New member introductions / A Pirate by any other name is still a Pirate...!
« on: September 24, 2009, 11:55:27 AM »
Some of you on ScriptUO know me, but sadly most of you don't!  I have been involved and playing Ultima Online way back since 1998 in the beta stages of the game.  At that time, I was working with a company called Blizzard trying to get the game WarCraft 3 and then Diablo onto the shelves. (But that is a different story -- I just mention that because I love both games Ultima Online and WoW for different reasons).  In the olden days, I would stay hidden at banks and look into people's backpacks for their ship and house keys and have my fill of Plunder and Loot.  It was so much fun to kill someone just to see what they were carrying at the time.  Ther was no house security, there was no item insurance, there wasn't even items marked "Blessed"!  Over the years, my characters have had to adapt to all of the rules' changes and political manuvers that OSI felt was necessary to keep the needs of the many happier than the needs of the few!  Ultima Online has made me 'Virtual Collector'.  I try and collect at least one of every rare, server birth item, or unique Event Item that exists in the game.  Unlike Second Life (another virtual game), I have tried over the years to form together an Empire of different types of Houses and Living Areas:  I currently have a Mining House, a Beach Hideaway, a fully operated and working Casino, 2 Museums, a Luna Vender House, a Ter Mur Vender House, a full Rune Library, and a very messy Keep used as Storage. -- Hmm, I would like to tell you more but the Post is not allowing me to continue and is stopping me from typing any further...    :'(

General UO Chat / UO Auto Map
« on: September 24, 2009, 11:30:24 AM »
Like most of you, I have been having withdrawls from not being able to use Easy UO (other than to load in multiple clients).  As I was reflecting on this, I also remembered another UO Program which was actually legal, that I miss and had a case of withdrawls when it was no longer being updated:  UO Auto Map, otherwise known as 'UOAM'.

This was a fantastic program!   You could keep track of where other characters were in the game, chat with them on another screen, mark your own personal points of interest, hit the Panic button so those characters could come and aid you.  It did all kinds of other things too!

http://uoam.net/  The home for UOAM is still there with a letter telling everyone that he is no longer going to update it and has abandoned the project.  WHY?  Also, why did he not pass it off to someone else?  Give out the source code?  And why did EA not include it in future releases and patches of the game???

General UO Chat / Puzzle Board
« on: September 14, 2009, 12:10:47 PM »
I wanted to share this with all of my Script UO Buddies:

How many of you have tried the Puzzle Room near the Underworld Entrance; the room just North of where you collect the Acid Sacs for the Quest to enter the Abyss?  The first room is easy (the first two puzzles are memorization and the third is somewhat like a game called MasterMind, but the second room, called the Experimental Room, keeps you on your toes as you have to run around to different colored rectangles like a chicken with his head cut off.  I call the Experimental Rooms 'Twister on Acid'!  I have tried the room 4 times now and can't finish the third room...! (ARGH!)

I have found an easier Puzzle Board room near the "Green Goblin" Lair.  There is a room before you get to the Puzzle Board Room that has a compass on the table.  The puzzle board is found in the Underworld at coordinates 52o 23'N 17o 47'W. You must navigate a perilous trapped hallway to reach the small room where a strongbox resides. Opening the strongbox will give you a board.

Solving the Puzzle will give you one of the following random rewards:
30 Void Essence
30 Silver Serpent Venom
30 Scouring Toxin
3.0 Scroll of Transcendence of random skill
Moulding Board
Dough Bowl
Horned Totem Pole
Large Square Pillow
Large Diamond Pillow
Dusty Pillow
Statue Pedestal

If you have trouble with the Puzzles, most of the solutions can be found at:

Rares Collecting / Stygian Abyss Stealables!
« on: September 14, 2009, 11:38:33 AM »
If any of you have thieves, then the Abyss is full of new stealables!  A lot of them look really cool and are geared more towards "House Deco".  What person playing UO would not like to have a pile of Treasure in their house? Or some alcohol, bottles of Liquor, dity dishes, and Spiderwebs?  Below is a URL which shows a screenshot of each of the new stealables.  From the surroundings, hopefully you can figure out where a particular stealable is located.  As each of us finds these new stealables, perhaps we can post where we found them?  (A friend of mine sent this to me since he knows I have two active thieves).

