never moved it back haha.

Is it impossible to make the Header area editable ?
We can edit the other areas, I.E. shard name, shard address etc.

This is not likely a common issue, since I play a billion free servers with custom content and keep different folders with uo in them :P
Most folks will only have a few folders and typically do not edit their registry like me :P   :D  :D

P.S.  that version works, and is editable  (:

It's relatively easy.  I already started work on it.  Your issue is pretty common actually, so that's why it's kinda nice to let a few other people test to try and figure out how to make it work well with the greatest number of people.

This program is well suited for you if you play a bunch of servers.  Already I find it nice to bounce between my 2 OSI accounts, 3 Alexandra accounts and 1 RebirthUO account.

When you say "works" you can't mean it runs your client from your desktop?  That would be magic right as it's presently coded.  ;)

Correct, I should have said that the header is editable, I have not tested the launch yet, I had to pick up my daughter from the dentist :P
I am sure I'll have to play with my registry, and or path the client via the editable launcher.

Unless you are saying I cannot edit it even though it allows me to type into it? LOL

It'll still try and launch from the first directory it finds regardless of your hand-entry.  I'll see if I can bring better functionality out tonight sometime.

No worries,

I tried to copy paste and also hand key into that header,(while it does allow me to edit the header now) it does not allow me to save it or launch by manually doing it :P

Here is what I usually do when using Steam or Razor.

It has options to allow me to Browse where i want it to launch from ...

I can add and save new shards to the personal and favorites but not the public. Is that by design? I guess there really isn't a reason to have a server in more than one tab, I guess I am more curious about it than anything.

Yes, that's by design.  The public tab is "built in" shards that either come with the program or eventually come with an approved list of "SUO friendly" shards.  Anything else added will go to the other 2 tabs.  If you drag a link (see the very bottom of the ScriptUO.com website for the "SUO Launcher" link) to see that those are always added to the personal tab first.  After that you can add your account information and further organize them by moving them to your favorites.

It sounds like your virus protection. Do you have the paid version or free version of Malware Bytes? Free does not scan in the background, so if free it would only block it if you were doing a scan. My guess would be Microsoft security. It is most likely disabling it. I know Norton removed it and I had to go in and restore it through Norton.

No first time I had time to try it!

Well hopefully the suggestions from Crisis will help.  I remember having an issue similar on my Win2003 server VM, and I *can't* remember how I fixed it.  I think it was admin rights, but I can't be sure because I was in the middle of a flurry of testing.  That was also before breaking out my notebook (paper one) to take notes as I think of things to add/test.

Gawd, now rejected by Amazon affiliates.  WTF?  Ok, I had to add a link to the main page of the site and hopefully that will be enough to make them reconsider.   I thought that cat was in the bag...

Additional Notice : Qihoo full Security counts it as malware. You have to allow it then.

It works great so far, the ads are a bit annoying but its fine for me else all works flawless...

Yes they are, aren't they.... :)

Seriously, the Amazon links may have to go away as they are being buttheads.  I'll pull the chitika ads because they sucks.  I'll figure out how to work in the 200x200 google ads though.  I love those ads because they are VERY good contextual ads that target your favorite things.  I acually love clicking them because they are interesting for me much of the time.  (example of the 2nd google ad at the bottom of this site)

Of course Google ads are going to be a pain in the ass as well. Google doesn't allow you to open up a window or a tab, but only open on the same page.  So it will be hard in .net to figure out.  Adsense has so many rules.   It looks like I may have to break a few of those rules in order to get this thing to work.

Not sure if it is intended, but when i hover over the top right ad, it opens the webpage right away, without a click :P

P.S. it seems to happen right when an ad changes.

Definitely not intended, but something I haven't quite worked out yet.  Google makes doing things a pain, so I'm trying to figure out how to be clever....

I noticed that too, so that issue was in the release notes on the download thread.

You figured out it was a hover thing.  Took me a while to figure out why the damn page kept opening!

Try to click the "Update" Button.  That'll update all shard info in either personal or favorites tabs.  I'll make it work a little more automagically.
Title: Re: SUO Launcher - Feedback
Post by: TrailMyx on March 10, 2015, 09:33:33 AM
Once I get the ad servicing working, I'll disable it for the balance of the testing.  It's almost there; I just need to figure out that hover click thing...

For giggles, I need to see if the clicks are registering in adsense, so if you do get a chance to click them, please try on a couple of them.  I *believe* I registered the clicks that Trixta did yesterday.  Google is *very* smart about it.  I cannot test because they have my IP logged and will filter the clicks back to zero.  They probably have someone invisible standing behind me reporting back to the mother ship.  lol

aye,

I have all my free servers stored on the personal tab, and it saves it there, just not on initial launch, it still says "cannot find a client"

It allows me to launch the client perfectly once I select the personal or favorites tab, that has the stored info.  It even then repopulates the public tab with the correct client path.

