Off Topic / Never change the engine for this site!

TM - I dig the fact that this site loads up in no time at all on my iPhone.  Compare that to UOF or Stratics....

Never change it!

Scripting Chat / Anyone else finding EUO unstable?
« on: October 09, 2009, 07:16:04 PM »
Just curious: anyone else crashing a lot more with the latest build of EUO?  I'm crashing frequently on a lumber script that has been stripping bark off trees for years without a hitch...

General UO Chat / Darnit. Stupid Patch ruined my gold mine...
« on: October 08, 2009, 07:20:48 PM »
You know, for the first time in a decade, I was making gold faster manually than by scripting.  Easily 1M for less than an hour's work, consistently...

And then they went and made rare imbuing ingredients craftable.

Stupid EA.  The *one* thing that casual gamers can do to make easy gold, and they destroyed it already.

Because otherwise I wouldn't be able to afford to train imbuing.  My lands, I've burned through 5000 citrines just to go from 40 to 55.  I just bought 13K more, and by my calculation I've spent 2M already just on gems...not to mention the gold value of the oak boards I'm unraveling.

Irritating.  With training requirements like this, EA is actually encouraging scripting.  How else could people actually hope to train this frickin' skill?

Thank goodness for the imbue trainer posted on EUO...but if anyone knows of a cheaper method...

Off Topic / Anyone else notice this about TM?
« on: October 07, 2009, 04:24:47 PM »
I had a good chuckle just a moment ago when I noticed TM has 3 referrals.  Really?  Did someone really have the stones to complain about the person who runs this site, or did he just refer himself as a gag?

Either way: classic funny.

General UO Chat / Thorvald's Medallion easily obtained
« on: October 06, 2009, 07:06:56 PM »
In case anyone cares:  It appears to me that the Hydra in the Abyss gives a medallion every time.  In my previous Blighted Grove adventures, the medallion did not drop so easily.

*shrug* In case you care.  I like deco.

General UO Chat / How to guide: "Duo"-ing Medusa
« on: October 03, 2009, 05:59:35 PM »
Ordinarily, I'd post something like this over at UOForums, but i decided to stick it here, first.

Today, I proved to myself that I can "solo" big monsters without Ultima's help.  I didn't actually *finish* Medusa, but that was only because it was time to take my wife out to dinner.

Here's how I did it:

Templates: 1 x Tamer Bard Mage; 1 x Stealth Tamer; Cu Sidhe and Greater Dragon.

0) Set piles of bandages at strategic points, in case the worse should happen
1) Set the stealth tamer and his G Dragon in a corner
2) Mount the Cu Sidhe and annoy Medusa with Mind Blast until she unfreezes all the statues.  Kill the statues one at a time with the Cu.
3) Lure Medusa to the stealth tamer and invis yourself.  Let the Dragon aggro on Medusa
4) Stay two tiles behind the G Drag and vet it.  Dismount the Cu and mount an ethy.
5) DO NOT attack Medusa with the Cu.
6) When Medusa creates an evil twin, kill it with the Cu.  It takes a bit of fast finger jabbing, but you can vet and G Heal both animals quickly enough to keep them both alive.
7) Feed your pet a tasty treat or a deliciously tasty treat to raise stats, if you so desire.

This was slow, because it was my first time.  When I got medusa down to about 1/5 health, I noticed she was mortally wounding the dragon much more frequently, which prevented me from healing.  A Spellweaver might have a bit on an advantage, there.

A fully trained G Drag was only doing about 50 points melee.  I didn't have 120/120/120 bard skills, so I couldn't get discord running.

Two G Drags might be better, but then I would likely have died when trying to run from a rogue G Drag Evil Clone.

You don't even need EUO - I just used UOSA and 2D running on the same machine.

Let me know your technique!

Scripting Chat / Did someone tweak the questor to use the soulforge?
« on: October 03, 2009, 09:02:23 AM »
Just curious:  I see a large number of heartwood reward satchels at one of the public soulforges...Did someone tweak the script to also unravel?

Seems a little awkward to use a public soulforge, if so.

General UO Chat / Heartwood starting to liven up...
« on: September 30, 2009, 08:07:54 PM »
I still don't see anyone, but I'm hearing music and finding colorful, discarded backpacks...

For those who have returned:

-How are your drop rates?
-Did they change the quest structure to include any sort of cooldown timer (like the Tiered Quests)?

Scripting Chat / So...EUO is back...but no one's in heartwood?!
« on: September 29, 2009, 08:23:43 PM »
Interesting that the HW scriptor is updated, but I see no one in Heartwood except lil' old me...training Begging...

Do we have a sense that we are being watched, or are people just too busy in Ter Mur?

Scripting Chat / Begging script with unload subs?
« on: September 29, 2009, 08:03:18 PM »
Greetings.

