Title: Size or speed
Post by: luv2luvlong on February 12, 2011, 06:27:42 PM
So I decided to go with an SSD drive to boot my OS and a couple of other programs.
my options are
a toshiba 256gig ssd

decent speed and I can put more stuff on it

or

2 intel 120 gig ssd in a raid configuration

Have you ever seen windows boot in 10 to 15 seconds? nuff said

any thoughts would be nice

edit

added 3rd option for mewonuo's suggestion cause I like it and found it under $600

It looks like you are going to be spending in the $500 dollar range, so one other alternative does come to mind.  How about the best of both worlds? :)

If you have an open PCI-E slot on your motherboard, the solid state pcie drives have come down in price a lot recently.  This particular one was on sale a couple weeks ago for $450...I wish I would have jumped on it when I had seen it.  Now I'm waiting to find something similar.

At 240 GB, and with read/write speeds of 700mb+, these things are insanely fast!  I just wish the 8x editions would come down in price sooner than later.

Glad you like it.  Even at that price, it's an amazing piece of hardware.

Might just keep an eye on them if you aren't in immediate need of one.  You can find some really nice prices every couple weeks.

If you remember how much hard drives of that size cost a few years ago, the price really isn't that bad compared to performance.

*looks at change jar*

Kinda dwarfs what you had your eyes on eh?  :D

Just don't ask me to help with the coin rolling.  Talk about tedious!  Take it to the bank, let them do it. :D

Yeah, I remember oh so well how much these drives were.  The first 64 GB SSD sata drive I bought was more than I care to remember.  I'm using a 120gb PCI-E drive currently, I can assure you that you won't be unimpressed.

This ended up being my choice
reason
With the 2 ssd drives in a raid I would have only had 120 gigs and it would have been slower due to a bottleneck in the sata pipe.

and this thing is blazing fast :D

thanks for pointing me in this direction MeWonUo
