Title: LOL
Post by: UOMaddog on September 09, 2009, 09:19:07 PM
Thought everyone might enjoy this post on the EUO forums. In case you didn't know, CEO is now withholding EUO to the general public for 3 days after the new version is released. Only members of his Alexandria freeshard will get it on "release day".

Quote from: BritBare
So CEO, you say that your objective is to get people playing on your shard, yet you've explicitly stated that all they have to do is create a character and click a link at luna bank. I do not see how this really accomplishes anything. If anything, it creates a bunch of unused accounts taking up server space.

Stunts like this are exactly why people enjoy using ScriptUO, which will be fully functional in the near future. EUO is not the only program out there. Most of what can be done in EUO can be done with Razor as well as with UOAI and other projects. EUO has the potential to become a truly great platform, but because both you and Cheffe are unwilling to truly make it OPEN source, you're tying your own hands and sealing your own fates. You try to pretend that you are all "noble" here since you don't allow scripts that take advantage of skill timer avoidance, or other such things, but EUO is just as much cheating as any skill timer avoidance or dupe or anything else. You can think you're a "Robin Hood" all you want, but you're just as much a cheater as any generic speed hacker. Remember, the fact that you host your own server is a direct violation of the terms of service of UO!

Just my two cents....

Ouch!  Hopefully BritBare isn't holding his breath for SUO to become completely functional.  He'll be floating on the surface of the fishtank and will have to be flushed.  Poor BritBare.  :)

Personally I dont like the way they are going about things.. but thier again its not my code, im not doing the support, in fact im doing nothing but using it .. really when you think about it waiting 3 days is no big deal.  If thats all thats asked of me its a pretty small price.

When you have no other options  rember the old phrase .. "beggars carnt be choosers"

I think initially people got the wrong idea about the situation.

People were assuming that EUO was updated, but only available on Lexia.

The truth is that EUO is not close to being updated because of MAJOR changes in the client. Cheffe is working on it. THEN once it gets updated they will offer it on Lexia first and make it public THREE days after that.

Thats my understanding of the situation....

Yeppers... wait 3 extra days for general public is what was intended.  The pot on the boards there didn't read well.  I would be really upset if I had all my scripts hosted there but that is obviously a non issue.

I'm on board with Cheffe's, "It's free, you'll take what I give you." policy.  I appreciate his work even if I don't like his attitude. :)  Every one of us uses EUO.  I don't feel the need to bitch about how he chooses to release the best program for UO ever made... :)  As long as he still does. :)

People have become just too accustomed to FREE as in air kinds of support with EasyUO.  This is a good wake-up for those people who have gotten used to using any uber-useful freeware.  I still think EUO should have been charging for this thing; I personally donated over $200 to EasyUO once and paid a monthly subscription fee to Alexandria just to show my appreciation to the projects over there.

I bought them lunch.  40 bucks.  That's as much as it's worth to me.  40 dollars for a tool is good dough!

I wouldn't Mind working on my own program, but I have no Idea where to begin. Going to start taking some programming classes in the spring. The first semester is going to be boring as hell though.....

However, it didn't take them too long to delete the posts referencing ScriptUO.  Here I come and defend them, and they do that....  Why am I surprised?  I'm not.  At least I can bitch about it without worrying about my post being deleted.  (unless Cerveza deletes it....)

Yes,  I can't believe he hasn't charged anything.. not even a donation button or a year membership.  or huge updates like this one, it would not be unreasonable to get a couple buck or even a buck a head on updates.  I'm glad he does what he does and will not post a complaint there ever since he has given me years of fun and a free tool.

Well we'll be waiting a good while it seems since Cheffe now has the swine flu or something. Been ill for the past 7 weeks and even though they've hinted it'll be done this weekend I doubt we'll be seeing it any time soon. Shame, now would have been the perfect time to have released a fully functional version of ScripUO.

Frankly, I'd be scrambling to make the necessary changes to ScriptUO also.  Right now the client hooks for just about everything is broken.  I'm kinda glad SUO doesn't work with the client because everyone would be directing their poisonous wrath at me.   :)  Hey, I'm just an editor man!

Funny how people get all pissed when you make them play the game for real. I miss EUO as much as the next guy, but how can you complain about free ware.

I'm actualy amazed at how useful the new additions to the crafting gumps are. I was dreading making potions kegs and stuff to stock my vendors when this all happened and I can't say I've missed EUo in that reguard. Lockpicking is on a hold until it's back up though. I think I'll give up lockpicking before I spend hours picking > locking box > and so on -_- Maybe 50 trys a day wouldn't be so bad.

