Absolutely! Don't upgrade!!

Hehe JK! (not really, but ok)...My honest advice is wait for Windows 7...there's really no point to upgrade to Vista Ultimate at this time. As for losing your data during upgrades, my advice is to get a nice external hard drive, backup and/or image your entire hard drive or at least backup the folders you care about, then always do a fresh clean install of an OS and copy your data back. I NEVER recommend "upgrading"!! I ALWAYS reformat and do clean installs. That way you're assured no issues (other than ones that AREN'T your fault)!

I have to agree with Maddog.  Vista is just a giant steaming pile of unfinished OS.  However, I've found Win7 much better in just about every aspect.  I've read the webz regarding upgrades and it seems that many people have a good experiences with upgrading.

Just wait for Win 7......  You can actually play with it for free.  If you have a spare computer or a virtual machine would be best.  I have a computer dedicated to Win 7 as the main OS and I prefer it now to my Win2003 partition.  My Magic Jack works finally as well.

Oh comon guys, vista isn't HORRIBLE if you have a nice computer, but I've been using Win7 since the beta hit, beta before release candidate 1, and I have to say it's like a vastly improved Vista... yea just wait for Win 7.  I'm using it now to write this, it's great. :)  EVERYTHING I've tried to run with it works.  Even older software.  The compatability mode actually works...  The ease of use enhancements are GREAT, like grabbing a window and shaking your mouse to minimize all windows... haha You'll like it.

I'm sure you could sell it to someone who doesn't know any better.