General UO Chat / PunkBuster?
« on: September 08, 2009, 12:26:49 PM »
OK -- what is the deal with this?  Are they really going to start this service up?  Frankly, I know that they will lose a lot of players in the game, as they will not want to play anymore.  Who wants to deal with mundane tasks such as Mining and Lumberjacking and get Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?  That's why scripts were written in the first place.

Here is what EA has to say about PunkBuster:

General UO Chat / Pet Venders
« on: September 08, 2009, 09:15:48 AM »
The other day I was thinking that it would be so cool if UO implemented a way to sell some of your Uber Tamed Pets on a Vender.  Players looking for that colored CU or the Ultimate PvP Dragon could go to selected areas and find the Pet of their "Dreams" or the one they could afford within their 'price range'.  They could perhaps somehow tie it into the amount of Stable Slots you have, as many players may try to abuse this by just having their Pets on Venders.  Perhaps give an extra 2 slots and the character would become a Tamer Vender?

Scripting Chat / Faction Animal Taming Changes
« on: August 26, 2009, 10:24:06 AM »
If you are in a Faction and tame an animal in Felucca, it will rename the animal with the tag of the Faction that you belong to.  For example "A Bull" when tamed becomes "A Bull" (CoM).  When current taming scripts currently go to rename it, it does so, but the (CoM) Faction Tag remains and the animal will not release.

You might want to take this into account on future Taming Scripts, updates and releases.

Just thought you would like to know.

General UO Chat / Golem Training Guide
« on: August 07, 2009, 11:58:54 AM »
Some of you have been having problems lately training skills with a Golem.  I am posting the training method I use with a Golem (Number 5 is the most important)!!!:

40-120 skill - Attack a pet Golem
This method is a little bit of a trick, but is 100% legal! You will NOT get in trouble for using this trick. You can see players using this virtually every day outside of Luna. This method of training requires a few setup procedures.

1.Acquire a 100% poison weapon in your melee skill, or a Use Best Weapon Skill one. Make sure that the weapon you get does not have any hit spell on it. If it does, it will make this method impossible.
2.Acquire a GM Tinker made Golem. Hopefully you have a friend who has GM tinkering, and they can make you one. If not, they shouldn't cost too much.
3.Once you have your Golem, have someone with 110 Animal Lore find out what its wrestling skill is. The value of this number is revealed in the next step.
4.Acquire a set of +20 (or greater) jewelry in your melee skill. Your goal with this is that when you put on the jewelry, your skill should be between 10 and 20 points lower than the Wrestling on the Golem at all times. This is to maximize gains. At 40-70 skill you will likely have to use jewelry to boost your fighting skill into the proper range.
5.Join a guild if you are not in one already. You can also start your own which is not very costly.
Now that you have completed those four tasks, here's what you do:

1.Grab your Golem and stand someplace. The popular place for this training is outside the Luna bank.
2.Equip your weapon and jewelry. Remember your skill should be no farther than 20 below the Golem's wrestling.
3.Say "all guard me". This will make your golem highlight green to you.
4.Say "all stop". This will make the golem stop guarding you, with new pet commands you say "all follow me" and golem never attacks you and will always follow you.
5.Use the Context Menu on the golem and select the "kill/attack" option and target yourself, then QUICKLY press your enter button.
If you do this right, the Golem should stop attacking you right away and you should start to gain. Please be aware, you may have to go through steps 3-5 several times before it works right. If you keep getting hit, just keep using the 'all stop' command.

As your skill increases you should remove the skill enhancement jewelry as needed. Eventually you will surpass the Golem's skill. This is okay because as long as you are 20 points below or above your opponents fighting skill, you can gain your own.

General UO Chat / Dragon Roadblock!
« on: July 27, 2009, 07:53:14 AM »
I was just wondering if any of you have experienced 'Dragon Roadblock' during any of the Shadowlords Spawns.  It seems it is getting worse and worse, especially when whole Guilds are messaging each other and telling others when the Shadowlords are about to manifest themselves.  The worst place is at the Volcano area where the path is very narrow and the players seem to walk in circles both clockwise and counter-clockwise around the Lava Pits in order to be able to spot the Shadowlords when they first appear and hope to be one of the top 3 to do damage.  Just moving around the spawn areas is a Nightmare, but at the Volcano you literally feel like a 'sardine' and you cannot move, so if the Shadowlord spawns somewhere other than the area you are standing in, then you are up the creek without a paddle!

