Scripting Chat / Any Way to Suppress System Messages?
« on: January 28, 2016, 06:23:57 PM »
I'm just curious if anything like this exists. I use Razor and I have all Razor messages turned off. I don't ask Razor to combine repeat system messages because it seems to be no better. I just get a slew of messages with numbers after them instead of individual ones without numbers. But I'm sure you know what I'm saying - all those stupid "You received x gold" or "x tokens" or "Your whirlwind attack strikes a target" messages that you just don't need to see x infinity. Also on the server I'm playing on, there are notifications whenever a player logs in or out of the server and sometimes they create fierce lag.

Scripting Chat / Help with Corpse Cutting Script
« on: January 12, 2016, 05:57:20 AM »
This is just a general question because I'm lost. I chopped up the Blaz'n Skinner script and used only the part of it I wanted, which was the beginning. So all it does for me now is asks me to target my blade when I first start the script, then searches for corpses within 2 tiles and cuts them up. However, it tries to cut any and every corpse which is wasting time and loot and slowing my whirlwind attacks down sometimes because it's too busy trying to cut corpses that don't produce anything. So here's the question: is there a way to find an ID for certain types of corpses so that I can create an ignore list? I did some research and I think I'd be able to do it if I could find a generic ID (for example) for "wisp corpse" or "elemental corpse". When I examined corpses within EUO I was only able to find two IDs - YFM which signifies ANY corpse, and the CONTID/LOBJECTID which is unique to that specific corpse and does me no good. Any help would be appreciated and if/when I get this dialed in, I'll be more than happy to share the final result.

Scripting Chat / EUO, Razor, and Steam
« on: December 06, 2015, 06:04:50 PM »
**I wasn't sure which particular board to post this on. If this isn't the appropriate one, please go ahead and move it. :)  I also realize this is most definitely not the EUO boards, so if this is totally inappropriate please delete.

My question about EUO is just this: with this news about EUO being shut down, where would be the best place to go for EUO scripting questions? Ironically, I never tried to write or adjust any EUO scripts until about a week ago, when I switched to a server that the Blaz'n Heal script doesn't work on (no [bandself, [bs, or any such thing there). Now I'm about up a creek.

My thing about Steam and Razor is this: nearly everyone who uses Steam says "U need to get Steam, it's so much better than Razor, Razor sucks". Well, I dl'ed Steam and started it up and I'll be damned if it didn't look like almost a carbon copy of Razor. One that I'd need to learn a whole different way of writing macros in. My experience over the years has been that not a whole lot of people are extremely proficient with Razor. I've personally been able to write pretty complex macros in it and supplement the few things it couldn't do for me with EUO scripts. I notice it has an autoloot option but the free server I just started on has that built-in already with a gold ledger and loot bag. So, with Steam's autolooter being unnecessary, is there really any pressing reason for me to make a switch to Steam? I'm not a hater, I just don't see it... but I'm more than willing to listen to valid points if there are any.

Scripting Chat / Is there a spell timer script anywhere?
« on: October 22, 2015, 04:59:25 AM »
I'm thinking it would be handy to have a visual indicator of how much time my Consecrate Weapon / Div Fury have on them  and/or how long debuffs or negative effects on monsters are going to last. If this has ever been done, I can't find it unfortunately.

General UO Chat / A question about digging sand
« on: August 02, 2015, 07:31:58 PM »
I'd like to do something to help me dig sand a little more efficiently and I don't know of any way in Razor or any script that can help me do it. Through trial and error, I can't stand digging and waiting in one spot, failing 3/4 of the attempts. I've come to realize that if I stand at the corner of where sand resource grids meet, I can use separate shovels to dig in separate grids and it isn't so bad. The thing is, I've only been able to do it manually though. I could write a simple macro in Razor to do it with specific shovels but when they run out of uses, I'd have to get new shovels, set their item ids all over, and it would be inconvenient as heck. Is there anything already in existence that would allow me to use four separate shovels to mine four separate sand grids without any hassle at all?

Games & Game Systems / Older PC Ultima Games
« on: August 01, 2015, 06:41:03 PM »
I figured that I would throw some stuff out there and see how many REALLY old time Ultima fans respond. :) I started the series with Ultima IV - fell in love with it - but I never finished the game because of some critical errors and I never did figure out if it was just my floppy disk or everyone's, lol. I couldn't get anything out of Iolo; when I talked to him he just replied with a bunch of nonsense characters. And there were a couple of other NPCs that seemed like they should have had key quest dialogue that would do the same thing and then attack. I think I tried about 400 times hoping for a different result before I finally gave up, haha.