Hmm, so are you saying that when you restart, the path for it has reverted to whatever was in your XML setup?  I reset my XML setup, and can save.  Perhaps you just have a corrupted XML?

When I restart now, the path is updated to whatever I had set using the "Update" button.  I know that's working because I invalidated my installation by changing the main pathname.

I just want to know what's different on your end...

I'm actually working through the setup of the program now that it's mostly done and re-formatting all of the initialization.  Hopefully it'll start working better for you Trixta once I have the logic making a bit more sense.  I see where the Launch button can become greyed and not be ungreyed.  So lemme work on it a bit.  I have to goto work today, so I might not have a new version until later this evening.

Okay, tested out the newest one (V9). It launches the clients great as it did before.

1. There is a a small UO screenshot, I saw something about a shard advertisement but it does not show anything like that, just looks like a screenshot of a player and a statue on house steps.
2. Hover over uo screenshot that rotates in and out with Amazon ads, hover over it and it opens SUO at the main page.
3. Google ads, rotate and then after a few, it goes blank and sometimes there is an ad, and sometimes nothing. When it is blank, it has nothing to click on, I was thinking it would still take you to an ad site but not.
4. The small rectangular box at the bottom that says "located valid client" has a small thing on the right side to drag and possible enlarge. Nothing happens when you drag it but it is there.
5. The "About SUO Launcher" works good and the links to SUO and support (takes you to SUO Amazon page)

1)
The UO screenshot was the beginnings of the 1st graphic splash for the Launcher.  It will just show once before the ad and the selected shard banner.  Right now that's just not quite done yet.

2) The hover over ads issue is something I'm working on.  Shouldn't be working that way, but it is anyhow.  I must fix that before this is released - it's quite annoying!

3) The google ads go blank because of some test code I have in there to try and prevent the hover-click.  That white space should go away once I figure out the hover issue

4)  I'll have to remove that handle if possible.  It does suggest "drag" and "resize", but this is a dialog-framed window, so there's no dragging or resizing possible.

Awesome testing, thanks for checking that stuff.

How crazy hard would it be to add the tree hack?  Would you have to update it each time uo patches?
I guess the target audience is freeserver users and a lot of them have custom art too. Hmmmmmm

Tree hack and Always light seems to be the most requested mod ever LOL  You have 50% covered already.
Figured I would throw that out there. Having not been involved with tree hack since Winuo I would only speculate on the difficulties nowadays.

The tree hack might not be easy since that effects more than one file.  The always light mod only required the change of client.exe.  Frankly, I don't know the details about the tree hack, so I might not understand.  Perhaps someone who knows this might be able to enlighten me.

Is this multipatcher still available?

I'll see if I can get it to work later, when I get done with these skills on UO-Rebirth.  (Tidus is making me level my chars and grind gear hahahaaha  Love you Tidus) :P

Looks like some other useful tools there too, but like I said the last time i messed with any of it was in like 2010-11 ish

That worked for me.  No graphic loaded though.  I'm assuming you didn't do that yet?

Oh, btw, I added another tag for the website url.  See the stickied post for the meta link.  You don't have to crunch the name and web url on the same line anymore (that's what I was thinking to do originally).

Tested out (V10) which was working nice. Shards connected nicely and I was happy to see that it saved the shards in personal and favorites. When I swapped from V8 to V9 the saved ones had disappeared.

1. The Google ads disappeared after a couple of rotations to never return even after closing it out and reopening.
2. The screenshot that rotates with the SUO Amazon store items stays on a lot longer than it probably should. I would think the rotation would be faster and the Amazon items would be visible longer than the screenshot.
3. I could not get anything to open when hovering over and moving mouse around. :)
4. This probably has no relevance but when I when I hover just below the buttons (add to personal, copy to favorites, updates, remove shard) the Archive Clients goes from TRUE to FALSE.

That's a known issue when you try to run a webbrowser that doesn't have admin rights.  If you run your webbrowser with admin rights, then you should be able to link links.  Known and annoying issue of the interwebz and Windowz.

1. That may have been a Google thing.  I'll keep an eye on it
2. I'm going to be changing the way the banner stuff displays now that I have some time.  Each one can be individually programmed with a timer and a number of displays.  I only want the SUO Launcher splash screen to display once, for example.  Now the hover thing is fixed, I can work on features!
3. Thank friggin GOD!
4. True/False displaying is just test code I'm using to show that the timer for the lower ad display has been reset.  If the mouse crosses that threshold, I reset the timer for another 9 seconds just so if someone was going to try and click something, there isn't a race to click it - especially if the timer was set to less than 1 second before changing the banner.  Make sense?

I just run it off the desktop.  The XML file gets formed wherever you have the executable.  I'm toying with the idea to create an installer that will actually install this to a known directory, but that's hassle I didn't want.  It will solve a couple problems I'm having with needing a few temp files from time to time.

