My name is Demethar, and i die a lot

Hello, veterans of ScriptUO. I am Demethar, from Turkey.

I am a geophysician, but my current occupation is online editing. As a content editor, I write tech news, prepare reviews of smartphones, pc components and wearable gadgets.

While I love to write about tech, boredom is inevitable. Occasional MMORPG session helps me protect my fragile sanity. For my ScriptUO initiation, I chose to write my short UO history. It may get random, so please bear with me for a bit.

My official Ultima Online journey started Europa shard in 2001, but I had to leave OSI servers because of unbearable lag. None of my friends had a personal net connection back then, so we used to gang up in small internet cafes of Istanbul.

Our connections were so bad, high ping prevented us from enjoying usual stuff like mining, looting, crafting. Even the smallest things like opening the bank was a major drag. Forget PvP, it was a pipe dream for us.

In search of better pings, I got involved in emerging sphere/runuo freeshards. Most of those "free" servers were at closer locations, a compelling thing for many players like me.

After 3 years years of freeshard dwelling however, enjoyable sides diminished. Their unreliable nature was exposed.

Lack of stability was apparent. Most of them closed down after a few months of runtime. GM's didn't know their stuff. Owners abused their power. Some shards were arrogant enough to ask for real money, almost as much as OSI prices. And OSI pings were still too high, even in 2004.

So I got fed up and went to newer and supposedly more immersive 3D stuff. World of Warcraft, Dungeons and Dragons Online, Rift and many of those I can't remember their names anymore. You name it, I played it.
These 3D MMORPG's kept me busy for a good while. They offered better pings and I was getting paid enough to purchase better connections.

Things were going really smoothly. By the time it was 2011, I had built a WoW raiding guild with my close friends, dominated many PvP battlegrounds, hunted down bosses for dragon kill points.

While I mowed through hordes of mobs and players, I slowly began to realize that so called "modern" MMO experience is somewhat limiting. Chopping down trees, stacking ore, marking down runes, stealing from players and house decoration has what made UO special. These were imitated by many MMO titles but UO is still the best at said things.

It's like how our elders say. Better late than never. Having opened my second official account in 2011, I never looked back. And apart from a few unplanned breaks, I am enjoying the official game ever since.

Most of my chars are in Europa. I have a Treasure Hunter Tamer, a Sampire, a Gargoyle Thrower and a Mystic Mage. Oh I almost forgot to add my two crafter chars.

Most of my online time is spent searching and taming Greater Dragons and other challenging animals. But being a clumsy dude like me has some unwanted side effects, like frequent and unexplainable death in online games. So I spend most of my time taking dirt naps while attempting to lead-tame Greater Dragons.

There are so many vague and intriguing things in UO. There is too much to learn. And I feel it is impossible to become a master at all-things-uo. Much of the confusion is because of lack of proper documantetion. Find an answer to a question and a new problem emerges.

During my search to uncover secrets of UO, I stumbled upon scripting. I had never automated any aspect of the game up until 2014. Apart from using a few EasyUO scripts for mining/LJ, I still don't consider myself a hardcore scripter. However, I would like to give it a try and see what happens :)

By the way it is getting harder and harder to find a keeper GD nowadays, isn't it?

Welcome to SUO!! That was a great introduction! I would agree that finding a good GD is horrible, I am looking forward to the pet revamp coming up.

Awesome introduction!  Thanks for taking the time and we hope you enjoy it here.

If you do like farming GDs, give my Creature Evaluator a whirl.  I finally got around to linking the latest version here:

http://www.scriptuo.com/index.php?topic=13257.msg110136#msg110136

My character template I use is a stealth/Tamer with Honor for effortless taming and easy evaluation without much fear of becoming a dragon snack.
