AHHH the good ole D&D parties !!!  I prefered to play a mage and then when they came out with multi class after AD&D then it was Mage/Thief :)

I always played single class characters.  Either magic user or cleric.  An occasional fighter.  Still some of the most fun I had playing games of any kind.