I have been playing the game off and on since 3 weeks after it came out (more on then off). I got ST to start playing UO about 3 years ago. Up until last June I did EVERYTHING by hand. Hell, I had a 120 tamer, 2-120 smiths...almost all of my chars had 120 skills all done by hand. With the help of EasyUO and SUO I was able to develope even more 120 chars, plus add 120 chars on other shards. Not being able to script right now is a pain, but I still remember how to do everything by hand...there is no way I would stop playing just because I hafta do it by hand.

Even if we have to wait a couple of weeks or a month to get our scripts back, is it a big deal? Most of us that have been scripting prolly have HUGE stockpiles of all the consumables anyway. I know myself I have over 2M ingots, 1000's of mineable gems, White pearls, and LJ by-products out the wazoo. Settle in and do some clicks...our scripts will be back soon enough :)

I bet your 100% right Cerv.

I dont know how much work is involved with updating EUO, but I dont think I personally would be in any huge hurry to do it, we all know that OSI will prolly be adding a patch a week, or more for awhile until they get some problems ironed out.

2mil ingots lol sexy... By reading everyones posts it's like I'm the only one that doesn't afk while scripting? lol The day I don't afk is the day a GM catches me I rekon now. I've not been playing long and just been collecting bods for the sake of having them. I think I may follow suit on what someone else mentioned and start handing them in... I tried boat mining lastnight and got my insides handed to me by water elementals lol. It's th second time I've tried and atleast I actualy got to the mining spot this time -_-

I would recommend a low used uncharted mountian side and a nice fire beetle for mining a lot easier than fighting water eles :)

I didnt even use a beetle. Used Mwinc's recall jacker, a VERY quiet fel mountian location and ran 23.5/7 for weeks and weeks :)

Prior to OSI hating my miner... I used to mine valorite in Destard and I had 4 spots I could mine from the corner of my house, one of which was Valorite. But they decided that stealth/miners shouldn't exist, so all thats gone now.

I *could* adapt the house miner script to recognize incoming threats and hide me... but why? What use are ingots now days anyways? Why not just recall mine in Tram...

Ingots are still nice if you have a ton of runic hammers (I do) so you can just make and unravel all in one go. As far as recalling in Tram...safer yes, but I like double the ore.

Post by: Cerveza on September 11, 2009, 09:47:45 AM
Eh, lot less risk mining in Tram.

I used to stealth mine in Destard while PK guilds were doing champ spawns there LOL. Loot some of their kills in between digging up ore.

Man I sure wish they would at least share the EUO wealth with each other over there... Rely on ONE person and guess what happens.....

Well I normaly mine in Fel and make about 2k of iron alone in 15 mins... boat mining, because of that long stretch of mineable mountian north of minoc you are meant to be able to triple that and I have a fire beetle and just use a bag of sending to transport the ingots to bank so I don't have to stop. I've tried recall mining but I just didn't find it as efficient as manualy doing it. I don't afk script so the gains I would have during the night doesn't apply to me. Really I just wanted to try something different. I typicaly don't mine more than I need though I try and keep afew k hidden around the house so I never run completely dry.

Buahahahahahaha

I Don't even use my own Miner..... And it has A login/Logout Feature that can be used to get around server down/up (still needs some love though). I really need to just go back into the code and add in some more defense/Sensing of Pker's, Moving into your House, attempting to move to a different 8x8 if possible after you mine all the 8x8's within reach dry.... a few things.....

It might not be the fastest miner out there but I like it. Recall to mtn, dig, recall home, dump ore into chest, recall to mtn, dig, recall home, dump ore into chest...over and over. I think it ran like a charm. Every few of days I would get
to 10M stones of ore in the chest and I would stop and smelt it then go on. Sure I got killed by a ogre or etten now and then, no big deal..rez and go on. ATM I have over 2M iron ingots and prolly about 600K or better of colored ingots. Dont sell this script short. Its easy to set up and works like a dream!

Hahaha, I wont sell the Script SHort, but as of Right now I'm pretty sure It still has "A Few" Goto's Out of Subs :)

Theres 1 in sub Droppy (Counting as I go. Swore I've removed all of these like 12 Times. ) I didn't learn that Goto's Were bad in Subs until 2 Years after I started Scripting. (First Programming Ever)

Sub Shovel

Okay, So there is only Two..... I'll be sure to Give it some Major Love once Easyuo Is back up.

Sad thing is, This thing can be approved Right now, But I haven't Submitted it yet because of the reasons I mentioned Above.
