Hello Everyone,
My name is Mike. I am along with you all and addicted to this wonderful game, Ultima Online.
I started this game back around end of 1998 to early 1999. The game was fairly new at the time, and this was a way for me to still feel close to my best friend Matt. He had moved away to boarding school at the same time my family also moved as well, so it felt like we were worlds apart, which as a kid is one of the worst feelings. Then came a game called Ultima Online. Not being a huge computer person or even a electronic gamer, this was new to me, but when we met up in our hometown that summer for a week he introduced me to this amazing game. From the second you logged in after hearing that 56k modem screech, it was like you were in a fantasy world. This was my introduction to MMORPG's. I soon learned this was a way despite being thousands of miles apart, that allowed us the able to still get together. We could talk over the phone (As computers at the time could not handle things like Discord, Teams, etc) and feel like we were in the same place, playing the same game. I remember spending HOURS and HOURS above Minoc chopping wood and mining, dreaming of the day we would be able to save enough to get a house to put all of our stuff in. He was always better at learning new things in this game and teaching me about them. I remember the first time he taught me how to build a campsite (tent, fire, etc). At this time we were playing on Sonoma, and the shard seems to have so many people on it. We played this shard for years until our eventual move to Napa Valley. We had so much fun scouring dungeon's, taming white wyrms, PvP'n in order/chaos fights all of Britania and sitting in Brit west bank selling pets to the highest bidder. As high school came to an end and both of us going off to college/work, Ultima fell to the back burner. Multiple years went by and while searching funny YouTube videos one night I came across a video about a game called "ultima Online". It was like a flood of emotions that came back, thinking of all the fun we had playing this game I quickly called him and began pushing to get back into the game. As years have passed, we both could not remember our account info nor enough info for UO to recover our accounts, so we resorted in started new accounts and began grinding once again. This was the 2nd time this game brought me back to my best friend. Years had gone by where we "talked" but never really felt the same, and before I knew it, we were back to our child selves staying up late at night, drinking chocolate milk by the gallons, and chatting away. We also had to relearn all new stuff to come to this wonderful game since we last played. We spent multiple years continuing this trend, but as life always has it, curve balls were thrown and UO went to the back burner once again. We were able to stay close this time as being adults it provided us the option to go see each other easier than it was when we were children or young adults. At this time with computers getting cheaper, gaming consoles on the rise, there were a TON of games at our disposal and years went by without playing a minute of Ultima Online. Then here games the global pandemic known as COVID. The world as we knew it changed almost overnight, and everyone started staying home and doing different things around the house. Him being in the first responder field always kept him busy during this time with work so it made it very hard to see each other. Here is the 3rd time this game has brought my best friend back to me, as we thought, now would be a good time to get back into UO since we cannot really go out or visit ea other, so that's exactly what we did. UO 3.0 has officially started. We played this game as we remembered it for multiple years until lately, we realized the game has kind of passed us by. There are now so many new "programs" and things to make this game more interesting and personalized. With coming back to UO with years of gap, the game feels like nothing like it did when we left, it has changed and evolved into a much more complex and interesting game with eliminating a lot of the...not so fun things that are required to be completed to enjoy the game to its max. With this comes the need to learn new things, communicate more with fellow players and communities still in this game. Still being on Napa, the shard is not dead, however it does not have the same populations as other shards, which makes this more difficult to achieve this. Upon scouring the internet, we came across this and I knew I wanted to be part of this community. To learn and grow and share of this love of "Ultima Online"
I am eager to learn new things and pass on anything I have learned to anyone else that's in my shoes that is looking to join the game for the first time or even come back for the 2nd, third or even 4th time in their life. I am not the best with introductions as I am sure a few others can relate, but I really hope to be able to join the community here. I am pretty much a open book, so if anyone has any questions, I will do my best to answer... Thank you again.
