Title: Movie Lines
Post by: Cerveza on October 30, 2008, 06:52:00 AM
Here's how this works.

One person starts with a line(s) from a movie. Another person replies with the Movie Title, and a line from another movie. It can be a one liner, or even a short dialog.

If they are incorrect, whoever correctly identifies the line can begin a new line. Please keep it restricted to English speaking movies.

Please, everyone knows you can search and find the answers. This isn't about proving how intelligent you are (web searcher), so please don't search.

*Oh bonus for identifying the speaker and the situation in the movie  ;)

First one:

*************************
She is startin' to damage my calm.
*************************

Ah, that's too easy!  Now that you made me a FireFly fan, I can answer that off the top of my head:

Serenity
Jayne Cobb was the speaker as he was becoming one with the craziness of River.  (great scene, BTW)

My Quote:

**************************
What landed you this job, pushing "pancakes"?
**************************
(deliberately un-Googleable... Muhahah)

When Hell Boy says to Myers "what got you this job pushing Pam-cakes" Pancakes is purposely said wrong referring to a two page story which appears in the "Right Hand of Doom" graphic novel.

Yes i googled it, but I did know it from the move :)

If you say one more thing,

Post by: Pearls on November 02, 2008, 03:31:56 AM
Since u present it on a platter, im gonna guess Deer Hunter ...

Only saw first few mins of movie, i think Robert de Niro plays in it? Old movie? Starts out in something like a factory or similar? Thats all i remember hehe.

Deer Hunter is a great movie for sure. There's a bunch of great actors in it. Some of it's tough to watch through not because it's boring but well....if you saw the movie then you know what I'm talking about it.

Anyhow...Pearls is pretty confident that he nailed the correct answer and threw out the next Movie line. Was that the right answer?

I'm gonna say Fight Club to Pearls movie quote in case he now has 'control'.   ;D
Title: Re: Movie Lines
Post by: Pearls on November 04, 2008, 05:29:25 PM
Not Fight Club...

4 pretty well known actors play in it, ill name some of movies of each actor...

- Austin Powers, Rat Race (Sxxx Gxxxx)
- Speed, Waterworld (Dxxxxx Hxxxxx)
- XXX, Saving Private Ryan (Vxx Dxxxxx)
- Rounders ( i love this movie ), The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Jxxx Mxxxxxxxx)

Its not the most famous of movies, but i liked that part where i quoted.

Shouldnt be extremely difficult...

Dear god, even googling it was a pain in the ass (never even heard of it)  You could told me the actual film title and I woulda said, "HUH?".  Way to pick an obscure one, heh.

Anyway, good way to hint if people get stuck (as I did)...

I admit defeat.  This time!

Are you kidding me!? :o

Yay for me I finally got one! ;D

That was a total stab in the dark I grew up in the 80's and that movie was huge and it just popped into my mind. But then again I could have guessed Ghostbusters.

I'm more into the Drama's than the comedies unlike most folks here. Guess you guys will live longer than me. Anyhow this is from of one of my all time favorite movies.

"Today they asked us to get rid of Joe.
Tomorrow they ask me to get rid of you.
Is that okay with you?
'Cause it's not okay with me.
All right.
Let's just forget about it.
Wanna go for a swim?
Yeah, let's go for a swim."

If no one gets it I'll throw out a few more quotes from the movie. I'm thinkin' someone will nail it though. ;)

Mine is so obscure that no one even dares to guess? Gawh.   :-[

I guess I was thinking movie quotes instead of just one line. Mine is more like a paragraph ain't it? That's breaking the rules isn't it?

Here is another qoute from the movie:

"You can always tell the winners
at the starting gate.
You can always tell the winners,
and you can tell the losers.
Who would've put a penny on you?
I'd have put everything
I ever had on you.
Yeah, and you would've lost."

The director of the movie is most famous for his 1966 Italian epic spaghetti western that world renown.

Post by: Ultima on December 28, 2008, 10:01:39 PM
What a great movie that was. That was George Kennedy's line wasn' it? He was great in that movie.

