That's what could very well happen if employees continue to use sick leave like vacation to take one day off.  Last week alone there were 5 people who took one day of sick leave.  I seriously doubt that all 5 were sick or had a medical appointment which is what sick leave is actually supposed to be used for.  The use of sick leave is getting very close scrutiny and there are rumors it could very well be eliminated if people continue to abuse it.

So the joke is having a form filled out prior to being sick or injured

My company as gone to a PTO (paid time off) policy so we have one big pool of vacation hours.  Makes it way easier than determining X sick days and X vacation days.

PTO has some advantages. I like the sick day thing. But if they are going to make it a hassle, I'll be sick every Monday for the rest of my career.

Yes it is a BOSS Monster and very powerful and can kill with its deadly doctor reciept paper in one swipe. Carries 20000 hp and does around 150 damage per hit.

That's what we have here now that we've been acquired. We were given an extra five days above our former vacation time and now everything comes out of a single PTO pool. Pros and cons but neither matter since it isn't a democracy and I still have a paycheck.

Thats just ridiculus... what is that place still in the dark ages.  I would have throught that by now sick leave would have been reanamed Sick/Personal Days as it has been at practically every place i have worked.

Lets not forget if you have kids/grandparents/a dog /hamster or fish  and they are sick someone has to take a day off to look after then.

Besides most places caluclated acrued sick leave according to the hours you have worked.. so its a work related benifit... IE you have earned it .. if its a benifit you have earned what is the issue.. sounds like you got a miss guided middle manager who wants to look good to his bosses by being a P**k to everyone else...

Yep, that's pretty much how I see it also. We accrue the sick days over time, it is a work related benefit, but if you leave the company, you loose those sick days.

And I agree with your assessment of the situation.

Exactly what EN said.  This is what i have always been used too.

we get pto days at work, at least used to.  Used to get 7.3 hours every two weeks, in order to save money and not lay anyone off they reduced pto to like 2 hours a pay period.  Keep in mind thats for sick time and vacation time.  Its rediculous.  What also sucks is that when its slow they want to send you home without pay.  So you either use what pto you have to cover the time off or you dont get paid.

Trust me could be worse.
I get no vacation time, no sick days.
If i'm working I'm working and there is no one else to do my job, so if I'm sick
I still have to go to work (nice thing is someone else drives me to work).
My workday starts at 7am and ends at 2am, 4 to 5 days a week.
If I'm hurt (like now) there is no paycheck.
On the plus side though I do get to travel, everywhere.
It seems we are all just debt slaves.
