It idoes have hardware MPEG-2/VC-1 decode/encode, but you have to buy a $4/$2 license to use it.  To keep the price low on the units they didnt include the license fee initially... but due to overwhelming request are now offering it as an add on purchase as so many people have requested it.

And after I typed that, I found the MPEG-2 licensing thing.  Well worth the extra 2-4 bucks for me.