I was real sad this year when Paul Newman passed away. He's one of my all time favorites been in so many damn good movies. Loved him in "The Hustler" and "The Verdict".

I remember seeing a bio on him on one of the network channels where he really showed his class. He was a faithful family man who never cheated on his wife and the line "Why go out for a burger when you have a steak at home" showed alot about his character when it comes to marital fidelity.

Anyhow I remember the carwash scene...how can I forget.   :P

Wyatt: Just wanted to let you know that you're sitting in my chair.
Johnny Tyler: That a fact?
Wyatt: Yeah. It's a fact.
Johnny Tyler: For a man that don't go heeled you run your mouth kinda reckless.
Wyatt: Don't need to go heeled to get the bulge on a dub like you.

Wyatt: Go ahead. Skin it. Skin that smoke wagon and see what happens.

hehe  Good movie.

Super Slayer your supposed to throw out another movie qoute when you guess right to keep the thread moving. But you missed the boat so I will throw one out.

This is an easy one and a classic I still always get a good laugh out of this line from a great movie:

"Man, I spent six years living right on top of the
raunchiest whorehouse in the PI.
"You want numbah one *bleep*y-*bleep*y?
"Long time, short time  ! Cheap-cheap!"

Name that movie!  ;)

Ok...here is mine:

Sedgwick: Danny, do you speak Russian?
Danny: A little, but only one sentence.
Sedgwick: Well, let me have it, mate.
Danny: Ia vas liubliu.
Sedgwick: Ia ia vas...
Danny: Liubliu.
Sedgwick: Liubliu? Ia vas liubliu. Ia vas liubliu. What's it mean?
Danny: I love you.
Sedgwick: "Love you." What bloody good is that?
Danny: I don't know, I wasn't going to use it myself.

You missed my favorite Army of Darkness quotes...

Quote
Sheila: But what of all those sweet words you spoke in private?
Ash: Oh that's just what we call pillow talk, baby, that's all.

Quote
Duke Henry: You Sir, are not one of my vassals... who are you?
Ash: Who wants to know?
Duke Henry: I am Henry the Red. Duke of Shale, Lord of the Northlands and leader of its peoples.
Ash: Well hello Mister Fancypants. Well, I've got news for you pal, you ain't leadin' but two things, right now: Jack and *bleep*... and Jack left town.

and my favorite:

Quote
Ash: Why ya doin' this, huh?
Evil Ash: Oh, you wanna know? 'Cause the answer's easy! I'm BAD Ash... and you're GOOD Ash! You're a goody little two-shoes! Little goody two-shoes! Little goody two-shoes!
[begins to sucker-punch Ash]
Evil Ash: Goody little TWO-SHOES! Goody little TWO-SHOES! HEHEHEHEHE!
[honk honk honk]
Evil Ash: GOODY LITTLE TWO-SHOES! GOODY LITTLE...
Ash: [cocks shotgun and points it under Evil Ash's nose]
[nods head and shoots him]

Ash: Good. Bad. I'm the guy with the gun.

That really was Casablanca.

I don't think I have seen any rated X movies that had dialogue that I was supposed to pay attention to.  The ones I see are usually filled with subtle themes like these: chance encounter in waiting room that turns into sex, chance encounter in hotel lobby that turns into sex, chance encounter on beach that turns into sex, chance encounter at donut shop that turns into sex...

Greatest movie quote ever was from "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover". After finding out about his wife's affair the thief kills her lover. She finds him dead and gets the cook to bake his corpse in the oven which she then serves to the thief at gunpoint and says:

"Try the cock Albert, you know where it's been!"

Awesome!!

I'm not too big on Comedies but this one stands out. It's absolutely hilarious. I friggin' love it..name it:

Father: Alright,  if you're my son, prove it. Kill this stupid old bugger!
Son: I can't kill him! He brought me up! Just like a father.
Father: Oh, you mean he's beat ya and kicked ya and smashed ya in the teeth?
Son: No! He's been kind and gentle.
Father : What kind of a father is that? Kill him!
Son :No!
Father : Alright, I'll do it!"
