My son loves steak. It's early dismissal today and I have some comp time, so surprising him and going out for steak lunch.
Where should we go?
I leave in about 50 mins... quick poll... I'm going where ever has the most votes ;)
-
Its everywhere, but I love Mortons.
-
Don't have a Lone Star here but we do have a Texas Roadhouse which happens to be my favorite ribs in the area (other than my own) so I voted for it. Plus I like their bleu cheese salad dressing and rolls :P

25 miles, that's doable... St. Louis... hmmm..... pass.
OH and the fact they open at 5pm.... cmon Paul! I got like 30 mins here.....
Outback isn't on the list cause they open at 4pm.

We have an Outback here but why bother when you have Texas Roadhouse nearby. There are better steak houses than Texas Roadhouse, especiall ythose that aren't chains, but The Outback ain't one of them! ;)

Denny's for you, bud!

Thanks Cerv. I really needed to waste 30 precious seconds of my life on your lunch. :)

Anywhere with a good Fillet Mignon
-
I prefer a strip. Filet is too soft for me and doesn't have as much flavor...
-
i say screw the steaks and get a big ol' burger with bacon onions cheese and steak marinade on it. now thats whats good right now
-
New York strip is simply the tastiest cut of meat. Not too much fat, but enough to give it marvellous flavor. Ribeye is too fatty, fillet is too meaty and void of taste, etc.
And yes a good burger cooked properly can be just as luscious.
-
100% Agree with you. Save the filet's, I order a NYStrip every time.
I waited tables at steak restaurants for all ten years of college (yes I got more than one degree) and I always loved when the little promies would order a strip. I would cut off the half they touched and build myself a frankensteak out of the remains. Always loved the kids afraid to eat in front of each other.
Actually remembering that kind of skeeves me out now. No more eating out of bus tubs for me...

NYStrip 100% Just not a better cut of meat!
-
so paul i was just reading what your wrote and all i have to say is wow haha. i guess i never realized that was done or maybe you are the only haha. but hey you never know i hope it was good lol

As long as you got a good place that knows how to marinade it and uses something good to marinade with it is excellent. We got a place by us called "The Blind Fish" they specialize in Steaks and Lobster/Crab. Live Lobster and all that. An 8oz Fillet there is like $16 but well worth it. I love the marinade they use. And I love plain steaks, I wont put A1 on any steak, ruins it IMO. Instead I love a good marination and rare...
Wipe its nose, slap its ass and put it on the plate!

Give me a medium rare steak, lobster tail, and some grilled shrimp and I can die happy.

My son loves steak.
good kid :)
my favorite cut of meat is a good old skirt steak. purple and bleeding is fine by me ;)
Wipe its nose, slap its ass and put it on the plate!
Coragin, my dear the saying is
"knock its horns off, wipe its nasty ol ass, and slap it down on the plate"

Knock its horns off, wipe its ass and nose slap it on the ass then slap in on my plate. I dont mind if its still mooing when I cut into it...

At most restaurants, I will get the NY Strip, however, if you ever go to Longhorn Steakhouse (personally my favorite) then you definitely need to get Flo's Filet. It is amazing. Just naturally juicy, not a single spot of fat, and combined with their mashed potatoes, just out of this world! Definitely worth the $22 or so! (plus a good Long Island)

Guess I am old fashioned....I still love a LARGE T-Bone better then any other cut of meat...why not have 2 GREAT tastes at once...Strip and Fillit!!!

Anybody ever read Lee Iaaccoa's book?? In it he talks about Henry Ford Jr. Eating a hamburger every day in the company dining room...but yet complaining about eating hamburgers anyplace else...said everyplace but HIS company's dining room had NO idea how to cook a burger, and they all tasted crappy everyplace else. One day Lee decided to go talk to the chef and see what he did different for Henry's burger that it made it so good. The chef told him it was EASY to make a GREAT burger for Henry...and the only thing he did different was start by putting a NY Strip through meat grinder for Henry's burger!!!
