Hd "Cadds"

Just wondering since the birth of the external USB cases if HD "Caddys" are useless. I have a bunch of old HD caddys I used for college years ago. All IDE based. One good feature I like about it is it has a key to lock it. However, should I upgrade the caddys from the dinosour ages? Or should I keep them?

If you can stuff an IDE-USB converter in there somewhere, then I would probably just put them in the dumpster.  Newer SATA drives run cooler, are larger, and are just generally more reliable.
