I have been playing around with woods and which wood to use and which bow to make and so on, and I stumbled upon this for sale on Atlantic.
Crossbow
Exceptional
Weight: 5 Stones
Velocity 32%
Balanced
Hit Stamina Leech 30%
Swing Speed Increase 40%
Damage Increase 40%
Lower Requirements 20%
Physical Damage 100%
Weapon Damage 18 - 22
Weapon Speed 4.5s
Range 8
Strength Requirement 28
Two-Handed Weapon
Skill Required: Archery
Durability 25 / 220
How can I make something like this?
-
Ash wood with a Heartwood kit.
Not sure the max speed with Yew kits, you'd have to look that up.
Ash adds +10 SSI and Lower Req 20%.
To be perfectly honest, I'll sometimes dump those LOL.
-
what do you consider an outstanding PvM bow?
-
Personally? For PvM I prefer a regular bow or a yumi, for the range mostly.
Swing Speed 30+
Hit Lower Defense 30+
Damage Increase 40+ (exceptional will be 40 with 100 arms lore)
I like to have Mana Leech so I can spam Lightning Strike, but Stamina Leech is nice. Life Leech shouldn't be needed, I don't plan on getting hit much.
Hit Lightning is sweet, Fireball is nice. Velocity isn't all that.
I don't like area effect stuff... It draws unwanted attention.
Balanced is more a PvP thing. If your doing a hit/run PvM archer you don't need pots.

still using ash and a heartwood runic?

Not sure if a Yew will get you 30 SSI
Ash is 10 SSI guaranteed... for a possibility of 40SSI

cool. thanks Cerv!

Oh showing off eh? I'll have to post up my composite... the one with Velocity AND Lightning AND Balanced AND 30 SSI ;)

ALSO: USE REGULAR WOOD WITH THE KIT. So that you can ENHANCE it after creation. :)

SSI10 ...rubbish

Twinkle McNugget makes a good point. With metal items you fail most of the time when you try to enhance, but with wood this is not so much the case. I find that I can get better items working with regular wood and picking and choosing which to enhance afterward -- plus you can save more for unwinding later if you make them with regular wood.
-
ok, now i'm really confused.
So, I make a bow with regular wood and a HW kit, then i enhance it with ash and a regular kit?
-
PVM bow, High Swing Speed, High Damage, Hit mana, Hit Lower D, Hit Stamina, Hit Spell.
Balanced is always nice, means you can chug pots easier. Higher Dex = Faster Swing, HIgher STr = More Damage, Refresh pots = You swing more.

Ok, I'm going to question this thinking now.
If I'm making regular bows I have 100% chance of making exceptional items. Lets say I'm using a Heartwood kit, so intensities can be 100%.
Now I make this AWESOME bow with 50% Lightning, 50% Velocity, 50% Lower Defense, Balanced and 30% Swing Speed.
If I made it with ash wood, it would be at 40% SSI.
If I made it with regular wood and enhanced it, one of two outcomes.
1 - It has 40% SSI, just like if I had made it originally out of Ash.
2 - It's destroyed.
So what did making it out of regular wood accomplish for me? The way I see it, only a chance to destroy the bow.
I'd like to know the reasoning behind making a bow out of regular wood, then chancing loosing it while enhancing....

Rofl, I like Cerveza's Thinking. I ALWAYS USE ASH! As An Archer pvp'er till the day I die, Swing Speed is my #1 Add on a bow. It could have Double Spell, Balanced, Hld, Swing 10, and 40 di, and I'd still say... nope... not using it.... In fact, I have 3 Crossbows EXACTLY like that!
-
C,
You are right, if you are looking for a PVP bow SSI is the most important attribute and you should make them with Ash. Based only on experience doing it and nothing math related, the chance of breaking them is a lot less than metal items and I like doing it with wood because then I can tailor items a bit more. Admittedly though, you are right that the marginal benefit of adding a little hit increase or damage increase to a bow here or there is probably not worth the chance of destroying the perfect pvp bow. Everything else being equal, I prefer to add some HCI to a bow than give it 10 SSI if it doesn't already have 30SSI -- but that is not where the real value is...

I guess if you don't need the speed, like making Shortbows for PvM, you could make them with normal wood, then evaluate each one individually to see if you want more speed, hci+damage, or maybe a random stat on it.
Other then that I'd say make em outta ash and fugedaboudit. Making Heavy Crossbows your ALWAYS going to want more speed, so even if you make a 30% SSI your still going to go for 40%. So just use Ash in the beginning.

On the subject of crafting things... Anyone recommend a way for me to make a spell channeling Elemental Salyer Ax (Hatchet/ax or any ax type)
Or should i just wait for the old imbuing to kick in and add it that way.
