Khameleon:
I have a few old PCs laying around, I want to convert one into a Media server.
Right now I stream from my main computer, using roku XS using plex... I have too of the line router for hd streaming
a few questions.
Should I be looking at high  rpm hard drives?
Is there a better program then plex to steam to my roly?  I do like that it gets cover art and info automatically.

TrailMyx:
Take a look at this thread, Kham:

I love XBMC; I think it's far better than plex.

Also go through the RPi thread; there's some good information in there.

I ended up continuing to use my Atom-based HPC just because it's teny-tiny.  I have a NAS with ethernet support connected to my gigabit hub just using 2-5400rpm drives (3TB each).  My HPC takes all my media from this drive and I'm able to do 1080p easily while doing other things with my home network without bandwidth issues.

I never could get the RPi to do 1080p very well unfortunately.

I just put together a 9TB RAID with WD-Red drives (NAS-aware), so I'll let you know how those drives are.

Endless Night:
i use 2 old xboxes and a raspberry pi  with a lego case built by my son.   All running xbmc and streaming from a remote harddrive

Lego case?!?  I love when kids get industrious!  heh.  Post schematics!

I haven't had any more time to play with my Raspberry Pi (since we're getting ready to close on a house), but I have also had issues with the 1080P streaming...one day they'll get it worked out!
