Post by: Newsman on January 11, 2011, 12:58:18 PM
120 Mage  (+20 mage on crystalline, -20 on mage wep) = 120
120 Resist
120 Eval Int
100 Focus (+20 focus on crystalline) = 120
120 Mystic
80   Poison
60   Necro

All purpose, beast mode, mage fighter.  Lots of utility in group fights.

It's one of the best templates for field fights.

That's nice for sure.. I'm fairly certain you wouldn't need all 60 Necro just for wraith though.. If you were an elf character, might be better to go 40 Necro 20 Spellweaving... but certainly for human I'd just go 60 Nec.

Ah the 60 necro is guaranteed casting of evil omen.  As for playing an elf mage char in pvp.  Just say no to elves.

Looks like a nice template.  Have they ever changed the distance vs poison level from the way it was?

ie.. Having to be within 2 squares to cast DP on someone?

Would it be better in PvP to go with 60 Spellweaving? Or necro for doing champs in wraith form?

60 spellweaving  doesn't offer that much utility.  I'd rather have evil omen.  Spellweaving+mystic and mage is alot of spells and in the long run, spells just go to waste. You can only cast so much.

Good solid template.

I would love to know how it is working. I love playing the Mystic Mage in PvP. I have one with 120 Med 120 Focus and I am trying to figure out what to put in the place of Med. It is for my group fighting red. I bet that would work well.

I decided to make mine a "Protection" Nox/Myst/Mage who runs with protection at all times.

I put 15 Physical on the Plane sword instead of DCI to help offset the protection penalty, and I put 15 resist on the bracelet for the same reason.

Resist is at 100 while under protection.

Spell casting is slow (of course) but uninterruptable. So far I've just been doing mostly support with fields and Cleansing Winds.

Armor setup is:

Faction Kasa
Faction HotL
Imbued Gorget/Arms/Gloves/Legs
Ring - Crystalline
Bracelet - Imbued 15 Resist, 25 EP, 20 LRC, 5 LMC, 6 Int

And the rest of the stuff giving me....

85/75/70/75/70, 100 LRC, 40 LMC, 16 INT, 13 Mana, 15 MR, 20 HPI, 7 HPR, 32 SDI, 40 DCI, 25 EP

I went back to human so I can cast bees and the other low level Spellweaving stuff.

I'll play more in champs and some sparring and pvp to see how viable going without FC/FCR will be. For a support char it's very survivable as is.

You know the Cure/Heal awesome macro, right?

It's interesting but I don't think you need it.  But this is most certainly a play style preference than a hard better or worse choice c.

No doubt. I run a Necro/Mage most times in pvp and toggle protection on/off depending on the situation.

Better mages will use FC/FCR at all times. They have the timings down so they suffer very few interrupts. I'm just not that good. Protection offers the char the assurance that when I want a heal, I'm getting that heal.

It does make combo's very VERY slow to cast... but it's not really a solo style setup. There's not much use for Nox on a solo char. Everyone you run into will have pots. But with the Nox fields, this can be a blast in a good ole field fight.

Actually, on a nox mage, you'll want to run around with shatter potions.  You'll ruin someones day.  Also, toggling protection based on the situation is always a sign of a good mage,  many a mage has died because they didn't know when to go in or out of protection.

I'll check out these shatter potions! Sounds like more fun!!

I've learned to love conflags with my red. Get some blue trammy on tracking and light them up hehe.

I'm really not all that good of a pvper, but I understand the fundamentals. I guess that puts me above quite a few LOL.

I'm pretty comfortable saying I'm in the top 20 best pvpers left in UO.  Most folks are just absolutely awful.  Shatter potions are the wave of the future.  I bought like 10k of them when I saw how useful they can be.