50% of the time I am lucky and get a cloak and one time I got a mempo using my Archer Tamer with a CU...that way there is 2 things hitting him at once...!

New member introductions / Anniversary Date! (1 Year)!
« on: July 16, 2009, 03:40:38 PM »
In exactly four days from now I will have been registered on the ScriptUO Forums for One Year!  I think that is a nice thing to celebrate as many of my fellow UO players and friends are leaving UO and going someplace else.  Sticking with something more than 4 months these days is a definite rarity.  I have learned so much from ScriptUO.  I have been playing Ultima Online off and on since 1999 and I still do not know everything there is to know about the game.  One thing I have learned is that the people here stick together and help one another.  No one here wants to be spoon fed, but it is 'Sweet' to get an edge on other players.  When I first started playing UO, I had more time to devote to it, but now I have limited playing to a couple hours each day.  So that time is precious and I want to be able to take advantage of that -- the information here on ScriptUO definetly is well worth reading and participating in the forum threads!

General UO Chat / Bamboo Stools!
« on: June 03, 2009, 02:08:04 PM »
In addition to getting Academic Books in Bedlam, I now have a new obsession -- "BAMBOO STOOLS"!

I had not heard of these until I saw a guy spamming that he had 2 Bamboo Stools for Sale at Luna Bank.  Of course he would not tell me where he got them, but he did say that they were not easy to find.

Has anyone heard of these?  Do you know where they spawn?  Are they a stealable?  Where did they come from and why are they all of a sudden in the game?

--- I have questions and I need answers!   :P

General UO Chat / Taming and PvP...
« on: June 03, 2009, 10:07:20 AM »
Does anyone know or know where to find the minimum and/or oprimum skills for controlling a Pet for use at PvP.  I hear all kinds of different numbers thrown at me, but I want to know the definitive answer.  Is 108 Taming and 110 Lore good enough to control a Dread mare?  How about a Greater Dragon?  Does the Lore skill number need to be higher than the taming or can you control with 108 Taming and 100 Lore?

If you know the answer, please share it.  Has someone put together a chart for determining these numbers.  OSI has been so helpful giving us the answers in the past (ya right!)

Also, to keep this thread going, I want to know what is the best Pet to use for PvP and in what situations?  Is a Dread mare better than a Cu?  What about a Hiryu?  Greater Dragons are great, but probably only in group situations as they are so slow and cumbersome. So what Pet should I use for what?

Games & Game Systems / Electronic Entertainment Expo -- E3
« on: May 29, 2009, 09:26:48 AM »
I have the good fortune of attending the E3 Expo this year (as I have many times in the past).  The feeling of going to E3 is like a kid visiting a Candy Store for the first time.  You get to see all the new things, play with them, have the opportunity to win prizes, get free demos, t-shirts, hardware, OH MY!

Hopefully when I return from the 3 day expo, I will have some neat things to report and/or comment on.  I doubt that EA will show anything of Stygian Abyss there, but I am hoping!

Will anyone else be attending?  If so, perhaps we can meet up and compare notes.  This year I am going alone and I really hate going alone, because there is no one there to share your excitement with...!

General UO Chat / Pacific Shard Players
« on: May 08, 2009, 04:25:55 PM »
Does anyone else play on the 'Pacific' Shard other than me?  I am asking because I really would like to get together with like-minded people who play on the same shard that I do.  To be honest, most of the time I play or adventure alone and quite frankly it gets very boring.  Most of my friends who played UO with me when I started, have have left UO and have gone to play other games they thought would be much more interesting and entertaining...

TM, what do you think of having a couple of Forums just for players of certain shards....listing them individually would be too many, but what about West Coast, Mid-West or Central, East Coast, European, Asia-Pacific

General UO Chat / Small Pieces of Blackrock
« on: April 30, 2009, 11:17:49 AM »
For over a year now I have saved the 'small pieces of Blackrock' from many hours of Mining.  Now it looks like EA/OSI may have a use for it and/or gift the people who have been saving it...If you go onto the Test Center (TC1), you will see a Blackrock Detonator, right near the Moongate in Luna.  If you double-click it to activate it, it does something really interesting.  I won't tell you what it does, you will have to find out for yourselves.   :-X
