Newcastle brown ale

Ok, so I had never had one of these before.  I was at Outback one evening and was lamenting the fact they don't carry my beloved Sheaf Stout or even Guinness any longer.  So Newcastle was the "dark" beer they had to offer.  At first it was a bit of a shock because it's nothing like what I was expecting.  After I got over the initial shock, I did enjoy it.  So much so that I've kept it around in the fridge next to my normal low carb offerings.  (Newcastle is *not* low carb..)

It's got a subtle hint of chocolate dark (I said subtle), and it's sweeter than most ales.  It's not "hoppy" at all; I just don't like the bitter bite of too much hops.  In the end, I could probably drink these all day long.  It's probably the most refreshing beer I've tried in a long time.

I could teach you a lot with beer     I never thought of any subtle chocolate taste in it, but then, i would say if you like guiness, you'd really like Young's Double Chocolate Stout.... anyways, this is a decent beer (Newcastle) and where you talk about having it, well, my brother liked getting this at the very same place  

One thing with a lot of the ales from England is that they like them a bit, more, bitter. Hince why there are a lot of ESB's (Extra Special/Strong Bitter). If it's not an ESB, it's more of a creamy ale, but that's getting to scottish ales.

Overall, like a said in here, a decent beer, well, above decent. I would buy it at times, so, that says that I like it too.

Oh, I completely agree with your assessment of Young's Double Chocolate Stout.  I used to get that at a place called Fat Jacks in Albuquerque; I haven't seen it here. I guess you have to drink a few Newcastles to start looking into the subtle things.  Chocolate?  Well I guess the sweet combined with the darkened "burnt" taste. Dunno, certainly hasn't seen an chocolate malt.. hehe.  My first homebrew was a nice dark chocolate malt; I have been sold ever since.

Yeh, Newcastle is a kind of oddity for an English beer.  I don't find it bitter in the least; it kinda gives me the sensation that I'm drinking a Coca Cola.  That is until the little birdies swirling around my head tell me it's nite nite time.

newcastle i one of my all time favorite beers... I have been sloshing them back all over the planet for close on 25years now and dont intend to stop..

I also love the fact that you get a TRUE pint bottle even out here in the colonies... err i mean the USA haha

Woo a beer connoisseur as well? I'm a self proclaimed beer connoisseur, not that i necessarily remember how they all taste but I've tried on the order of 400 kinds of beer and I haven't met too many I didn't enjoy. Newcastle is a gooder, dark but quite a "thin" beer not as thick/cream as some of the dark stuff but its nice. I'm more of an India Pale Ale fan myself... Alexander Keith's for example!

Oh grasshopper, you have much to learn. Newcastle <> dark    It's more of an amber ale. want a dark ale/lager, try Shiner Black, 1554, ummm.. Kostriker, which 2 of those have been reviewed in the beer forum. Now, if we go dark with thick/cream, your're starting to talk about stouts and porters, scroll up to a mention of Youngs Double Chocolate Stout. Porters, sorry, that's an area I lack.  I also lack IPA, not been my taste, they just miss it a little. Konesky, I'm thinking you probably like ESB's too... Fullers ESB?