And then recently I decided it would be pretty cool to play all the Ultima games from the beginning in order. It still sounds cool. But I dl/ed an Akalabeth ROM and I literally CAN NOT figure out how to play the game. I mean, I'm old school - took BASIC in grade school and played the first Rogue and Hack - and this game still makes no sense. I move around a few times, die of starvation, game over, please insert 25 cents to continue. Then I dl/ed an Ultima II ROM and coudn't even get far enough to die of starvation, lol. The ROM came in several parts - well, when I fire up the regular game ROM it says "Please insert Player Disc". But you can't, because there is no disc, there's just another ROM file called "Player Disc" that I can't access. And trying to start the game with the "Player Disc" file accomplishes nothing at all. So I guess I'm really going to have to wait until I can afford a vintage computer and buy some old discs and REALLY get the full experience.

If anyone has some old Ultima PC stories or any insight into why I might never finish ANY Ultima game, please share!

General UO Chat / Parry/Bushido Question
« on: July 08, 2015, 08:23:10 PM »
No, it's not the same old "Which one is better?"... I try to self-educate whenever possible and I've read up on these two skills a lot but there's still something that I don't understand. I get the fact that when Parry and Bushido are both high, your chance of blocking with a 2-handed melee weapon is highest, your chance of blocking with a 1-handed weapon is a little less, and your chance of blocking with a shield is in the toilet. Buuut what I can't seem to clarify is this: when you're holding both a 1-handed weapon and a shield, will your character attempt to block with just one or both? I ask because in most cases the 1-handed weapon chance to block + the shield chance to block is about equal to the 2-handed weapon chance to block anyway, so there's not much drawback to using a shield with high Bushido/Parry if it works that way.

Television/Movies / Casablanca
« on: June 17, 2015, 07:02:28 PM »
So I finally got around to watching this cinematic legend and, while I think it was a good movie and would recommend it to any silver screen fans, I don't think Casablanca is quite the timeless classic its been made out to be. Has anyone else seen this? I'm really interested to hear what other people's opinions are on this movie. I love watching Bogie just because he was so obnoxious. I enjoy seeing how other actors and actresses interacted with and played off him. Besides that, I just enjoy older movies in general. To be honest though, I have no idea how "Here's lookin at you, kid." became a decades-long quotable quote. I know lingo was different back then but IMO this line sounded awful even coming from Bogart's mouth (ditto for when he kept calling Lauren Bacall "Slim" in To Have And Have Not"). What grown woman wants to be called "kid" by her man? Lol...

Receipes / Killer Pancakes
« on: May 30, 2015, 09:25:44 PM »
Okay, once again, we start off with store-bought stuff and tweak it into something better! :)

2 cups Great Value Pancake & Waffle Mix (They claim this makes 12-18 pancakes, but that's only if they're the size of silver dollars. I like BIG pancakes.)
1/2 cup cold water

At this point, what you add depends on the type of pancake you're making:

Plain/Banana/Chocolate Chip: 1 cup of milk + as much banana or chips as you like
Berry: 1 cup of milk, 1 tablespoon of store-bought honey, and a double-handful of fresh or thawed berries
Apple: 1/2 cup of milk, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1/2 cup of applesauce, and chopped baked apples (Fresh apples would be hard as a rock even after cooking; baking them is a must. Core them, bake them in an oven at 350 for 11 minutes, allow them to cool for a bit, take the skin off, and chop them up)

Whisk your lumps out and keep going until the batter is kind of frothy/bubbly. Should be fairly thick, not thin and runny.

Heat a griddle to 250 or frying pan to medium-low heat and melt some real salted butter in there. Ladle in a healthy amount of your batter and let it fry until the side facing up looks like it's fairly firm and has a bunch of little holes on it where bubbles formed and popped. Turn down the heat a hair, add a little more butter to the pan and flip once. The milk will give the pancake a great crisp to it while still leaving the inside soft. No matter what kind of syrup you normally use, try this: spring for some local honey and throw a tablespoon of it in a pot with your syrup. Heat it gently and stir constantly for just a couple of minutes.

Wine & Spirits / Allergic To Wine... Ever Heard Of Such A Thing?
« on: May 30, 2015, 08:15:14 AM »
It's horrible because I really like the flavor of a lot of red wines. But ever since I first sipped a glass, my experience was that I'd start getting a headache almost right away. Half a glass in and my skull will be pounding like there's a Doozer in there running a jackhammer. I never knew why, never bothered to investigate why either, just stayed away from red wine for the last decade or so.