We NEED you to be able to run this!  Noboby breaks things quite like you (Or Kham for that matter)

I know you guys hate clicking the ads, but I need to be sure the change I made didn't break the ability to send the click information to Google.  So click a couple of the ads when they chance so I can make sure they are registering with Adsense.

I'll probably have to make one more small change, and have to test the clicking again.  I can't test like I said; they know my IP!

Started to click a few of the ads and bam I broke it.

here is what i did, after click a few of the ads I decided to try out the lil X tick on the top right ad, well once i did it froze for a moment and the follow poped up....

when I tried to replicate it, I was unable to do so , however I was able to clicky the x and I clicked this ad covers the page and now nothing is populated in the ad space :P

**Quick edit  after a few moments the ads repopulated and are working again**

P.S. here is a copy of the log

I was able to replicate, I am going to try a few things and see if it is a pattern

Kewl, just an exception I need to wrap.  Thanks for that, I haven't seen that one yet!

Looks like I have to give up on the Google Adsense.  My method of serving them flagged the account and it was disabled.  Oh well, it was worth a try.

We NEED you to be able to run this!  Noboby breaks things quite like you (Or Kham for that matter)

Great, We are actually encouraged to break something and I can't!  :'(

Don't worry, I'll introduce more breakable things all the time!

Looks like you might have a memory leak somewhere.  I have not opened a client yet and still the memory keeps going up.

As i look at it, it seems to only go up in memory as it rotates the images at the bottom.

kewl, I was going to look into that next.  So much for automatic garbage collection!  How long did you let it run to get to that point?

That was after about 15 minutes

That was after about 15 minutes
I let version 11 run all night long without much increase.  It leveled out at around 33MB.  So it must have been the event tracker I wrote to figure out the phantom clicking.

I'm probably going to go away from the pay/click thing and find some interesting partner programs.  Amazon is great and I like their content.  The pay/click stuff annoyed the crap out of me, plus they are very paranoid about it.  No doubt they have been scammed by click harveters and automated bots, so it's hard for people like me to use their products in a reasonable way.

How a bout a Shard program for a small fee?

How a bout a Shard program for a small fee?

In my lazy waning days, I didn't really want to manage anything.  I just don't have the energy to handle the infrastructure to manage/maintain a program like that.

Still running Version 10.  Will get to 11 today.

Version 11 will still probably generate the script error.  I forgot to suppress those errors in the web control.  That happens ALOT on my Win2003 test box.

Also still phantom clicking.  The one nice thing about getting away from the click farming ads is that I don't have to do anything special to open webpages anymore.  Basic links are infinitely easier to handle programmatically.

Thanks for the feedback and the screenies!

V12 is no longer memory leaking for me.  So I think the error handling helped.

Awesome!  Stupid test code!  Since I was never flushing the windows event logging, it was going to use whatever you have!  heh

Found a little diddy,

I downloaded the new version today and cleared my personal tab, I added only Uo-Rebirth to the personal tab and attempted to connect, I found myself connected to Alexandria instead :P

I figured out that if you only have one server in the personal or favorites tab it does not allow you to select the server and instead defaults you to the server highlighted in the public tab.

If You add additional servers to the personal or favorites tab it then allows you to select and connect to the desired server.

Ah, I see the tab switch isn't updating the information above.  Yes, I must have broken it!

Silly error.  ">" vs. ">="  I'll fix now.

just noticed the mail and wanting to give feedback: downloaded, wrote shard address, logged in.

process took ~30 seconds...
SMOOTH!

Good deal.  Smooth is what we like to see.  Would even be smoother if they had a link so you could just drag the information to the page! ;)

Red Squirrel is looking at putting a link onto UOGateway.

Unfortunately the mail didn't go out to everyone.  My email server only handles 500/hr, so I missed quite a few when the server choked.  :O

Yeh I get that too.  It's because of the image in the background.  Didn't used to happen when I had the background blank.  I'll see if there is something that can be done about it.  It is annoying... :)

Do you play a bunch of freeshards, or just UOdreams, Bandito?

i'm mainly playing on UODreams (http://www.uodreams.it/) [login: login.uodreams.com , port:2593] ML like shard, light customization from OSI
90-100 players, single account

but logging in time to time on (old guildmates/friends went on different shards :( ):

UOForever (http://www.uoforever.com) - aos like custom shard
SERVER LOGIN: login.uoforever.com
SERVER PORT: 2599

seen 400 player average, but consider 3x account per player admitted

UOAncorp (http://www.uoancorp.com) - pre aos like (very old style) custom
 -   login.uoancorp.com - US Main Server
 -   login2.uoancorp.com - US Main Server Backup IP
 -   play.uoancorp.com - EU Server (Use this whenever the US server IP addresses are unreachable)
port 2593

very high pop: seen 1000+ player recently, but consider 3x account per player admitted

Yeh, I saw that, but it doesn't include good stuff like the decryper and linker.  :)
