I am going to have two small office locations starting in about a week and I am looking into ways to manage the phone system.
I looked at Skype and it doesn't seem to have a lot of functionality and I don't like the way their software installed itself on my computer, stuck itself into the registry and the startup without giving me options and doesn't have an un-install feature.
I started a GoogleVoice account which seems kinda cool. It allows me to have a number that I could choose from a bunch of options and that I can redirect to any other number(s). It also has a bunch of voicemail features. Unfortunately they won't let you put more than one number into the account so I can't have two local numbers for my two locations.
I may just set up a local number for my new location that I re-direct into the google voice number so that I can manage them both together.
Anyone else played with this before?

I played a little with Google Voice but it wasn't what I was looking for.
I already mentioned in the Shoutbox but since you started this thread I'll say again, I purchased a year of Skype for around $30 and I love it. What features seem to be missing? I find it pretty feature-rich.
I was looking for a straight "softphone" though. I used to use one provided for free with my Vonage account but they started charging $9.95/mo which is just plain stupid.
What you are doing being a bit different though you may want to consider MagicJack.

You could get a couple MagicJacks, TM would be the guy to talk to, I think he uses the jack.

We have a local landline here, for $15.00 per month, and a magicjack for the long distance, which we just love. SO much better and cheaper than the one offered by the cable company
