Title: ScriptUO...?
Post by: Ramses on August 01, 2008, 07:58:52 PM
Hey TM,

How is ScriptUO coming? I like the main section and cannot wait to actually run some script within it.  :)

To be honest, I have been taking a bit of a break from the programming thing and have been actually playing the game a bit.  I'll get back to it in a little while, no doubt.  I started working on this in November of last year, so the timeline will most probably be protracted as I find time for this project.  Don't worry too much, I'm still having fun with it; if it's no fun, I wouldn't be doing it.  ;)

I've given the Elites a new version to play with.  I added a complete EasyUO language reference as well as a skills reference.  For them, I turned on script execution, the early version of the UI editor and probably more bugs than they need at the moment...

:'(

Don't worry, I gotta fix a couple of the bugs that 12X found and I'll release a new version.  Still lots of work with the parser and UI editor, so those will be turned off for the general public, however.  Just not reliable at this point....

Actually, I was going to publish my own updated list and reference it from ScriptUO.  So that request is in the works, but I'm going to host it myself....

Even better :)  It will be great to not have to dig around on forums to try and find a list of stuff and have it right at your fingertips within the development software!  I love it!

It'll have a user interface much like my world item cataloger (WIC), but will reference the main scriptuo MySQL database for the items.

Ultimately, that's the plan.  Right now, I can actually execute most EasyUO commands, but since I have no client interface, it's not very fun.... ;)

Not at the moment; it's easier to utilize existing documentation instead of having to conjure my own.

Would it be possible to just cache the web content ... and use it later offline ?

I wouldn't want to infringe on any copyrighted information.  Right now I'm only displaying content so it's fine.

I'd have to create all that information otherwise to be legal.

On EUO thier is a link to download the documentation files in multiple formats

Ya, good point, EN.  Rana, if you don't mind out of date information, you can use the html or Windows Help versions of these and just keep them local.

My personal favorite is the Windows Help version.  The online docs are Wiki since those are the only ones they seem to update anymore.

with your command referance it would be nice to add in the system variables links also. Mainly i am talking about the #findxxx stuff, like

#findkind, http://wiki.easyuo.com/index.php/FindKind

#findrep, http://wiki.easyuo.com/index.php/FindRep

...... Now as i am typeing this I guess its not all that improtant, most dont have anything we need to know, but some does,

Nevermine why didnt i just not post this???

I was going to do something like that, but to avoid another HUGE dropdown menu, I was going to associate a HELP context for each entry in the Watch tab.  Mainly though, I was gonna add that, but I got a bit lazy.  So no fear, it'll get in there some way or another.  Probably will just categorize them like they appear in the Wiki and have a multiple level drop-down like I did for the other Wiki stuff.

Another Minor Bug

The File menu does not inactive close  and the other file options when thier is no file open.

Selecting close after you have already closed the file will pop an error.

Well duh.  heh.  One of those corner cases.  Actually, that points out a couple other issues I see now.  Easy fixes, but still fixes needing a fix.  I seem to have a fixation to fixes; or in this case a lack of follow-through leading to a lack of fixes in the current "fixed" program.

Thanks for the bug report!

Ok, I've fixed a few issues that EN has come up with.  The new version is in the Elite section to be tested.  Perhaps will be posting the new version in a week or so.  Someone a while ago asked to be able to minimize the "debug test" output panel at the lower portion of the screen.  I have added that feature.

Also, I added a debug command that allows you to output debug information from your script to this panel.  The syntax is like this:

Code: [Select]

  set %var this , #SPC , is , #SPC , a , #SPC test
  debug %var

This will be nice for debugging purposes in that you won't have to do "display" or sysmsg outputs for debugging.

I'm in the process of change the memory structure to allow for easier visibility of variables in the debug tab.  This will also make the whole architecture much more thread-safe.

Well for the time being SUO is simply for development reasons only as the client interaction hasn't been setup yet.  However for development you will never want to do EUO coding ever again.  I do all my coding in SUO now and then for the time being run it in EUO at least until SUO gets client interaction completed :)

Is There Any Possibility To test the New Beta Version without be a Elite Member?
Suo is a Wonderful Program, I Like it and now i want to use euox as Rare as Possible.
But The Non Standalone Version and the non Nondisplay of System Variables make it Hart to Delete euox

Frankly there's not much difference between the released version and the beta version.  I only recently added Boydon to the beta list since he's been a community scripter since the beginning really and actually helped me out with a bit of code.

So for now we won't be adding anyone else, but I do appreciate your request.  I have a list of people that have expressed interest in the beta and I will add your name to the pool.  No guarantees, though.  When we start testing client interaction, we'll want to test the piss out of it and we will need a dedicate core of scripting individuals.

Oh, and to answer your question about additional functionality.  I do intend to add file handling, xml script configuration, and debugger output.

Actually, in the beta version of SUO, there is a debug command that will allow you to output debug text to the console.  So you can do this:

Code: [Select]
  for %i 1 5
    debug I love to count , #SPC , %i , #SPC , Ha Ha Ha!

now THAT's very useful... i always used display and that crap to debug my script...

If there's one thing that I have over Cheffe is having actually written 100s of very complicated scripts so I have a huge list of, "Gee I wish I could do this instead of that..."

So hopefully I can bring some of those new ideas to this whole thing.  :)

There is a beta version?

How can I be a beta tester?

At the moment, there isn't any difference between the released version of ScriptUO and the beta version aside from a couple bug fixes the group has found.  When I get closer to the next major release, I may add a couple more beta testers based on who seems to be scripting at all.  ;)

But running scripts is something that's a long ways away.
