Hello All,
I started playing UO in middle school.. so 97ish? I have had my on years and off years. I don't go out as much any more so I've found myself getting back into the game (it has changed quite a bit since sphere55i) . I have a little C# knowledge (and I mean little) but I am having to learn it for work, I figured working with scripting in an entertaining method (such as Ultima Online) might be a good way to relate to things. I only play on a little shard now of about 20 active players but I was always more of a house builder/crafter/resource gatherer anyways. Hope to learn from you guys!
Thanks,
Miles

Sorry I forgot about posting my history and hit post. I used to play on a shard called Battle for Sosaria. It was sphere 55i and that is the UO I fell in love with. A few childhood friends got me back into it a bit after college about 8 years ago and it was a completely different game but I have found new interests with the game now. I think crafting has gotten a lot better and PVP has gotten much harder (for me atleast). I don't looove that imbuing has kinda replaced finding really good weapons in pvm but I'm learning to like that system. I look forward to chatting with you all!

Thank you guys! Keep up all the great work! What scripting language would you say UO scripting has the most in common with? Python/C# etc?
-
Neither honestly. Syntactically I've think it's a bit like Perl. Formatting isn't a real need so it's not like Python. It's not object oriented, but just a basic way of forming actions into a stream of time. There are no run-time errors flagged, so if you have a typo in your syntax, the line will just fail. This can make debugging tricky.

i dont think it is that much different from visual basic

Sounds good. I think i will just download a couple of them and play around with them to get a better grasp of how the scripts are put together. Thank you guys! I might have to get onto an OSI shard as it seems the majority of these are not geared towards free shards.

true but you might just get a trial account to test most things.
Also
There are a vast amount of tutorials on this site.