Fast forward to very recently when my brother accuses me of being full of crap. A la "I never heard of that!". He starts Googling to "prove" that I'm lying and finds out that red wine allergies are not only real but not uncommon. It has to so with sulfites... Curse those sulfites. So, it's supposedly not uncommon yet I've never personally met anyone else with this particular issue. Anyone else out there suffer this besides me or have you even heard of it before?

Receipes / Barbecued Ribs
« on: May 30, 2015, 07:52:24 AM »
I'm one of those home hack chefs who tries recipes off of the internet and then tweaks them over time. This is the result of two separate internet recipes that have been used together and adjusted to taste.

I start off with some country pork ribs, the big fat ones. I'm not as much of a big fan of beef ribs but if you like those, I don't see why they wouldn't work also. Slow boil them in a pot of water with a liberal amount of chopped onion, chopped garlic, and 7 or 8 whole cloves (ground cloves works too but it's messier) for 30-35 minutes.

Mix in one bowl a small bottle of Kraft Original Barbecue Sauce, a heaping teaspoon of salt, a level tablespoon of black pepper, and 4 level tablespoons of garlic powder. Then I add cayenne slowly, a little bit at a time, stir and sniff. When it just begins to singe my nasal cavity, that's enough for me but this might vary for everyone. At any rate, be mindful of the fact that if you have leftovers and reheat these, microwaves seriously activate cayenne and it will be 2-3 times hotter than it was fresh. ;) <----- Note: Depending on how many ribs you cook, you might want to increase your total sauce amount but this works for about 4-5 ribs (one meal for me and my wife).

Preheat oven to 350. Cover the bottom of a baking dish in the sauce, place your ribs on top, and then cover them in more sauce. Cover dish with aluminum foil and place into the oven for 40 minutes. Turn the oven to broil, uncover the dish, and baste/broil the ribs a few times for another 10 minutes. Finally, drizzle honey across the top and let that sit under the broiler for another minute or two.

It's not much like what people think of as traditional barbecued ribs but I've been told by plenty of people that they're the best ribs they've ever had. My wife's grandmother even thanked me for them four times over dinner a few months ago and that was the first time anyone could remember her saying anything nice since 1953.  :)

New member introductions / Hello ScriptUO!
« on: May 30, 2015, 07:27:41 AM »
Greetings everyone,

My name's Joe. Just like most of you, I've been playing UO going on forever now. I started on the Atlantic shard in January 1999, quit official UO in November or December that same year, and have been playing on free servers most of the time since then. Years ago, I mostly played a thief because I wanted to enjoy the game but had no desire to either PK or to be PKed. Now I tried my hand at PvP and PKing and did well enough at both, but being good at it still didn't make it enjoyable to me. I didn't "get" until just recently that this simple fact meant I ought to have been playing on a Trammel server, which is what I've been doing for the past two years.

I play UO to relax. It's my mental "rest-place", if you will. My real life is more than a little stressful and tiring, and I need somewhere to go for a few hours to forget the day and just not think about anything. Usually that time is very late at night when I ought to be sleeping. I'm married (5 years) and have two sons (5 1/2 and 1 1/2) and in most ways they're the best part of my day. I am the same person in-game as I am out of it. Laid back and friendly. Non-drama, non-conflict, non-competitive. Even though I've been playing this game for the better part of sixteen years now, I'm still pretty new to the concept of power gaming. My reason for playing was never to be the strongest, richest, or anything-est, so I never bothered with scripts or even advanced macros. At this point though, I've been on the same server for long enough to want to tackle some of the tougher challenges and beef up my bankroll to buy the seasonal deco that staff offers for umpteen million gold.

I'll probably never be much of a scripter myself. I'd love to learn how; I seem to be better than most people with Razor yet it's obvious to me that scripts can be vastly more powerful. That said, if I used the very limited free time I have to learn scripting I'd never have a chance to play the game I was learning to write scripts for. I arrived here because I was chasing down a way to include spaces in a pet's name. It's something I've wanted to be able to do for a long time. Prior to following a link on Google to Redrum's pet name changer, I didn't even know this site existed. I noticed that there's a Bug section here, which might allow me the chance to offer the ScriptUO community a little something more than just thanks. I tend to stress test everything I encounter (to the best of my ability) and every now and then I find weak points. Nothing major or game-breaking so far but maybe interesting at least. I'll also make time to engage in some non-scripting discussion in the Casa De TrailMyx, since apparently I share common interests with a lot of folks here.

That's about all there is for me to say about me. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone. :)
