New member introductions / Hi, I'm not really new. :)
« on: December 18, 2017, 10:28:00 AM »
Hello all,

I'm not actually new, just returning, and I already have access, but I thought since it's been a little while I'd reintroduce myself.

I just came back to UO after several years away.  I spent a little time on a free account on OSI, but hated the restrictions and started looking through freeshards until I found a small community I liked.  I've only been playing there a couple weeks, but I've been bit by the bug again, haha.

A little about me off the computer: my name is James, I'm 31, and I have a degree in computer science that I don't use except for things like writing scripts.  :P  I live alone, which I prefer, but I'm definitely a people person.  No pets, because my apartment building won't allow it, or I would definitely have a Miniature Husky.  Adorable buggers:

I mostly play UO for the freedom to do what I want to, play the market, and probably most importantly, invent automated ways to get things I would like.  Scripting in UO for me is quite a bit of fun, because it's like solving a puzzle that will lead to an ongoing reward.  I've published a couple scripts over at the other site (not sure if we're allowed to name names?), but the bulk of my collection hasn't seen the light of day, ha ha.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and thank you.  I'm sure some of the scripts in my little script library (I can't believe I still have it saved all these years later) are from this site, and I know that I've downloaded a couple since returning.  I appreciate the hard work that's gone into them, especially a lot of TMs scripts which are always so well put together.

That's all, Merry Chirstmas,
James

Scripting Chat / Hag quest or Compassion (Escort) Quests?

Has anyone built a script to do the hag quest or the escort/compassion quests?  If not I'm going after it, but I'd rather not do it if someone else already has.

Scripting Chat / House placement timer?

Hey all,
Trying to create a house placement script, just wondering how long of a pause I need to have between tool uses to avoid a cool down with optimal efficiency?

Thanks!

Pretty sure on OSI shards the devs made it so you can't turn a profit with any basic crafting skill by crafting things to resell to NPCs.  The rest sounds good, though.

Ah, that's good to know.  OSI folks will only be able to use it for training then.  :(

Freeshard folks will enjoy it more though, lol

For training purposes, Recycle or Unravel FTW.

Very much agreed for those skills that have items that can be recycled to stretch cloth, ingot consumption.

I hadn't thought about training bowcraft with oak/ash boards so that you could unravel the items into residue. Only drawback would be having to have imbuing on the character or dumping into containers so that your imbuer could do their thing with the items.

Or being on a freeshard with no imbuing support.  ;)

There are many, many things that cannot be unraveled.  Look at inscription for example.  ;)

And it's not solely for training, but that is where I suspect it will be used most.

Craft and sell to a vendor, not to players.

Howdy all,
I'm working on two scripts and have a few questions regarding each... feel free to answer any or all questions:

Auto-crafter:
This will auto craft and sell items for the purpose of training without going broke, and hopefully to generate gold.  I'm going to start with inscription and just work my way through the skills.  Basically you'll be able to set the item to craft and sell, where to sell it, where to get more resources, and so forth.
1.  Are there any crafting subs available I can use in my scripts that wont get me a nasty "tsk tsk" for using them in my scripts when I release them?   ;D
2.  Anyone have numbers on best things to craft and sell for money on OSI?  I'm on a freeshard, but I'd like to make this useful.

Auto Anti-Virtue Dungeon Hunter
This script will recall through a loop of runes, killing the mobs at each location (customizable), and moving on when they are gone.  Weight checks to head back to the bank, and safety checks for near death experiences will be included.  The script will start off as focus on using a basic sammy to kill, but I'd like to eventually add other classes.  Looting will include the ability to cut corpses and collect any custom item types.  Script will be "artifact aware" and will optionally return to bank on new artifact or insure said artifact if it's not blessed (on OSI are they all blessed?).
3.  Any public runebook subs?
4.  Any public journal subs (if not, I have a pretty good idea of what I'm gonna write, I've been needing a solid one)?
5.  Is bag of sending support really worth it any more?  Recall is cheap.

Thanks for the help guys!

Is the name right in the script setup in the beginning?

wow..I remember this script all too well. I just went through my old files and came up blank, so if you are willing to post it back up I would love to have it back in my files. I need quite a few more statues to finish my set :)

Funny my having been a preschool teacher is coming up in two topics:
I had one child who was that typical "put things in every orifice on your face" kids (3 or 4 years old).  I was subbing in his class, and found out about his behavior... so I (thought) I move anything he could get ahold of away from him before nap time.  The kid some how found a crayon, broke it, and shoved it all the way up his nose.  Then he panicked and tried to get it out, and shoved it further up his nose.  I heard him start to cry and go over, there was actually a bulge in his nose where the crayon was.

At the time, it wasn't funny at all, but looking back, it was pretty hilarious.

Crud, I can't watch it!  He blacked it out, and the link in his description is just a revenue generator.