As Halloween approaches, I've decided to get off my keister and finally train begging.  I grabbed a script from EUO and tweaked it to make it run in heartwood.  Unfortunately, it fills up a backpack quickly.

1) Can you still gain if you "don't have room in your pack?"
2) Anyone know of a total solution that unloads all the garbage in your pack?  It would be pretty easy to add those subs, but I thought I'd ask before I risk the wife's wrath by starting yet another pro bono coding adventure.

New member introductions / Re-introducing myself!
« on: September 23, 2009, 07:31:17 PM »
Well, I re-read my original introduction and found it sadly lacking...so, here goes a better effort!

I have been playing UO since the beginning.  Well, perhaps not *the* beginning, as I was not part of Alpha or Beta, but certainly since retail.  Ah, the halcyon days or yore...stolen house keys, day-long reverts, the works.  As many times as I died to a goat, there was still nothing more terrifying to me than another player.  My very first character, Rhymes with Orange, was mercilessly hounded by mysterious, evil monsters who repeatedly shouted 'Corp Por' in my direction.  I found the best way to defend myself was to hide in the bushes and leap from ambush to the defense of other players.  I actually grew rather proficient at this.

Then, some scoundrel put a price on my head.

From that point on, there was no point in venturing out of town.  Great Lakes, it seemed, was out to get me.  I retired in disgust, banking my 200,000 gold fortune and my black dye tub.

Fast forward to Age of Shadows.  I stumbled upon a website that discussed plant growing in UO, and I was intrigued.  Horticulture?  What sort of game had UO become?  Were players now content to pursue more peaceful paths?  Could I wander Sosaria in freedom again?  And what was this hyped dungeon they were about to release, called DOOM?

To my delight, I was easily able to secure a house on a new account.  I found myself so enamored of a lands where I could not be attacked without warning that I rooted around in my brain to remember my first account, and the password.  Eventually, I was able to recall both - and I also found that, while Rhymes with Orange and his 'fortune' were long gone, my veteran points had been accumulating the whole time.

I joined a guild or two and learned to spawn Champions and, later, Peerless - though I was never much use defending against those Corp Por creatures.  Time passed and my guild and spawn mates passed into history, leaving me to soldier on alone.  The only thing I had to remember them by was a Crimson Cincture.

Eventually, I hooked up with Ultima and introduced him to the wonders of Peerless hunting.  He, in turn, indoctrinated me into the ways of multi-account hunting.  Together, we expanded our knowledge of scripting - although he will tell you that I'm generally a bit better at making things work, and I'll insist that without him for inspiration, I'd never have made half the progress I did.

Now, Ultima too has left our ranks - leaving me again bereft of hunting companions.  Balhae and Sonoma echo for me, hollow without his shouting defiance and empty of our boisterous triumphs.  The Abyss is dark for me in ways it is not for other players.

I am Sampire.  I am Tamer.

I am alone.

I am NObama.

Feedback / Having trouble with "You have XXX unread posts" link
« on: September 21, 2009, 08:18:10 PM »
I'm having trouble using the 'unread posts' button at the top of the forum screen to view all unread posts.  On other sites, modeled on the same sort of interface, I can just click that link and all my unread posts queue up for easy viewing pleasure...

Is there something I need to do differently?

Thanks!

General UO Chat / What's with Veteran Reward Statues?
« on: September 19, 2009, 09:34:25 PM »
What is the fuss with Vet Reward statues, and why is there a post on herald telling me to redeed them?

I presume these are the character statues and not the statues of monsters and such?

Scripting Chat / Hacked OMG's taming script to kill with pet
« on: September 05, 2009, 04:59:46 AM »
OMG's taming script is my current favorite toy.

I decided to tame and bond a bake kitsune to help keep me alive when tamer training.  New characters is crappy LRC armor die regularly, believe it or not.

Then, I had to figure out how to slide in the pet commands I needed.  The intent is to make a new menu option and subs, eventually, but this is working for now and I'm notoriously lazy when I get something to the 'good enough' stage.

Add the following lines to sub killtamedpet, before the spell_killpet loop:
Code: [Select]
   *set #ltargetid %closeid
   *set #ltargetkind 1
   *msg all kill$
   *target %delay
   *event macro 22
   spell_killpetloop:

and at the end of the loop, toss in these inside the corpse checker:

Code: [Select]
   if #findkind = -1
      {
      wait 1s
*      msg all follow me$
*      msg all guard me$
      return
      }
   goto spell_killpetloop
   }
return

It's terribly slapdash, and it won't be that hard to sub those lines and link 'em to a menu option...if I find the motiviation...

I'm thinking the menu option will just be a check box that uses a pet in addition to whatever form of death you favor.  Too much work to create a seperate kill loop just for pets when the one that's in there already is so elegant.
