Title: Kostriker! (Dark)
Post by: TrailMyx on June 28, 2008, 08:33:59 PM
I first had this one in Frankfurt, Germany for the first time and have been hooked on it ever since.

Kostriker (http://www.koestritzer.de/)

You can get it (at least in California) in your local Cost Plus World Market.  I looked at Trader Joes and they don't have squat.  I was just glad to be able to find it stateside.

It's not as heavy as those darks like Guiness (Irish) or Sheaf Stout (Australia), it's a bit sweeter but still has that dark malted taste.  Also it's not nearly as swartz as these two.

Interesting, may just have to try to find it. Yeah, you cannot compare a dark german beer with a stout, I'd have to find the beer before I say what kind it is. It's like comparing probably a Cabernet Souvgioungnng (sorry, don't know the spelling and nothing to look at) with a Merlot. Yes, both wines are red in color, but have unique characteristics.

Also, nice to see this type of forum.

Well we started something like this over at coders, and I always remember trying to think about what everyone was recommending.  Now at least the data will be available assuming the database doesn't purge it like it did with Hardyz post.  But yeh, if it tickles my fanny, it might get a forum!  ;)

I found this lastnight and had it. It's pretty good. Is similar to the Shiner Black, just has a little bit more "flavors" to it, not too much, just a little. Both good beers. Oh, and it was on draught, not from a bottle.

Draft!!?!?!?  I didn't even get it on draft in Franfurt, Germany!  You lucky dog!  ;)

Flying Saucer. Go to one here in San Antonio at times. Was in Houston and friends took me there, since I like the place. We then went to a soccer game, where bud light was drink of choice and then after that was a little bar.. again, bud light the drink of choice.  By end of night, I didn't know how many I had.. just think if all night it was Kostriker, I wouldn't of remembered my name by the next morning. Went to beerknurd.com, and well, they haven't built any locations West of me, so, if you're out east, look it up.

Another one to put on my BevMo shopping list.  I'm so glad they opened a store close.

Man, I never make it to Texas anymore.  Sounds like I'm going to have to do my homework to see if I can find that on tap in my area.  Microbrews are generally in power around SoCal.  But I have entered "Flying Saucer" into my PDA database.  Thanks, and hope you enjoyed your hangover.  heh.
